what kind of top 20 list doesn't have paul gascoigne or paul scholes
 and surely goalkeepers should be on a second list, and how many even saw duncan edwards, didn't play long enough to be judged either (R.I.P)Gary Linekar surely just a tap in merchant, Shearer would be above him sounds like an overall list compiled by someone or a certain age - and people in general tend to be biased towards they're own generation. |

in a team with hurst and peters over 16 seasons he won the fa cup, once. |

Between 1927 and 1931, when he was playing, I doubt if England played much more than 25 games. Remember, there were no Euro Championships and no World Cups in which England took part. England played an average of about 5 times a season... all friendlies. |

You can blame that on the manager who had no idea when it came to defence and defenders. That was the reason Moore fell out with Greenwood who with many other great players in the 60s finished no higher than 8th. |

Just shows how impossible these lists are, looks like a list of top forwards really, only defender in it is Bobby Moore.
Where are Dave Mackay, Colin Todd, Paul Mcgrath. Top midfielders and strikers with loads of flair, like Alan Hudson, Glen Hoddle, Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles. Could make a list of top 200 and still miss lots of terrific players out. |
