Stretford End is still largely legit, the other stands a right mix tbh..
By:
Proper fans yeah, usually don't, but some get led there.
There were plenty of folk suggested rashford would cop the flak, and sadly they were right. Sadly that puts off others doing the great work rashford did But that's what the gutter press want, they don't care who gets hurt along the road. |
By:
I don't disagree but the co-incidence that followed with poor form, poor attitude, poor work rate also allows this narrative to exist that fans are turning on him for stuff other than football..
By:
All players have dips in form, even after the brilliant season
Rashford had, but they can recover the form with support and coaching and an arm around the shoulder at times. Rejection can simply exagerate the decline. |
By:
Indeed but all that most were wanting was to see him put in a shift..I just keep coming back to that because it's the truth..
Utd were really struggling and he was jogging around like it was the warm up or indeed just waiting and watching (a la Messi, etc) and fairly clear that wasn't the ask of the manager....both he and Garnacho got an early warning for attitude..one of them responded in training so got a lot of minutes (despite later fallouts) the other didn't..and so was sacked off..pretty sure Amorim would have loved a motivated, responsive, Marcus....he didn't have a lot else.. |
By:
He (amorin) didn't really try to get one, did he? and villa benefited.
Playing the tough guy might work, but it's had its day for me. Managers need to know their players and what makes them tick. Giving up on your best players is something of a flag over manager for me. |
By:
well quite possibly regarding man management techniques...though going back to an earlier point - when it's going well the whole dynamic and power base is different..
he asked for a positive reaction from a senior player who claimed the club was in his heart and got a poor response (presumably).. so far as a manager he's shown nothing (very difficult takeover mid season) so he'll need to prove himself pretty rapidly, though on departures only Garnacho would worry me for the longer term and of they get anywhere around 40-45m that would be ok (less if they have significant sell on) |
By:
Aye big season ahead.
Get back into battles at top of table, and win them. Could be an epic season in EPL the more competing at the top the better. |
By:
yep - bad times as it for Utd seeing the EPL so competitive is definitely good and should be celebrated..no leagues like it frankly..
By:
Naive to imagine the club don't have full psychological reports on each player and that the handling of each player is not thoroughly discussed between the coaches.
Rashford's lack of tracking back and giving up when out of possession went on for months before Amorin dropped the axe. |
By:
Rashford played 6 games for amorin.

DID YOU KNOW?
Even though his attitude has been questioned, the stats this season reveal that Rashford is running more than usual, an average of 10.2km per game compared to 9.97km last season and 9.57km in 2022-23, per Opta. Sprints per 90 minutes are also up, now exceeding an average of 21 per game. Jan 25 article. Goal. Com |

By:
what is the league average for a LW in a 4-3-3 as that's what he was typically playing ?
Almost certainly when UTD finished third they'd have controlled more games that in itself leads to less running as you have the opposition pinned at times..I doubt typically Grealish as an example would have spent more than a few mins in his own half when they won the title the previous season...so probably didn't hit big numbers on running as a result... |
By:
he also did a stint at CF in one of those seasons so had less defensive responsibility than when playing wide..

The gap between the distance with the ball and without varies strongly according to the position played on the pitch. With a difference of about 550 metres per match, centre backs run logically more when the opposing team is in possession. Although the difference is reduced, midfielders (376 m) and full backs (341 m) follow the same logic. For wingers, this gap is much less, while it is actually slightly positive for centre forwards.
In taking into account the distances covered in high intensity, the difference between having or not having possession becomes slight (76 m), but the variations between positions increase. With possession, wingers cover four times more distance in high intensity than centre backs and 1.7 times more than midfielders. Conversely, in phases of the game where the team does not have the ball, these efforts are much more evenly distributed, with a maximum distance for full backs. By:
So more work for wingers in possession not less.
By:
not entirely sure what tells me tbh..
By:
I don't think you'd need much of a watch to know PSG wingers work a lot harder than most (current side)..whether it's distanced covered or not..
By:
Yeah maybe the case but doesn't alter rashford upping his effort
and being highlighted as lazy, and fans jumping on comment rather than stats. |
By:
It's optical though isn't it ?? ..
I mean in terms of the stats (football observs') they may well be true but they are so broad brush, how one could usefully use those for a single player I'm not sure and was it true of Marcus ?? - did he on average adhere to those clear trends?? ..though fair play on them - I find them slightly surprising .. I'll give you an example ...Hojlund sprints to close people down when Utd are trying to press..Rashford doesn't in the same role..guess who gets some stick.. Garnacho/Amad/Anthony all track back in a reasonably committed fashion when teams counter...Marcus doesn't usually..guess who gets some stick.. |
By:
Ah, I read that Newcastle might be interested in Rashford.... that explains a lot.
By:
Well optical yeah, but the biggest change apart from his increased running
and increased sprinting was his lack of goals, which doubtless, in part, is teams cutting down his supply and being able to physically impose on him as EPL got more physical. But he's picked out for being lazy as we are told so. But not when he ran less and scored more goals. |
By:
Now that we have establised that contrary to popular belief, Rashford is in fact a hard working player I think that he would be a good fit for a side like Newcastle, he could replace Isak when he moves to a bigger club.

By:
One of Rashford's main problems is he won't play any other position than left wing
![]() |
By:
We ain't established that, we have established that he increased his work rate whilst being branded lazy. Having not been branded lazy at lower work rate until he annoyed
the gutter press by campaigning to feed kids from hard up families. He'd fit in well at Newcastle and thrive on the love he would get but until Liverpool pay 100 mill for Gordon and Barnes is swapped for elanga.... he'd then compete with grealish for left side spot if pep loans him to us and pays 75% of wages and man utd pay 75% of rashford wages.... Never say never ![]() |

duffy, you are a silent assassin with a rapier/stiletto. lol.

pool aint going in for gordon

Yeah, and that's just the first thing stopping rashford to newcastle

izak defo on the cards

LOL, PIF aren't usually in the business of selling assets
By:
money talks
By:
Indeed it does.
FSG is worth aroundd $13 billion while PIF is worth around a trillion USD. About 80 times the size of FSG |
By:
PIF might be but in terms of PSR, PIF is not Newcastle, in terms of PSR, Liverpool are the Goliath and Newcastle are the minnow.
The one thing they can do to keep him there is pay him,in their favour is that there are very few clubs that could pay the fee needed to get him but you would think that one way or another one of the biggies would find a way. Eventually they will have to sell him and use that money to try and build from, they will probably have to do a Ronaldo/United deal where they ask him to give them one more year in the CL and go next year. |
By:
Pif been winding them up trying to buy Salah, they know the game...
By:
PIF have the advantage of total secrecy in Saudi. They can pay players anything they want off the books and no one will ever find out.
Ditto City in Abu Dhabi |
By:
Just as long as the emails don't get hacked.
By:
I expect PIF are not the only owners who now do deals with good old fashioned handshakes

England international Marcus Rashford faces returning to Manchester United for pre-season training as Aston Villa, where the forward was on loan during the second half of last season, will not be taking up the option to sign the 27-year-old for £40m. (Mirror)
By:
That was obvious from day one. He was being paid almost 1.5 times Villa's top earners and another 100k a week by United. He wasn't worth what Villa were paying him and it would have instantly lead to 3 or 4 Villa players looking for an extra 50k a week, which they can't afford. Also trousered 1m in wages from Villa while crocked at the end of the season.
