We also need cover for Rice and Soucek.  Quality cover they're the heartbeat/engine room of the team and need a break from time to time.  I dread to think what would happen if either got an injury

Small grape Moyes only seems to buy or loan players he has managed before.  It limits him I feel





Unfortunately Moyes has been limited by the board in how much he can spend and probably because of all the money that Pellegrini wasted.

West Ham manager David Moyes says he was not prepared to buy a striker during the January window just to "appease" people.

The Hammers signed Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard on loan and made winger Said Benrahma's loan from Brentford permanent.

After selling record signing Sebastian Haller to Ajax, Michail Antonio is their only recognised forward.

"We were looking and we had money to spend," said Moyes.

"But we are trying not to go down the same path as before. I am not going to sign players who have come in to appease people."

West Ham were looking at Josh King but had backed away from a deal before Everton signed the Norwegian striker on a six-month contract.

Having seen the disappointing result of huge spending during the 18 months Manuel Pellegrini was in charge on the likes of Haller and Felipe Anderson, Moyes wants to keep constructing his squad carefully, particularly as they have done so well this season by rising to fifth in the Premier League.

"When the club spent £200m, people said it was great and we were going places - it didn't work out that well," he said.

"We do want to add to what we have and we tried for a striker, but the players we wanted weren't available."

No one especially Moyes would disagree that we need another striker fattie but if there's nobody good enough within our price range then what can we possibly do.

We have wasted enough money on bad buys because of Pellegrini so we don't want to be making the same mistakes no matter what people on Twitter think. Those same people probably welcomed Pellegrini with open arms at the time but daren't admit it now.

David Moyes has urged West Ham fans to trust him as he tries to move the club away from a wasteful approach in the transfer market.

West Ham's failure to bring in a replacement for Sebastien Haller after the striker was sold to Ajax for £20million early on in the January transfer window has caused anxiety among the fanbase in east London.

Michail Antonio has been outstanding when leading the line for Moyes but is now the only senior striker at the club, and is always at risk of a hamstring injury.

While Moyes had money to spend, the Scot has been adamant that he would rather gamble and risk going until the end of the season with just Antonio rather than add to the list of expensive, unsuccessful signings made by the Hammers - and has urged supporters to be patient.

“What needs to happen now is that we get away from short-termism," said Moyes. "We can’t just bring somebody in because we have a centre forward out and they’ll help cover us for three months until the end of the season. The picture is completely changing. I want to bring a new West Ham.

“That has to be that we do things correctly. We want to bring more Tomas Souceks more Vladimir Coufals because of their hunger and their appetite.

“We are trying not to spend excessive money like we have in the past. What’s going to happen is that a lot of people don’t like change. Whatever walk of life it is in. The way West Ham need to go is a change. The small time that we’ve had and the small changes we have made have already made a difference.

“I would hope that most people would look at it and say it is the right way to go. Maybe in a few years people will look at it and say: 'That hasn’t worked so let’s get back to signing players for any amount of money. Overpaid, overpriced and we'll do that because that is the way we do it at West Ham.'

"I don’t think it’s the right way and if you’re a West Ham supporter you’d like to think your club is doing things in a way that will give you a chance to succeed. The players I want are the ones who want to be here for the long term and are hungry to play for the club. If anything their value will go up rather than down and we [don't] end up losing money whenever we bring somebody in.”
