I think Liverpool will get back into this. There's a huge gap between De Gea and his back four at times and Liverpool will exploit this at some point.

The Step Over Kid fooled me last year too, I actually thought he was a good player, after thinking he stunk for years. I call it the 'Suarez effect'. Sterling worth £50M? pfft...

Sterling is not a wing back.

Jed I'm old enough to remember football from the mid 70's onwards.

I'd say the skewed perspective of what a big club is/was comes more from people like yourself to be honest. The kind of skewed perspective that intimates that any success achieved following investment from a rich owner doesn't count. I don't have any illusions about Chelsea being the biggest club in the country or anything else but it amuses me just how desperate Tottenham fans are to be considered as bigger than Chelsea. What I do know is that whichever way you want to consider what a big club is, historical attendances, trophies won, European trophies, quality of the pies or whatever Chelsea have every bit as much claim to be a big club as Tottenham do and indeed it can be argued even more so.

To be honest I don't really give a monkeys if something that happened in the 60's has more influence than it really should do in what constitutes a big club. I only know Tottenham as a big club because they had been designated that accolade before I was born. Indeed when I've been preached to over the years about what is needed to be seen as a big club I've never quite been sure how Tottenham ever qualified but these are things before my time. Not really bothered about Chelsea winning the title in 1955 because that was also before my time and it means as much to me as Tottenham's title before that. It's just writing in a book. All I know is that during my lifetime Chelsea have won all the trophies there are to win and that's the only thing that any football fan should be bothered by really.

Unfortunately for you, the equation goes that the less present day success of a team the more interest that team's fans have in the history books. Nothing jaundiced about that, it's just fact.
