jr you can't just take two tournaments and ignore the third, where they were truly awful.  In that tournament they were the better team trying to break down weaker opponents, as he is likely to experience in WCQ with England, and their performances were dreadful.  Basing a managerial appointment on results over 4 games is just ridiculous imo.

Also seens like straw clutching to attribute West Ham's improvement to 1 player of the sort that Allardyce would be unlikely to sign in the first place

England are more like the West Ham of world football.
Big Sam/Redknapp for me.

I'm judging Allardyce over 20 years.  It's only 8 games West Ham played without Payet (and 8 games is hardly enough), but it's 30 they played with him and he was their undisputed star.  Whether Bilic chose Payet, or Payet was chosen for him, and Whether Sam would've chose him is irrelevant, since in International football you don't make transfers.

I rate Bilic.  Stood out a mile as a pundit.

7 competitive games is what Hodgson is being judged on, rather than what I think is the 1 defeat from the other 24?

I don't think USA were that great in the Copacentenario just played either. Played 5 w3 l2 f 7 a7 and lost to the two 2 good teams.  That's about where the USA are.

The players would buy into big Sam I'm sure...and Harry. They didn't buy into Capello who had all the credentials. We don't need a rocket scientist foreign manager.

They also know the Premier League and all the English players first hand.  Klinsmann doesn't.  I think he could be a disaster.

Antonio will be in Sam's first squad - can one have a bet on such a thing?

Over the course of his tenure with Germany and USA, Clyde, he has shown excellent coaching ability at international level and has achieved good results in the main. Losing in the Concacaf Gold Cup sf to Jamaica after taking 7pts in the group stage and beating Cuba 6-0 in the qf is hardly a disaster with a very limited squad. Big Sam would be yet another Hodgson/McClown-type appointment imho.

Again, this is a misconception of the highest order. Allardyce is not some primitive, he knows how to accommodate gifted players within a solid team, as the bolton fan above said.

We need a manager to put heart n soul into the team, get the best out of the players, football isn't rocket science it's a simple game.Tactics are easy! There's a hundred managers out there with tactical brains just as knowledgeable as Klinsman. If he got the job it'd be all about "me me me n my systems".

jr they may have got 7 points but their performances were awful.  They didn't deserve to win any of them and the opposition incredibly poor.  The USA want rid for a reason.

Why?, because he wouldn't allow them to stop the game every 5 minutes for an ad break?

Getting out of the group stage of a world cup and semis of the copa should be viewed as a success for the yanks at football..err, sorry, soccer I meanBlush

Seriously though, we're in a desperate state, we've all been told that the next appointment needs to be the right one!!! How then can we go for someone with zero international experience, failing that then how are we going to go for someone with precisely zero stature, and I'm talking from the view point among the players because the moment things go wrong, half the dressing room will be saying, who the fook are you!!

What I've seen of Big Sam sides, it'll revert England to football from the dark ages. Throwing it into the mixer for the big no9 to get on the end of, an emphasis on physicality, no finesse, no possession football, parking the bus. ffs, does anyone really want that as the future of the England team?

For all his Big Sam's perceived faults, I wouldn't have minded seeing Andy Carroll on the end of a few crosses.  Lots of sides at the Euros didn't have a clue when trying to defend against "big number 9's".  At least it would have given us another option.  I bet Big Sam would never have taken Rooney either, another fact in his favour.

I really don't get the anti big Sam stuff. Yes he has a long ball/direct reputation, but I think he would do well with the side personally. The foreign coaches didn't get us any further than previous England managers. Maybe he would actually stand up to this shower and drop players that aren't delivering - yeah I know a crazy thought right to play players that are in form and include players from less fashionable teams that would come in and play as a team.

Anyone but Fat Sam PLEASE...I'd rather bring back Sven.

The crowd booing the team on and off the pitch is a stonecold certainty, as night follows day, and not something i really ever want to see.

USA were better under Bruce Arena than Klinsmann.  Would he not be a better choice?

I think the rejuvenation of the German side is what the F.A. should be paying attention to rather than how he's done with the yanks, although I think the F.A. will be frightened off, as he may want to change everything from top to bottom.
