Not sure of that. Wimbledon were the team I remembered going from non-league to top flight. Fulham climbed quickly too I think, but probably not from non-league.

Wrexham have approached Christian Eriksen in the most ambitious move yet by the club under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The 33-year-old midfielder is without a club after his contract with Manchester United expired at the end of the 2024-25 season.

And Wrexham are keen to add the 144-cap Denmark international's experience as they prepare to return to the second tier of English football for the first time in 44 years.

Eriksen's agent Martin Schoots said that Wrexham was a "hugely impressive project" but added: "Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe."

Wrexham have signed midfielder Lewis O'Brien from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee on a deal that runs until the end of the 2027-28 season.

The 26-year-old was linked with a number of Championship clubs this summer after an impressive loan spell at Swansea City in the second half of last season.

Swansea had been keen to re-sign O'Brien, though their hopes always looked a little slim because of the finances involved in a potential deal.

Instead it is Wrexham who have won the race for the former Huddersfield Town player.

"It's been a long time coming, but to be here is great," O'Brien said.

"The last couple of years has been a whirlwind for me and my family, but to sign a long-term contract and find somewhere I can call home is a great feeling.

Wrexham have signed Bolton Wanderers midfielder George Thomason for an undisclosed fee.

Thomason has agreed a three-year deal at the Stok Cae Ras with the Dragons thought to have paid in excess of £1m to secure his services.

The 24-year-old leaves Bolton having scored 13 goals in 169 appearances after joining the club from non-league outfit Longridge Town in 2020.

"I'm buzzing to be here and I can't wait to be a part of the journey that the club has been on," Thomason told Wrexham's website.

"It's a really exciting time to be a part of the football club and it's going to be a really exciting season."

A left-footed central midfield player, Thomason took over as captain at the League One club last season, when he scored five goals in 46 games.

He helped Bolton secure promotion from League Two in 2020-21 and to Wembley victory in the Football League Trophy two years later.

Whatever one thinks of the Hollywoodness (sic) of it all they do seem to be doing things right. Investing where it needs to be and seemingly with an eye on the future and sustainability (of the club). In pretty much all this type of scenario, rich flyboys fly in, have a laugh for a few years and leave the club in a worse position not giving a sheet. I think when these leave, Wrexham will be in better position than when they came and able to sustain that. Will do very well to be mid table having said that.

This Argentina tie in is er interesting. Rather than get lost in the romance of a load of Welsh buggering off to Patagonia 200 years ago can i suggest (the Welsh) people take a look at why they did it, what they thought of the Wales/Welsh they left behind and what they'd think of Wales now?
Clue - they didn't even like Cornish miners (blood) who spoke the lingo and kindly showed them how to sing and mine at the same time! They preserved things from 200 years ago for their own reasons and if you can't trace your 'Welshness' to pre industrial times (basically pre 1750) then you shouldn't be in Wales was one of them.
