I think it was a red card because the fact that Jones's foot rolled over the ball tells you that his point of contact with the ball was at least above the half way point of the ball meaning it was too high and obviously could and did mean his foot rolled over making it dangerous, unintentional but it a Red.

Agree it was a harsh red card, also agree the Diaz goal looked onside too. These offsides usually take them minutes to sort out, this was done and dusted in seconds.
