It's difficult to assess the ability of the manager's at Brighton and Brentford. They are owned by Tony Bloom and Matthew Benham, the two shrewdest men in football ownership.
Tony Bloom owns Union St Gilloise, who get promoted to the Belgian first division last season and are running away with it having started the season at 100/1. Matthew Benham did similar things with his second club FC Midjtyland in Denmark. I think the biggest stamp of approval for Potter is that Tony Bloom chose him to become their manager, rather than his success at Brighton. Ditto Thomas Frank at Brentford, although Potter didn't exceptionally well at Ostersund. Fourth Tier to Europa League. |

Ultimately, his refusal to depart from a rigid view of how his teams should play, inability to fix glaring problems, manage matches from winning positions, or prevent himself from losing the faith and respect of his players proved to be Martinez's downfall and he was never able to see through his vision for Everton. Why? Why? Why? |
