Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson tells Sky Sports: "I thought we started really well with a fantastic goal from Ollie [Rathbone].

"It's always disappointing to concede and it knocked us a bit but I thought we responded terrifically well in the second half.

"We've had a lot of games like that where we pin teams in and the ball goes in, but it didn't quite fall for us tonight.

"In terms of what we asked from the lads in terms of desire, energy, commitment - we got all that. But also that intelligence in when we press.

"We improved from the first game we played against them [Birmingham] and we deserved the win in the end. We had them on the rack.

Unbeaten at home with 29 goals for and 9 against.
Stevenage scored just 4 away although only 8 agaisnt so must keep it tight at the back on the road.

Stevenage had an awful spell in terms of results and performances just when they were looking like they might be an outside bet for the play offs, which started with a home defeat to Cambridge.  But they have been playing really well lately.  Very well deserved win at Barnsley at the weekend (Barnsley's XG was only 0.09)  It's 6 clean sheets in a row away from home prior to the Wrexham match.

Might well see this game highlighted on the next series of Welcome To Wrexham.  It'll be a different game 2nd half no doubt, but Stevenage have been well on top so far.

"We haven't been as free-scoring as we would have liked this season, but one thing we've done is worked exceptionally hard, but those two goals in the first half were too easy.

"We've got to get back to doing the very basics on the football pitch because if you're not playing well, for whatever the reasons, you still give yourselves a platform by fighting, competing all over the pitch, blocking shots and we were way off it tonight.

"It's a disappointing night for us and I've got to reflect quickly on that."

Wrexham had been riding their luck and are reverting to mean.  3 promotions in a row never been done between the top 5 leagues in England.  16 home games and 12 away too.  If I was them I'd take the play offs now.

next game is away to Mansfield on Sunday 23 Feb and I fancy them to win this one so its BACK an away win at 2.38

apols to all interested in this thread . i have no posted recently as have been away for a bit.

u are right of course ewaw what i set out todo  on the thread at the beginning i have changed as it was patently obvious that wrexham were changing from a seriously solid team at home and crap away to a team that was becoming unreliable at home and better away.hence my change in tactics

i think they are now a team to back on an individua basis esp as he season drawsto its climax andresults arereally hard to predict.

i will continue to look at other teams who can give you a home/away advantage and willtryand find sometrends that are worth following

don't worry, you don't need to give me anything, it's just a bit of admin and not that difficult to copy & paste a table from excel. i gave up booze years ago anyway ShockedLaugh

they only drew at home at the weekend i saw. i realise, looking back, that i sounded a bit grumpy in my last post but i was just more interested personally in what the outcome would be of blindly backing/laying. i will probably look at that separately later
