Why on earth were Spurs favourites for this game?

It's like no one knew what a good side Forest are and what an awful side Spurs are.

Reported!  Horrific After-timing.

Spurs have had enough chances to at least get a result from crosses alone. Forest not as impenetrable as normal. Didn't seem interested in getting more once they got the second. Hope Spurs nick a point. Like to see teams punished for that.

Just strip them of titles retrospectively if they've as alleged. Anything else is a slap on the wrist and sends a message that sportswashing works. You want to send the opposite message. The vast majority of fans globally will be delighted to see it, esp after UEFA did nothing.

Man City case wont be resolved for years if ever.

We all know exactly how this season will end for Ange

Make the Europa final, lose to Bilbao, sacked.

Levy yet again deflecting attention away from himself as if he's not the common denominator.

He sacked the man that beat him tonight, Nuno, who's flying, same as Conte, same as Jose.

When the Spuds have had Van De Ven fit, when all their best players have been fit, but Van De Ven in particular, they have looked a top 6 side, most of the season they haven't been.

It's also become very apparent to me that the media have a clear agenda against him and are trying to get him sacked, because he can be a bit pricky. That fat chump Alex Crook on talksport in particular never shuts about him.

Talksport one of the outlets who are CLEARLY cherry picking Anti Ange callers to come on and pile in.

I remember a few weeks when they lost to Chelsea away, every chance the spuds got, they tried to go forward and hit Chelsea on the break, yet callers where talking about his 'side ways' football? WTF?

There was no side ways football, he doesn't play sideways football, it's the opposite, probably to their detriment at times, makes you wonder if it's some numpty in the backrooms who's had the Ange treatment and they're all working together to get him out.

Kind Regards.

Also deduct specifically 25 points in 21/22 so they'd have finished 5th. That will taint their CL win as well. The rep of the PL as best league in the world and bastion of fairplay would be cemented and UEFA would look like complete mugs with their toothless rules which don't punish top teams (for fear of the Super League breakaway).
By:

When: 21 Apr 25 22:41
Forest invite you on to hit you on the break, they want you to push up and play a high line and hit you with a fast counter. That's not where their goals came from tonight really. They have one of the lowest possession stats in the league. It's their game plan. Spurs were poor for the goals and that was fatal but they created enough chances to win the game from crosses with a 2nd choice frontline. That was impressive and normally meat and drink to the Forest defence.

Not too bad a performance and the players weren't not playing for the manager. Talksport's business model is to start with a ridiculous, controversial take to generate engagement, same with most of the smarter people on social media who are looking to money from engagement. It's the low IQ mugs who take it all for real and engage.

Taking titles off City and awarding them to other teams is the worst idea IMO

I watch this stuff to see who wins. If the results can be altered years later then why am I watching at all.

Serie A has never recovered from voiding those Juve titles 20 years ago. People figured they'd wasted their time watching those seasons and didn't bother watching any further.
By:
lurka
When: 21 Apr 25 22:51
There have been studies which show that if you say something on social media which is correct or with which most people agree, people won't respond to you and tell you 'i agree'. But if you do the opposite, you will get a plethora of replies and generate far more engagement which gains followers and money ultimately. More than half of the big accounts on SM do this, they don't actually believe what they say.

Nobody said award titles to other clubs. Just say they are stripped with no winner. Proper fans of pool and arsenal won't see them as titles, they'll see them as titles they were cheated out of celebrating by City and Pep. Everything enjoyable about winning a title is not there. It's just a stat.

Oh no Lurks, you didnt.
Not again.

Lord spare the world from the rantings of deluded Liv & Arsnl fans about Man City.

For the record Liverpools dominance in the 80s was because their owners were Littlewoods Pools. i.e. They were funded by the latter day version of the National Lottery.

And how the Gooners can have the brass neck to moan about Chelsea & City over the past years is nothing short of ridiculous.
Arsnl of course bought their way into the top division after the 1st World War and then went about denuding every half decent team in the North of England to buy their way to the title in the 30s.

This is NOT organic growth. It is throwing money at success.

Every one and his dog, barring Arsnl and Liv fans, know that the upshot of all these daft FA charges is that City will get off scot free. Maybe they will have to rinse Richard Masters throught the legal system, yet again. But there is not a parallel universe where City get relegated or lose their titles.

And the rest

nearly all of the top 10 in that 7 year period when Lance won the Tour De France, were either caught doping or suspected, think something like nearly 50 were confirmed out of the 70.

It's the same as Athletics, once caught after, being given Gold must mean nothing to the next clean athlete, he or she were robbed of the winning moment.

Like Darren Campbell losing out to that Greek mug in the  200m final in Sydney 2000, the winner was banned 4 years later for faking a motorbike accident to avoid a drugs test, must have been taking some s*** drugs though he couldn't even break 20 seconds even when on the gear in that final.

I wouldn't actually like to see City stripped of their titles because it would seriously damage the league as you'd be re-shaping history, they just need to be demoted or forced to start the next few season with big handicaps. Agree that Serie A took a bit hit when they went down that road.

Wimbledon has a black hole in it's history now as well, with no 2020 champions thanks to Covid, there's no doubt they'd have tried to have staged it at some point but because they were amazingly insured for this type of thing and didn't stand to lose out financially, they didn't bother.

Kind Regards.

Past titles have been celebrated, and locked away.

If caught cheating then there should be a punishment but as with
previous cases there is only a made up punishment and not a definite
list.

Forest, oddly, are benefiting from breaking rules and taking small
hit, and any team coming up next season may need to do the same
to survive.

If you have to cheat to prosper the rules are wrong...

There is a fundamental difference between bankrolling a team when there are no rules against it and when there are. I never said a word about Chelsea's titles.

There is a fundamental difference between a guy pumping money into a club when there are no rules against it and a petrostate pumping money into a club when there are.

There is also a fundamental difference in terms of magnitude and longevity of spending when it's a petrostate with essentially unlimited funds, obviously flouting the rules and cooking the books.

It's quite clear in City's case, whatever the outcome, that there has been complete contempt for the rules from day one. You are talking about people who write rules for others in their own state that they own all the resources of. Compliance with rules is foreign to them. They have never had to comply with a rule in their lives.

The cheat cyclists who came second still missed out on all the glory and sponsorship etc rewards, not that they've been hard done by imo as they were all cheats then. They prob see it as fair play to Lance, he was the best at it, hats off to him, but they wouldn't see it as a victory retrospectively years later either.

How many teams have missed out on CL football because of City over the years? Every dog in the street knows that they should never had been near top 4 even once. They could have been a well run club financially and done it a couple of times, spending within the rules and getting it right. But they didn't want to do it that way and didn't do it that way and therefore the whole lot of it is asterisked, regardless of the outcome of the case.

If Liverpool spent beyond their means in the 80's, other clubs spent more than them quite often. But the most imorotant point is that there were no rules against it and it wasn't buying the league or anything close to that and other clubs were doing the same. Not comparable.
By:

When: 22 Apr 25 00:17
Since FFP every top club has operated within the rules and then you have one club who never has and another club who elevated themselves to a perennial CL club most of the time before the rules came in and prob didn't comply most of the time after that under a prev owner. Now the new owner has just sold his women's team to another of his vehicles for £200m!! It'll be another trick next year.

Everton/Forest have been non-compliant for different reasons, survival basically, which isn't right either. But you have 2 clubs pulling intelligence insulting strokes every year. City having higher commercial revenues than Real Madrid etc. How is it proper competition when everyone else plays fair and they don't?

City and Chelsea were poorly run for decades. City were 3rd tier on their own means, Chelsea was sold for £1 because of it's debt. United Pool Arsenal were always well run for decades, that's why they're 'big', despite long barren periods with little success. Decades of sustainable operation with ups and downs made these clubs big.

The fairytale story of the Munich disaster and EC win 10 years later made United the biggest club in the world financially/globally, long before money came into the game. They tapped into that for decades despite not winning anything of note for 25 years after and were still light years ahead of everyone else in England at it for 20 years after they first won under Fergie. Nothing wrong with that and fair play to them. Could/should have sent them under.

The finianicial fair play rules seem crazy.

Sell an academy player, then allowed 4 times the fee to be spent on transfers.

Mctomminey sold for 25 mill,to buy onana.

It’s creating the complete opposite effect ,that it’s been set up to solve.

Clubs pushing to give home grown players debuts,so they can sell them and buy foreign players at 4 times the cost.

Imagine if you had the greatest academy, with 1000 players in it.so the club never ever needed to buy a player, because the talent pool was so vast ,you had a player available.

That effectively means ,20 scouts,100 agents,5 sporting directors were all pointless,

Allthough this might make great business sense and lead to the teams long term success.youd be seen as a phariah within the game.

The transfer churn,is the oil that fuels the game, keeps everyone paid and being seen to be essential.

11 home grown players and a manager winning the league, means only 12 people make money,

Within a few years, the top 6 will be filled with players all all came from acamdemies, but not the clubs academies they played for.

The premier league have rules forcing clubs to spend x amount on academies.so we have the best conveyor belt of talent of any country in the world.

But then clubs decide to buy players who were in African,South American kids teams,

Cole palmer, played for England from being 15, years at city academy, was seen as too slight to progress,he was 6 ft 1 tall.he scored a hat trick on his debut for city,so 10 years coaching him, makes first team, scores hat trick..

Hey ,let’s sell him.we d 40 million,

Which means we can spend 160 million.

The agents and sporting directors must of pushed hard to get that sale over the line.

They d get nothing he he stayed at city,

Why does it happen, why does no one stop it.

Because who would speak up,you’d just nod along and collect your cut.youd be mad to rock the boat.

We should just streamline all this.

Call man united acdemy liverpools academy, city’s ,Everton’s and so on.then just keep the players you’ve got registered to the paired up club.
Dish out 50 million a year to sporting directors and agents.but at least then the players can just stay put, just change the jersey.

Explosion of tv,media around the world, colour tv

I used to go home, away.every game late 80s,90s.
There was basically 3 fan bases.

Manchester, more post codes with a Manchester address than city,so a myth fans don’t come from Manchester.
London,,cockney reds, equal in numbers to every London team.
Rest of country, again enough fans to fill a stadium.yorkshire reds,Cornwall reds etc etc..

Then there’s the Irish.

Then there’s the scandivian.

I know a guy who has 50 season tickets.he has made a living from selling weekend breaks with match ticket to every home game,to Oslo reds,Denmark,Sweden,he sells them at the branch in each city.flight, hotel, match ticket.
There’s a never ending supply.

A lot of the main guys in each town, city .used to come united games,
Been at Cheltenham races in the town,a notorious lad with his mates all came to united games, that 1 town, literally same in most towns across the country.

Easily 5 million united fans in England, and that’s being conservative.

Less now,but they are there.

Latarps, you and many of your fellow spuds have been incredibly bitter about Arsenal being promoted by hand 106 years ago after World War 1, whilst Arsenal were democratically elected back to the top flight and by some distance, 18 votes to your 8, it was never proven that there was any wrong doing. The argument put forward was that Arsenal as first ever southern league club had a long service to football and deserved to be included.

However, neither Arsenal or Tottenham had any real claim to take that final spot in 1919/20 after WW1 after the expansion of the top league, we had finished 5th in the second tier, you had finished rock bottom in the top tier, so it's laughable spuds make bitter points about this as if we robbed you of a place, you had no business even lobbying to remain in the first place and neither did we have to be included, it should have gone to Barnsley who finished 3rd in the 2nd tier before the war, and the next team in line for automatic promotion, along with Preston and Derby, it's Barnsley who should feel bitter and them who were robbed. Chelsea had a claim to remain in the top tier after finishing 2nd bottom in 1915 because United had fixed a game against them.

If Sir Henry Norris was up to no good, he had some amazing contacts to get 18 different clubs to vote for us and one way or another, it's not you who feels hard done by, it's the Tykes.

Arsenal also didn't do anything that was against the rules in the 30's, they simply identified the best players and got them.

And this whole 'moving onto your turf' thing, when Arsenal moved to North London in 1913 it was because we had no choice, we were in Plumstead, there was fk all there, transport links were poor, still is relatively speaking, ground ran along an open sewer and so as you can imagine, crowds werent the best. We were even close to merging with Fulham and could have ended up there, think our owner owned them as well, how times have changed.

Yet even when we moved to Highbury, which is North London, we didn't actually encroach on your territory, that's because you weren't even in LondonLaugh you were a Middlesex club, you was not even absorbed into the Greater London area until 52 years later - we were a London club before you were, we were always a London club regardless of which side of the river we were born on. Moving less than 10 miles within the same city is hardly a big deal, not like it's Wimbledon taking themselves out of London plonking themselves in Milton Keynes for no apparent reason is it.

And whilst I'm on a history tour, did you know the reason why we play in Red is because of Nottingham Forest, we signed a couple of their players from Forest and they brought there own, they then called a favour and brought more down as we were brassic, and Sparta Prague play in Red in turn because of us after their president saw us play in London in 1906, the white sleeves came along thanks to Champan who apparently saw someone at the training ground wearing a red sleeveless sweater over a white shirt. And as for the Spuds the current white shirts apparently were a homage to Preston who dominated at over 100  years ago, but you started with a Navy Blue shirt emblazoned with a RED H, then for a six year period between 1890-96 your entire shirt was RED.

Bet you didn't know that. You've learned a few things tonight.

Kind Regards.

Yes I am quit aware of your arguments, you have made them before.

And if you are happy making allegations about Man City after the somewhat questionable origins of the club you support, then that is your right.
Personally I would not want to enter into such an area but as long as you are happy.

All of which does not change the fact that these 115 charges are going nowhere.
City have already blown the EPL governance rules into the water by pointing out that a lot of their EPL rivals have managed to survive thru 3rd party loans from related investors. One of whom is of course the Ersenal.

THFC have not exactly covered ourselves in glory in this matter but at least our supporters are not looking to blame City for our woes. We seem to prefer a more internecine form of delusion!

The promotion after the war decades after the formation of the club which was organidc, 16 factory workers put their own money in to get it started. You're coming at it from a biased point of view being a spud so I do take anything you say with a pinch of salt, but I'll humour you anyway.

Man City have been cooking the books, that is a fact, UEFA and the FA have caught them red handed, they managed to time out UEFA and are looking to use every legal trick in the book to get around the current charges with the Premier League. Arsenal haven't broken the same rules, if we had, we'd also be up on charges, so anyone that's missed out on trophies because of the cheats, can feel hard done by.

Very simple stuff, nothing to do with having class or not, it's stating the already known facts.

MES,

The point about the origin of Arsenal as a football club is that you managed to get your way into the top division thru some nefarious backroom dealing. Wether there were financial inducements involved. Or not as the case may be.
You yourself have admitted it was less than wholesome... "neither Arsenal or Tottenham had any real claim to take that final spot".

You seem to want to make this into some kind of North London thing. I couldnt care less. The point I am trying to make is that people who live in glass houses....etc.

As for City, the point is that they are going to beat the EPL rap whatever gets decided.
As Martin Samuel wrote in the Times when you are draughting legal regulations  you have to make sure they are water tight.
The FA had no such laws when City got taken over by Abu Dhabi, just a blanket acceptance of UEFAs guidelines.

The basis of these 115 charges go way back over a decade when Etihad sponsored the stadium. UEFA said it was not market value and issued a fine. End Of.
Only there has been the political will amongst certain parties (And I have no doubt that us 'bitter Spuds' are among them) to revisit this issue, but like I said its dead in the water.
There is some other nonsense about non-compliance and overpaying Bobby Mancini but these are never going to amount to a points deduction.

To summarise..
Richard Masters is trying to find City guilty
1 Of a crime they have already been convicted.
2 Thru a set of ad hoc, spur of the moment, regulations concocted in a seemingly vengeful manner aimed at penalising Manchester City.
3 Whilst allowing the other members of the EPL to circumvent Financial regulations thru 3rd party loans.

Come on, do you really think the EPL are going to win this? With City's army of lawyers? They have already taken UEFA to the cleaners when they tried to go after City again.

Mes you seem like a nice guy. You make some intelligent posts even if you do seem to see the world through red and white tinted glasses.
But this City-baiting is for the birds.
Especially now as the Guardiola revolution appears to be in its death throes.

I should imagine the outcome of this case will be made sometime in the future next season. With Ars/Liv/Newcastle whomever involved in a title race with City scrapping for at best a European place in Pep's last season.
It will be a fine, it will be paltry and no one will care.

Far be it for me to get into the love-in between you two atm.

But to compare Arsenal's clever negotiations to get promoted to Man City's 115 charges of not accurately reporting financial information as required by PL rules is plain wrong there is no sensible comparison.

In 1919 the league was being expanded and election to first division was subject to voting and Arsenal out manoeuvred the other teams around them, that all, well done Norris.

Man city are facing charges relating to every season between 2009-10 and 2022-23, which undoubtably affected many teams and Man City have never co-operated unlike other teams who have fallen foul and taken their punishment.

And as City's owners have absolute power in Abu Dhabi we will never know if any financial shenanigans went on there. Think signing on bonuses paid for in penthouses. Gold bars waiting in hotel rooms.
By:

When: 22 Apr 25 14:34
There were no EPL rules regarding financial fair play until 2016.
Given that City got fined by UEFA in 2014 for naming the Etihad stadium then anything relating to that will be seen as retrospective legislation. I doubt there is a court in the land that will let that fly.
The Etihad naming rights is the biggest charge. It is what facilitated City's spending.

As I understand the situation, the majority of the 115 charges are accountancy based. The allegations of false accounting by acknowledged Chartered Accountants, well that is a stretch. We all know the reputations of these people but the ramifications for the industry will be widespread, as per Stefan Borson on Talksport. I can not imagine this EPL crusade for financial governance will succeed. Not in a thousand years.

The argument is that what Arsenal did 100 years ago and what City did a decade ago are pretty much one and the same.
Ambitious owners spent money to achieve success.

Maybe back in the day the Football League saw London as the next big market to conquer. Along came the Arsenal with some plans and the EFL of the day went along with it. Might have taken a few pieces of silver to grease some palms, but hey those bridges have been burnt.

What is objectionable is that supporters of certain clubs are trying to pull up the drawbridge. Introducing legislation so that others can not spend the same amount of money.

As Simon Jordan has said... Why, when you have the most successful football league in the world, would you want to mess that up with all this FFP nonsense?
