We wasted 2 friendlies and expected players to blend
in training. No reason a midfield of rice, Mainoo, Foden, and Bellingham should not work, but, they need somebody on left to balance saka. Bellingham got his turn in the final but maybe its not his best position. Meanwhile... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw0y92zr77do .. |

spain wernt considered a danger to ENG in this comp 5 weeks ago, germany on the up
on the last 4 weeks performances you wouldnt make ENG anymore than 5th,6,7th fav to win euros, add in south america etc and under southgate you could see 10 + teams who,d fancy beating ENG in next world cup and if we ever get on the wrong side of a world cup draw or draw within the tourney ,you must think an earlier exit is as likely as making semi or final |

13/2 joints, eng and spain
Brazil, France slightly bigger, argies 9/1 Germany 11/1 Funny old world. |

Rumour has it the some of the England players were not too happy with the England setup. Any truth in that?
|

I wouldn't have made England one of the favs based on their performances in previous tournaments. There was absolutely nothing to indicate that they would beat France, Spain or Germany this time. Ultimately, with a better squad they played even worse than in previous tournaments and should have been KO'd before the semis.
It will be the same at the WC assuming Southgate is still in charge for that. |

England were amongst the fav in this 2024 Euro because of their friendly draws. I do not think England would have beaten Germany or France except possibly penalties. Same sh1t for 8 years has been painful and demoralising.
It's all academic now. Out with the old, in with the new, I see. The same sh1t for 8 years has been painful, demoralising and embarrassing. Even the Irish and Scottish have been taking the mickey out of England. |

I wonder will the genius coaches in the PL realise, after seeing what most coaches did v England, ie don't press Rice with the ball as he'll likelyplay it sideways, do likewise?
|
|
By:
Lol none of the English players apart from Pickford play anything like they do for their club. That's why looking at England's squad on paper is foolish. Look at what they do in an England shirt.
Rice plays the ball forward all the time for Arsenal and got more goals and assists last season than he ever did at West Ham, where his role was similar to his role for England. |

Keep watching lads? If he stays goal side of Yamal the goal doesn't happen. There was no need for him to step up, the ball was with Carvajal who is not a dangerous player going forward. Bellingham and Rice were in position to get back if he stays goal side of Yamal, which he did very well the entire first half.
If he has no midfield cover inside from Rice then all the more reason to stay goal side until Rice gets back into position. Guehi should have been round on the cover earlier ..he's marking nothing but 15 yards of space...when Shaw goes across any decent back 4 plays like they have string attached and compensate over..Bellingham shouldn't have allowed Carvajal to run off him so easily originally and Rice is too high leaving massive spaces for Spain to use. |

Mr Southgate: "Some of his players were a little short of their physical peak during the month-long tournament".
But, Newcastle defender Trippier, who started six of the seven games, said that was not an excuse. Trippier said: "The team that we've got is fit. If you see the running stats, I think we're probably the highest in the whole tournament. So that's not an excuse." A categorical rebut of Mr Southgate! Is Mr Southgate playing the blame game for his own inadequacies as a football manager at International level? Yet, Mr Southgate played Shaw who'd not had a game for several months. |

southgate,s no fool no,s how to play the system had gibbo over a barrel at boro ,got more £ as boro manager than as a player at a time when experienced managers wernt raking it in ,in comparison to the players,
so at £5million a yr and he stays for another 4 yrs we,re never likely to no if a different manager could have got more out of these players, THINK HE STAYS |

Spain had 4 attackers forward and England had 4 defenders back, yet Spain had an overload at the far post. Shaw was goal side of the danger man Yamal, who wants to come inside all the time, the entire first half and won every duel.
If Shaw is goal side, they don't have the overload at the back post. If Guehi comes across they still do. Yamal is Shaw's man, Carvajal, who wasn't in a dangerous position and isn't a threat, is not and Bellingham is close enough to cover him. Shaw should have also taken Yamal down and taken a booking once Yamal turned inside Guehi. He had the chance and failed to spot the danger twice. |

Fair play to him. It was the right decision but I think he can walk away with his head held high. He did a great job.
We do need fresh leadership and the ruffling of some feathers. Nobody should be an automatic pick and it will need a big ego to find the correct fusion of many wonderful mainly young players. People seem to forget Tournament Football is not an exact science. It is not his fault other teams messed up and the draw opened up for Engerland. We might have an even better team next time with all our ducks in a row and get knocked out by a France, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Uruguay or even………… an Iceland in the last 16 in Amrika. We do have some very good players. I doubt Klopp will want it and I don’t know who else is good enough or available. I am a big supporter of the idea that the U19 coach should transition into the job like Southgate. He will have seen the young talent available first hand and they would have confidence in him. Allegedly the FA have a succession plan. I am not averse to Lee Carsley taking over. |

They are bound to want to play in their best position.
Why stick a central midfield box crasher on left wing if you have Grealish and Gordon? New manager has same problem with Foden and bellingham so solving that should be central plank of interview process. |
|
By:
Foden Bellingham
Gerrard / Lampard / Scholes I want both but not at the cost of balance. Not sure how to solve this. Gordon deserves a chance too! |
|
By:
Well Gordon, or Grealish, on left, instantly restores balance.
Spain two goals from left wing, whilst also having a right winger on pitch. Almost schoolboy level coaching stuff.... |
|
By:
I was also seriously concerned how little ball we got Saka. Needs to be sorted by the new man...... or woman
! |
|
By:
Well if you narrow the pitch you make it easier for them to defend against you.
