Looks like free money. All the free money was presumably yesterday afternoon/last night and heavy odds on.
On the flip side, were he to win all nine he'd be heavy favourite to keep it. And secondly he'd only need one more league match to complete the 10 fixtures - would a theoretical relegation play-off count as a league match were they to tie for 17th/18th position too? Last bit clearly far out, but certainly not impossible. |

stays on as manager to ease in new head coach next season , ....

Dutch journo who spoke with Advocaat yesterday claims Advocaat said he will only be at Sunderland for the rest of the season. Goes on to bring up the point his wife isn't too keen continuing to accommodate his football exploits away from home. Despite the admission from Advocaat he will not continue the journo does go on to guess at best a 10-20% chance he'll continue (assumes he'll avoid the drop).
Can listen to it here; http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02kv4z7 1:13:42 is where the question is asked to the journo if Advocaat would take it on permanently. |

Found a quote from Advocaat. Run thru a online translation reads;
On NOS stresses Advocate that he only instigate this season at Sunderland. Then the coach back to the Netherlands. "It is a short-term project. 9 Matches in 2 months. no more and no less." |

looks like free money but tied up for a while; suppose the saying patience is a virtue comes into play

If he does well he might find it hard to turn down a contract in the summer.
He is here to fight relegation so won't be looking further ahead at the minute. |

And Lee Congleton friend of the stars will still be at the Club...
Lee who and how do those nomarks get such jobs.. |
|
By:
It seems well planned,we always change our manager so they can start with a confidence boosting victory against the magpies don't we ?

Sporting Director at Sunderland.
Whatever than means. |
|
By:
what are his credentials though
i mean if Guardiola went there for an interview would they be seeking assuarnces he could get on with Congleton |
|
By:
Worked under Frank Arnesen at Chelsea, followed him to Hamburg.
Probably one of the many bluff merchants working in the game. |
|
By:
ah , another Commoli type maybe
|
|
By:
Congerton is probably the eyes and ears for Ellis Short, someone who speaks english and one he can trust after de Fanti's investment performance.
|
|
By:
director of football must the softest job in the game. buy a lot of players the manager doesn't want and then tell the chairman it's all the manager's fault when they don't work out before moving on to another disaster

Sending mixed signals. Who knows what the clubs plans are.
But if Advocaat achieves his aim of keeping Sunderland in the top flight, then he says he would consider a longer stay. The 67-year-old is yet to hold his opening press conference as Sunderland head coach, but he has spoken to the Dutch press. “I’ve heard and read the reports that they are already looking for a younger trainer,” said Advocaat. “At the moment, I’m only here for two months. “But, in principle, yes (he’d be interested). |

Was it Congerton who was responsible for signing washed up Defoe for 3.5 years @ 80k a week ?
|
|
By:
Anyone noticed the new market name for next Sunderland and QPR managers?!
|
|
By:
Poyet was raving about Defoe and claimed his friendship at Spurs helped the deal. Most fans agree with the signing but Gus changed the formation around so many times nobody knew who was where.

DB guessing there were some massive seething directed to Betfair and they felt they at least had to help out the blind.
|
|
By:
Probably. But can't believe it's taken until now Horangi. Been plenty of mistakes made with these markets - Benitez was backed to 1.01 (or therabouts) upon initial appointment only to drift right back out again.

not good for free money

At the end of the day Betfair needed to sort it out, customers will leave if they feel they've been hard done (whether right or wrong). With only 9 games to go and their standard 10 game rule in effect they should've brought out the note from the get go. Pretty obvious where it was headed especially as a short term (potential anyways) manager was being reported.
Be nice of Betfair if they loaded up some more manager markets. Newcastle and West Ham surely will bring in new men. |

By:
defoe was a ludicrous signing especially for that sort of money and on a long contract
he hasn't played regularly in the prem for years and years |
|
By:
the mixed messages from advocaat seem perfect for the market
a newcastle market would be great, if only to let us know who will be managing next season west ham too, ..... |

Yeah Pellegrini unlikely to survive as well, that's three obvious ones. Don't know what holds BF back from loading them up, emailed a couple times and they just don't seem to want to bother.

how long is Defoe's contract ? , assumed would be 2 years max

Toronto started it with a really absurd contract...which still didn't stop him from forcing a move away when he didn't like it there. Was able to capitilize on SAFC's desperation and now the beat goes on.

altidore still had 2 years left, so the deal cant have been that expensive, and altidores sale
will look good on financial fair play sheet, |
