I once played in a young against oldies takeon - youngs had 8 we had 9. One of the oldies hadn’t played for years and had a great game. Chatting on the way back in, having beat the youngs and a bit chuffed, we congratulated the guy. He told us before he started he thought about what he should do, not being too fit, short on breath etc: and came to the conclusion that with 9 against 8 there was always going to be a space somewhere, so he decided always to look for that space and simply go into it, then make sure he passed it to a team mate. I’ve often wondered how that tactic might ( or if ) work as a pre-arranged tactic in a top flight match? Probably not but a plan of some sort for the eventuality would surely help teams to at least keep their rhythm/composure in that situation?

Talk about ‘rinse and repeat’.
Another 3 points from a nervy and uninspiring performance, I really thought that at two nil up against a terrible Wolves side and attacking the Kop in the second half we might really open up and show some flair but boy was I wrong, Wirtz finally got a goal and Frimpong managed the full 90 minutes so that’s something. |

We’re still as unconvincing as the start of season though. First half good 2nd half bad. Wirtz picking up is bright note

I think it's more that the mentality is still brittle. They must know that we are really bad at defending set pieces and we've had a few games where we've gone from looking like we're strolling to clinging on.
They really need to make a change at tighten up for corners and free kicks. Do that and the confidence will build from there. New signings are starting to settle and produce now so the second half of the season should be a hell of a lot better than the first. |

Nunez and Gomez are good at set pieces, keeping Gomez fit is a massive problem these days, and the times last season when Nunez was first to the ball at corners etc. centre back in this window is crucial for us , yeah pop confidence is fragile. Strange one yesterday when Wolves scored and midfielders and forwards looked like they were have a chat about wtf,s going on at the back

Having players in space is a great idea and pass and move was pretty
much synonymous with Liverpool in my younger days. Not so easy today with all of the pressing and players trained to press whilst blocking passing routes. |

utd top 4 at 7/2 is the bet of the century for a layer duffy 19 Jun 25 16:02 2/1 Liverpool to win it is not good, the first thing anyone should be doing when considering backing Liverpool for the league is to assume that Salah is going to regress and then consider what price they should be. Surely 2nd best bet of the century for a layer!!! what do you think ...eh? |

Liverpool have parted ways with set-piece coach Aaron Briggs three days after Arne Slot lamented conceding from a corner to compound the Premier League champions’ terrible record this season.
Briggs, who arrived at Anfield just 18 months ago after a spell at Wolfsburg in Germany, had progressed from an “individual development coach” to become a key member of Slot’s title-winning backroom team last season. But during the current campaign, Liverpool have been among the worst performers during a resurgence of set-pieces in the Premier League. Slot has highlighted his team’s set-piece goal difference, which currently stands at minus nine. |

Don't know enough about Briggs, but apparently he wasn't a specific set-piece coach but was given the role when they failed to get their target.
So there's an element of empathy with him here. At the same time we've been hopeless on set pieces at both ends of the pitch, and anyone sacked in football gets a lovely soft landing so he'll hardly be looking for the yellow stickered food at tea time. Hopefully though we can use it as a psychological line to move on from and maybe get some better ideas into the players' heads on how to deal with them. All in all, almost certainly a positive move. |

Well that was the worst performance yet - utterly insipid. Only listened on the radio but Anfield was as quiet as I can remember.
Wirtz back to being anonymous, summed up by his useless free kick just before he was subbed. Apparently his recent improvement was because of his link up with Kirkez but tonight Kirkez is on the bench and only comes on when Wirtz goes off.  |

Gone very quiet on here - wonder why.
 Another drab performance against Fulham but given the lack of forwards it would have been an excellent three points but for the worldie with the last kick of the game. Obviously in hindsight he should not have been afforded so much space and time (reminded me a bit of that goal Vincent Kompany scored that cost us the league). We are still in fourth place thanks to everyone else being inconsistent. Obviously we might as well play the reserves in the next two games as we can’t get anything against Arsenal and we might as well get knocked out of the FA Cup by Barnsley. |

An excellent defensive performance for all we didn’t have a shot on target. Arsenal were very flat and seemed very nervous - I guess with City and Villa dropping points yesterday they felt a point was enough.
Hopefully Bradley isn’t too badly injured though it didn’t look good. Is there any chance Ghuei would sign for us in January if we made Palace a similar offer to before? |

excellent performance away to the champions elect in dreadful conditions. took the game to them in the second half although once again didnt create many chances. 9 unbeaten now in the league.hope the injury to bradley isnt serious.

am doing a study on a report of hillsbourgh and the hds efc ground and about europeon stuff but i cud use a helping hand about any1 who wud no why any1 got to the ground that disater in 1980 odd for any reason about why they got to the ground early ? any reason like ...it wud b useful... sheffield have trams too am sure ... any reason ?? |

coventrys ground is built above a casino ... if u stand by a casino in sheffield u can see hillsbourgh well u cud 5 years ago or so ... its liek a old texasian casino style from the outside doubt it was even there then .. av just saw it from around there with the writing on the side saw most of the grounds name word forgot which bit .. do u reckon its possible that that day a shop in sheffield like a clothes shop or sutin had a offer on or something similar like that .. i mean any reason at all like... any pubs shut that r usually open? just any reason really small as or coinsedental as it is, like sutin stupid like they got kicked out o hotel for bein stupid or sutin .. anything just to include in this report.. something different for me to say rather than my 2 years old recolecsion and wts wrote nt that av red much... ? any helkp any reason at all ?>>??>>>???

the road to the world cup 1998 fifa on the playstaion 1 . i was the best at writing a detailed report on to computers playing eachother and just writing it down. but once on the game and no1s ever believed me or av never heard it on any other footy game on anything , but i swear it was 2 computers playing eachother like i was just watching but there was a crowd violence fighting between 2 sets of fans and it said on the game like the game got abandoned bcos of crowd trouble on the game like.. av emailed them about it tthen like and they ssed its oinly 1 ever that it cud happen and did i still have it because they wer different or sutin i sed nah its well gone but they sed there was onli 1 ever made wer it cud happen and sed it was still long odds cos u might not finish that particular game and it had to b pc v pc playin like. they sed u shud of kept it because of that and i sed well i didnt really no i was 12 years old like and it was also probably a copy because it was chipped the ps1 and the police shud of stopped the fighting and let me carry on the match like.. but they sed it was a serious incident and if that u still had the game it wud b worth wteva or wteva like , i sed wt can ya do u no it was 27 years ago as if had still have a copy like ... but anyways ov course no1 wud believe that like but it did happen ... am just lookin for a reason anyhows :S on that i asked ... cudda been playing that game or sutin i dunno ? |

Absolutely monstered them second half. All the talk has been about the rejuvenated Odegaard and Rice being the best player in the league, but Mac and Szob took them to school.
Shame we had Isak, Hugo and Mo injured. Would have been a comfortable win with some firepower. |

looking at the benches we need reinforcements quickly You only need to look at subs that Arsenal made yesterday to realise how short we are Now that Bradley looks a long term injury we are particularly short at the back It looks like we will lose out on Guehi so im not sure what the other options are |

Probably a bit of Arteta sitting back and trying to negotiate a point that went into the mix the other night, we know that his default position is always to accept a draw if he deems it suitable and that would see the opposition have more of the ball, not that I'd want to begrudge Liverpool any credit mind you

Throw in Guehi going to City, Bradley getting a season ending injury and Salah fluffing his lines in Afcon and this must go down as the worst unbeaten run in the clubs hiatory. Desperately need to win on Wednesday and secure a top 8 finish. |

Looked a lot like our old selves last night, don’t want to tempt fate with our recent inconsistency, but was a tidy performance, don’t know what’s going on with macallister hair but it’s like a ball of fluff. I think we're just incredibly predictable. Play (at home) against teams who just sit back and look to nick a set piece goal, and we struggle. We bang our heads on the door, confidence drops and we end up looking average.
But pit us against a team that fancies their chances and whose fans expect them to have a bit of a go, and we look ten times better and can find spaces easily. I actually think the game against Caramac next week might be more of a challenge. But ultimately, this reminds me of the early Klopp teams or Rafa ones, where we could raise our game against the big boys and surprise them a bit. The CL might be our best chance of silverware this year. |

Agree with porc. Much better last night but the game will have suited us with them liking to try to attack 24/7. Having said that, up front was a world better and we seemed strong at the back for once. Don't think its any coincidence Konate was missing. Kerkez seems to be improving. Qarabag will be a different challenge altogether but will be very disappointing if not getting the 3 points and automatic quqlification.

In the CL league faze the so called lower teams will have a go especially at home In The PL its just become too predictable park the bus play for break aways and set pieces Certainly watching us at home the intensity of the press is not the same as under Klopp or last season but i suppose losing the likes of Diaz, Nunez and Jota RIP and even Elliott coming off the bench that was going to happen given who we bought Our style of play has changed - apparently we played a box midfield last night |
