La Liga embarrassed themselves today even attempting to block the deal, it's like a cowboy operation that they don't even know what their powers are or aren't.  I imagine they're taking it bad because it does seriously harm their league in terms of TV audience, millions in South America will now be watching more of PSG than Barca.

I think we've finally maxed out, don't think this'll ever be beaten only Messi and Ronaldo could have gone for more but even then you'd have to factor in their ages so probably would be less.

I think he's doing this because he was in Messi's shadow and he wants to win the Baloon Door, can't do that out wide for Barca. Cavani could be sold now ?

Sickening that the biggest cheat/diver in football is now also the most expensive player.

Can't blame La Liga for trying to keep Neymar. Remove Neymar, Messi, Suarez, Bale and Ronaldo from that league, and it's pretty much The Bundesliga or Ligue One. Albeit with a lot more diving and rolling around

I don't really get La Liga's stance at all. Real and Barca are always going to be perennial CL clubs and Spain is more attractive to galacticos than England. Those two always have and always will get the top players in.

The rules state that fines will be enforced if spending outweighs income by 30M.

I will tt this when it is known. Uefa are loving this transfer as it give them loads of cash, for their deep pockets.

Under FFP, it can be balanced over the length of the player's contact, which is 5 years.

The relevant period for FFP is 3 years and the current 3 year period finishes at the end of the 2017/18 season and then accounts are assessed. Forget about the fee, the relevant number is the fee + plus total wages + agents fees + bonuses divided by number of years of the contract, which is 5. The total spend is about €500m and for FFP purposes, that is €100m a year for 5 years, so PSG will have to show increased revenue this year of about 100m, less any profits made, less 30m. You are talking about them showing increased revenue of about €60m this year in order not to trip FFP. They will have to sustain that for the other 4 years of the contract too but that is for other FFP periods and not relevant to the current one. That is doable, I don't think they will do it but we'll see. It really comes down to the coming season as to whether they will trip FFP.

They wouldn't have to pay backhanders now because there is no assessment of whether this complies with FFP now, which makes a mockery of FFP really. If the deal was 3bn in total they could still go ahead even tho everyone would know they couldn't comply with FFP. The rules don't allow UEFA to step in and stop any deal. Sanctions can only be imposed afterwards and only once every 3 years.

Qatar could loan 100bn to PSG and that is irrelevant for FFP. The only relevant numbers are what you spend (amortised over the years of the contract) versus what you bring in in legitimate revenue.

UEFA are not going to take on these clubs on their own. It is the likes of Real, Barca, Bayern who need to step up and do something about it in order for it to stop and that might happen now.

just a thought on neymar, yes he should benefit by being the main man at psg but he will also be more closely marked, at barca he'll have got relatively more space due to the other players around him, at psg he'll possibly be double marked and of course defenders wont be afraid to leave a bit on him (but nothing new there)

Neymar senior sounds like a tricky customer.  Trying to get paid by both clubs.

The kid had no chance with that little s hit handling his finances.
