Charlie, Broadfoot has just got a record ban for sectarian abuse against James McClean, who is the innocent party in the matter. Its really that simple, stop inventing nonsense.

freddiek, I'm not disputing Broadfoot's abuse. I do not agree that McLean is an innocent party.

in this instance he is. I understand you may have issues about his previous actions but unless you were at the game and know something we don't you've no evidence to say that.

Apologies if I'm not making myself clear. Broadfoot was wrong.

I'm not talking about this particular game but his (McLean's) actions at various football games.

Can anybody provide a link to McClean turning his back on the English flag, or in some way disrespecting the anthem prior to March 2015 when the instance with Broadfoot took place?

If not then these incidents are irrelevant to what happened between him and Broadfoot as they hadn't happened yet.

Thats not what this is about.
Broadfoot unleashed a load of sectarian abuse at McClean and has been punished it for it. He could do it to anybody, was just McClean in this instance.

How do you know that? It doesn't clarify what the abuse was.
McLean has singled himself out in the past with his stance on the wearing of Poppies and turning his back when the National Anthem was being played.
He's well known for his republican sympathies and not only political either.
That's his choice and Broadfoot had a go at him. That was his choice. Broadfoot got punished but I have no sympathy for McLean who I see as a bigot.

he obviously had more than a go at him, 10-match ban indicates that. Aka you're either firmly against sectarian abuse or you support bigotry, its that simple.

its wrong no matter who is on the receiving end.

McClean didnt abuse anybody. He shouldnt be forced to wear poppies..I would describe what he did re. the anthem as misguided or disrespectful. But its still his right to do that and not against the law. So clearly not in same category as Broadfoot

Refusing to wear a poppy was Nov 2014 and also a year earlier at Sunderland I believe.

thats his choice, no law against that..There is however a law against sectarianism, so making a comparison between the 2 is nonsensical.

liking songs are not illegal, its your personal choice. McClean may not like Rule Britannia say, or other songs that may be popular in a BA barracks.

In the context of this discussion it's relevant.

We're not getting very far with this. You think he's goody-two-shoes. I don't.

Why did the FA not release what was supposed to have been said by Broadfoot? When in the case of Terry vs. Anton Ferdinand the FA quoted the exact words that Terry was charged with saying.

Also anyone in the Broadfoot case was prohibited from discussing anything about it or the verdict, yet Terry was allowed to freely talk about the case after his guilty verdict.

All very bizarre imo

It will all come out eventually. No doubt via a book release.

Reports suggest that the confidentiality clause was invoked to 'protect the safety of those involved'.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-3173281/Rotherham-defender-Kirk-Broadfoot-banned-10-games-alleged-sectarian-abuse-aimed-West-Brom-winger-James-McClean.html

Make of that what you will. If true I can only come to the conclusion that in the opinion of the FA, some people that would make James McClean look squeaky clean might put Broadfoot's safety in jeopardy if his remarks became public.

And to make matters even worse, he's no good anyway. He'd be no loss to any team.
Stick him back up to Derry City, he can play a bit of football , and still have time for intimidating people, looting , chanting nationalist songs and whatever else them yokes get up to.

Anyone who disrespects the British national anthem should be jailed for 6 months and fined 3 years wages

I've been disrespecting that dirge and what it stands for since I was old enough to know, not that I'd particularly agree or disagree with McLean, a rebel with an antique cause.

I've just found the clip, first time I've seen it.

He didn't turn his back, but he did turn 45 degrees to the side.
My view is it was unnecessary. I'll defend anyone's right not to wear poppies or to wear white poppies, but this kind of stuff is just
confrontational. There's no need for it. I don't know the lad but I hope he's nothing like Stokes - that man is a bellend IMO.

"Broadfoot unleashed a load of sectarian abuse at McClean and has been punished it for it."

according to a couple of fans who obviously have the same bigoted views as McClean and as we all know from experience, sectarian fans would never make anything up about the other side, would they.

They should sack the piece of Shiite and send him back to that kip Derry , that's what they should do. He doesn't have much of a problem looking at the queens head when it's on a note, now does he ?I'm actually disgusted that they got the basstard to play for the Republic , I'd much prefer if he played with that other shower up North.

Mclean has made a big point of making his anti - Brtish feelings known for a good while now.

Thats his right to do so, - but dont do it in Britain and take British coin to boot. If he feels that strongly about his contempt for Britain, i suggest he plies his trade back in Ireland.

Then again, he would be on 2 bob a week there, so understand why he hasnt gone home just yet.
