fwiw, when it comes to Sterling, it really is much more to do with media portrayal rather than public racism, in the very same way that David Beckham was absolutely crucified by the media after the 1998 world cup, and that had been brewing because of the way he was perceived, every single day he was in the papers because of his celebrity lifestyle, the sarong, haircuts, spice girl wife etc, they rubbed his lifestyle in people's faces and he got the backlash.
