Slovenia didn’t lose at the tournament

If you hit pens there you have 50% chance of scoring at best.
I might need to re-watch but live they all looked decent pens full stretch saves to me..nice height but not mug pens by any stretch... |
|
By:
First pen was decent and great save
2 and 3 were average at best |
|
By:
3 Great saves for me

They was telegraphed by the taker. U could see where the 2nd and 3rd was going by body shape
|

always go high or low and preferably some disguise..but giving a lot of credit to keeper personally...
|
|
By:
Keeper is diving left or right
They are hit exactly where he is diving if he goes to his right so he's 50/50 to save at random, and if he reads it he has greater chance to save. |

Bad luck Slovenia, but on reflection, who wants to see another potential 0-0?

Exactly. At least Portugal had a go and actually tried some attacking football. Slovenia are like England. Boring talentless players hyped by the media. |

By:
thank god park the buses are out, FFS what a awful match
![]() ![]() france Portugal will be decent hopefully |
|
By:
tbf I could absolutely see France v Portugal being 0-0

For a team who played for pens, they didn't seem to practice them at all.
|
|
By:
for a population of their size they've performed miracles...just as their Ice Hockey team at times..
|
|
By:
Yep, 0-0 is definitely on the table, but with Slovenia, they'd be playing for it
|
|
By:
So every expected team has made QF
Think tomorrow we get a shock! Romania to beat the Dutch |
|

Italy were faves against the Swiss

So England drew with Denmark and everyone hammered England - Denmark narrowly lost to Germany in a fairly even game, soft pen given.
England drew with Slovenia who drew with Portugal after 120 minutes and scrapped through on penalties. Maybe England are not as s*** as everyone thinks, international football teams are a lot closer than they used to be in tournaments, they were two good sides well organised and coached whilst being hard to break down, as Germany and Portugal have found out. Swiss be much the same as they proved against Germany and Italy (ignoring Scotland game where for some reason they just wanted a draw to get through). Put's England matches under a different light. Will be another narrow win or loss against the Swiss who are yet another solid defensive team that England will struggle to get much from. Kind Regards. |

Swiss have been very positive to this point..made the play for most of the 1st half vs Italy and Hungary..Scotland was a strang effort and against the hosts with a relatively early lead set the tone..
not going to try and guess their approach against us - may well suit us if they remain that way but they and Austria both looked better than advertised to this point.. |
|
By:
Who has criticised England for their results? Stop gaslighting us into suggesting England have played well. We have eyes. It doesn't put England's matches under a different light.
|
|
By:
Who said England has played well ? nobody said that on this thread. What was said, it you re-read, is that England are not as s*** as everyone has said, there is a a difference. And it does put England under a different light, it shows that the teams England have played are all hard to beat regardles of tactics deployed, as Portugal found out against Slovenia and Germany found out against Denmark. Even Slovakia who England scrapped past, they beat Belgium, France scrapped past Belgium.
England in general have been bad, but they're not as bas as been made out. |
|
By:
Half agree with mesmerized. England in general have been bad, but they're not as bad as some of the other so called top teams. However, apart from Bellingham I'm not sure which of our players would get into a world XI on past or current form.

Unless you are counting Croatia, Italy and perhaps Holland as top teams, England have been worse. None of them were fancied beforehand tho.
The top sides were considered to be England and the QF teams left in the top half of the draw before the start. England scored a lucky goal and then immediately sat back against Denmark and were outplayed for the remainder. That's why they were hammered. A draw was a good result as it maintained their 2 point lead at the top of the group, Slov and Serbia having drawn 1-1 earlier. They play at a pedestrian pace and have a massive imbalance on one side of the pitch which makes them fundamentally different, in a bad way, to all the other top sides. In their own half of the draw, the Swiss and Austria have been better and have played against better sides than England have played. |

I think the Dutch have played quite well other than the first half hour against Austria. Certainly a lot better than Italy or Belgium. They performed much better than Belgium against France. They came back and won against Poland. And they came back twice against Austria. Note to Southgate .... Koeman made the early substitution against Austria when it wasn't working. I certainly see them as favourites should they meet Austria again
