I think Spain will win this and England's best chance is penalties, I don't remember the last time we played them in a tournament, maybe Euro 96, Nadal's uncle missed a pen that day.

First final abroad as well, at least Gareth has left his mark on England whatever people say.

Come on England Cool

my memory is that spain had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside in that game.

southgate planning for a penalty shoot out seems about right Sad

Spain were best team in world for much of that time

Maybe they are again.

We have good players, and they looked up for it from the start v Holland.

Need that again.

WC in 82 ... Brooking and Keegan came on late and Keegan missed a header. 0-0

I think we needed to win by 2 clear goals in second little group stage

From what I recall they had 2 legit goals disallowed! - even worse for them than i remembered.

maybe lucky southgate can beat that and benefit from three disallowed goals.

apart from having the silliest haircut in the competition.....cucurella will know how good palmer is and will be passing that on so if palmer starts will have a special marker...probably 2 to stifle his game but that could provide other openings with the correct team selection.......lets just hope its not a repeat of the italy game...

The euphoria is great and all but the reality is that England has beaten 6 teams in which they were favourites to win.

But now they're 3.6 to beat Spain.

Can only give him any credit if he wins the tournament, watching the way Spain pass and move the ball, I struggle to see England coping with it given how poor we are at pressing, he should start Shaw but will probably start Trippier on the left which is like playing with 10 men, same as it was with Foden on the left. Trippier can't can't cross, pass or shoot with his left and at one point couldn't beat a man and pass the ball all the way back to Pickford.

However, Spain were hanging on in the end against France who were better than them in the second half, and France have been as average as England have. Only way England wins is to go for it and not sit back waiting to go behind, Safegate has never really been a frontfoot sort of manager, the only hope is he shocks us by betting brave and gets at them from the off.

Kind Regards.

I'd have thought Shaw might get the start now..

played about 40-45 mins against Switzerland with ET , and a full half last night...would feel ready to start even if you only get 65-70 mins..

Against yamal...and Williams on the other side...!

Easy to drop back into a back 5 against them, which
would be against our best chances, surely can't play
Saka against Williams so Trippier may end up on right
?
By:
brentford
When: 11 Jul 24 12:38
certainly possible but if you're actually bold - neither of those (Yamal. Williams) are at their best putting in a shift the other way..

Deffo. And Trippier tends to hold higher position
than Shaw or walker... Not as high as saka, obviously.

Could go to back 4 even, with Gallagher coming
in as extra midfielder.

Southgate might stick though!

I like Bobby a lot

but 84 did not qualify
86 - lost to a very average Portugal, drew 0-0 with Morocco
88 - lost to Ireland, Netherlands and USSR
90 drew with Ireland scraped past Egypt..struggled past an average Belgium and Cameroon

wasn't all beer and skittles to say the least..

shitgate got a much better product and still is fickng it up and has more luck than the winner of the lottery

when he jacks it in he will not get a top job in football as everyone knows the **** manager that he is

plenty of top class players in those England sides and often chose not to play Hoddle...
