Fanwise I mean?

West Ham v Millwall
Arsenal v Spurs
Newcastle v Sunderland
Liverpool v Everton
Villa v B'ham

I actually read somewhere it is supposed to be Wolves V West Brom, but as Wolverhampton is it's own City I don't see how it is really a Derby.

I would plump for West Ham v Millwall myself.
Apparently all to do with Scotland sending down dockers in the early 1900's who nicked the jobs of the west ham guys.
The Scots then affiliated with Millwall and that's why Millwall wear Blue

people always make up stories about dock strikes etc to try to give some political/economic significance to what is simply tribalism

The rivalry of Derby matches is fiercer because in the early days of pro football 99.5% of fans were home fans in most games .Derbies would be the only games with any away fans (who would simply walk to the ground in their thousands) so it was a very different atmosphere.

I went to a sunday football match in the 70s when the rose and crown played the three tuns; there was about 300 people there; that was right up there with the professional games for a local derby

Wolves-West Brom is indeed nasty.

All depends on era this question though, as nowadays is probably very sterile compared to the likes of the 80s.

If Arsenal and Spurs were equally good or bad, this question wouldn't need asking.

The Wolves - WBA thing is indeed nasty, but Bristol City v Bristol Rovers would be another choice for complete hatred, shame they don't play much these days.

Not exactly local, but Millwall v Leeds, Millwall v Birmingham are both evil matches, been to a couple of both, got out of hand. Any game involving Millwall really can become a throwback, great place to go.

There's always been more to football than 22 blokes kicking a ball about supernap, and there always will be. The day there isn't, the game is dead.

Nowadays English football is mainly watched by 50+ year olds, sitting comfortably in silence on their fat arses.

That is in interesting point, Ken. I had always detested Rugby due to a particularly nasty sports teacher (Mr de Sade) and being trapped under a scrum, but having watched the RWC the game certainly has its merits .
