When you see Otamendi getting in ahead of Lisandro Martinez, you know its Messi and his mates picking the team
|
|
By:
funny I never saw anyone talking up Saudis price at half time.

If Saudi's win the tournament it's a bigger feat than Leicester winning the league and Greece in 2004

Could have been a stroll for Arg if their strikers knew how to hold their runs first half

The starting lineup in hindsight for Argentina was staggering. Their whole left side are pensioners (Including the left sided centre back so thats 4 players past their best. Messi on the right side wont raise a leg to work (Even worse than Ronaldo imho). Di Maria has been awful when he has played for Juventus this year. Lisandro has been by an absolute mile Man Utds POTY and he cant get in ahead of Otamendi

No, I only heard bits of the first half on the radio and of course the commentators were quite sure that Argentina would win 5-0. So typical of football that they assume that the relative standards of the 2 teams is the same as it was 5 years ago. Argentina were like a bunch of OAPs (which many of them are in football terms) in the second half.

Pleased for Saudi Arabia though, after sl@gging them off at HT
They’ve done themselves proud there |

Fair to say never saw that coming but Allah be praised I did not have a bet!
Kwality central defender! January will be interesting as players emerge! Glad it happened to Argentina but I carry no prejudice about the sins of their fathers ![]() |

Missed the match, but what a result! Messi is too old, Argentina are too old, and their game plan falls apart if he has a bad game. I think they will still qualify, so you can't write them off completely. But they are always placed as possible winners, when, in fact, they are not as good a Brazil, France or even Spain. Saudis are obviously much better than I gave them credit for, and a different animal to Qatar or Iran. A worrying result for Poland and Mexico.

By:
always 1 or 2 "big" teams go out in the group stage of every world cup. argentina will still qualify i think so
|
|
By:
Mexico have been a good team and won't be a pushover. Poland is relying on an ageing star forward and that didn't work for Argentina. We will know more later today, but Argentina need points against both of them.

PATHETIC result. However, just like it would count for zilch to cruise through to final and LOSE, to stumble there and actually WIN would hold the same worth. Unless the mentality of the Argentine players is piss weak(which doesn't seem likely if you've paid close attention to how they built up their unbeaten streak) they should be able to dismiss this loss for the freak result it was. They have completely blank/fresh canvas to work on again. If they fail to collect all 6pts from the next 2 matches,, the entire squad should leave the tournament with their heads hanging in shame.

just seen the saudi winner. great strike. the keeper got a hand on it too.

I've read on here that Argentina were 1.17 pre-match but what
were the other Bumfair SPs for Saudi and also the draw? |
|
By:
Saudis are now shorter to win World Cup than Wales.

True!
I was going to have a decent bet on Argentina -1! Lucky I did not! Fancy France and Brasil on the handicap though! |
|
By:
I had over 7.5 goals at 40/1 LOL. Mind you, Argentiin had some ruled out didn't they?
|
|
By:
Only two ruled offside so max 5 goals.

Watching the last 20 minutes, was anyone else picking up a possible juiced up vibe? Not that I ever accuse any Arab nation of cheating!
|
|
By:
ah well, only a fun bet. They normally don't cop anyway.

A few teams have played at high energy and intensity this week (Tunisia, Saudi, Mexico, USA in the 1st half), but I wouldn't think it would be anything dodgy. Who knows? Tunisia and Saudis probably see that as their best chance anyway, Mexico always play like that and USA gassed in the 2nd half.
|
|
By:
3 ruled out for offside

Have a look at Argentina's opening match in the 1990 world Cup.

Only two given by the ref and overturned by VAR though?

A little look back at some of the grade-A mugs on here who had written the Argies off after this opener..
