Times are tough .....

Former footballers have been axed ahead of the new Premier League season as part of widespread cost-cutting measures across the broadcaster

Matt Le Tissier has been axed by Sky Sports ahead of the 2020/21 season as part of cost-cutting measures across the broadcaster.

The former Southampton striker will no longer work on Sky’s coverage of the Premier League, which begins this weekend in the form of the Community Shield between Liverpool and Arsenal, after a decision was taken on Tuesday to end his contract.

Fellow ‘Soccer Saturday’ presenters Charlie Nicholas and Phil Thompson are understood to be other high-profile casualties, with Sky forced to slash its staff numbers due to the financial crisis brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

Confirming his departure on Wednesday, Le Tissier wrote on Twitter: “Enjoyed my time at Sky Sports, time to look forward to life’s next challenge, thank you for the support down the years and special thanks to the backroom team which include @CazzaEccles @CarlyBassett @tvrevstats amongst many others, good luck all have a lovely day.”

The trio have been a part of the popular ‘Soccer Saturday’ goals programme throughout their time with Sky, and also appear regularly on Sky Sports News to give their reactions to breaking stories throughout the day.

Fronted by presenter Jeff Stelling, ‘Soccer Saturday’ saw Le Tissier, Nicholas and Thompson join others including Paul Merson and Phil McNulty to provide live updates across the Premier League and English Football League every weekend, but financial restraints have forced Sky into a reshuffle that will see them absent from the new Premier League campaign, which gets underway on 12 September - despite having nearly 50 years of broadcasting experience between them.

But Le Tissier saw his future with Sky come under scrutiny recently following his decision to wear a Black Lives Matter badge despite expressing his own views on social media that he did not entirely agree with the gesture, while he also urged his followers to “look beyond the headlines and government propaganda” in a critical post about Boris Johnson’s government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The comments triggered a number of complaints online to Sky Sports calling for his head, though the broadcaster is understood to have made this decision to release him from his contract without taking those complaints into consideration.

Like it or not, the current climate encourages female and persons of colour, so obviously an all-male, all-white panel
is no longer seen as required.

I think one of each will join the regular panel for future seasons.
(which is probably fair all round)

Sunday Supplement hasn't been scrapped has it?  They were doing it remotely for a few weeks due to Covid.  I stopped watching due to poor quality feeds and sound delays. I was hoping that they would get back to normal studio coverage once the new season kicks off.

Paul Merson surviving the cull tells me he was as cheap as chips to employ.

Jeff Stelling is excellent at his job as should rightly stay, no other presenter has the same charisma, they're all mostly dull and wooden.

I think Corona Virus is probably an excuse, last couple of years they've had more females on, Alex Scott maybe will become a regular, Clinton Morrison has been on a fair few times.

I suppose it is a diversity issue, 5 white middle aged men on a prime time show doesn't reflect modern society, though really as a pundit on prime time you should be someone who's words carry some weight, an ex player who was a top player or won a lot of trophies so people can buy into your opinion more, that was the case with all 4 of them, if you're going to have a women and a black pundit all well and good, but make sure it's quality over a box ticking ticking exercise, Clinton Morrison was an average forward who is not the best speaker, Ian Wright would be great, won trophies, top draw striker and full of personality.

Sky's cull of  white, male, over 50's continues as Le Tissier, Nicholas and Thompson needlessly join Gower and Botham on the scrapheap as Sky's Virtue Signalling campaign gathers pace. Talent and popularity no longer count for anything.

They have been very well paid for a job any of would do for a fraction ,so I have little sympathy as they will not be going to be poor house.

However this insane 1984 utopia we are living in where 3 white guys of an age who most people would agree do their job well in an entertaining way and nothins is said.
Compare if one female or BAME presenter was sacked in this manner  .

Perhaps when their PC version has viewing figures going through the hole and advertisers walks they might wake up to reality.

I guess Le Tiss knew it was coming, hence his recent anti-lock down comments on Twitter.  I doubt he would have made those if he was still employed by Sky.

No surprise here surely...The NWO and their insidious campaign of cultural marxism over the last few decades is so ingrained into the public pysche that no one really bats an eye lid anymore.

Ironically as far as I can see, certainly online, the main groups of people prepared to question this narrative at the moment are women & the black community.

Hardly surprising when white males have been conditioned into self censorship, even self hatred for so long.

And before some smart @rse says it's only a few has beens being put out to pasture... Maybe you're right in this particular instance and an extended stay in a reeducation camp will set me straight in the not to distant future.

I stopped watching these analysis shows years ago realising most of it was hot air and the information they waffled on about using irrelevant statistics was less useful than a worm receiving a pair of gloves in its Christmas stocking. Paul Merson is employed as an apparent "expert " on there yet nearly went bankrupt betting on it as in reality he knows as much as the mug punter backing 0-0 because there have "been a few recently".

What sky and other broadcasters fail to say is most matches unless top teams are involved, are decided by pure random chance events that nobody can predict but no one is going to subscribe to anything where luck plays a huge factor so we have these ridiculous diagrams of how many goals a team has scored between 20-30 minutes meaning there must be a mentality issue in the team as it is 6 goals higher than last season... it's quite funny how they try to make 22 guys kicking a ball around into something resembling Quantum physics in their ties supping glasses of water to look professional..... lord forbid someone should have cola or else Clinton the gangster Morrisson wont look as professional in his suit innit.

"full of personality" isn't something looked for in MSM television though, you're literally going to end up with generic, little personality, full of cliques individuals like this https://youtu.be/qAZ9ENh9LjE

This stuntpegg who has her own channel has already been on radio shows a lot and she knows very little about the game but has come straight out of drama school and talks well enough. If this is the future of football punditry I'm sorry you can keep the game. Its gone the same way comedy has gone in regards to MSM, no risks taken, and its not like these people are scared of offending people because they can't offend people, they are incapable of it because they are programmed drones with the milk still wet on their faces. To offend someone you need personality and some proper life experience, this lot don't have either.

We're at the point where rating football kits and stadiums every other week constitutes having vast knowledge about the game. These who do these pointless videos have 250k subs and 100k views per video. The game is soulless, full of soulless individuals, catered for them because they don't want people who know the game and who will not take much BS and actually speak their minds

SOCCER SATURDAY, sun supp worked because of the chemistry between  presenter and guests, when you introduce females the off the cuff .dressing room type banter goes and the shows become staccato ,the flow goes the men been careful ,over thinking what they say, imo
it would be like removing one of the lose women ,replacing her with a man and expecting the show to be the same, [ not that ive ever watched a nano second of lose women Laugh
