Would've been nice if Betfair recognized the situation and altered their standard rules for this market. Not exactly bettor friendly with the 10 game rule in effect and 9 games remaining.

I would hazard a guess if Derby don't get promoted, they might go for a Steve McClaren, won a league title in Holland, trophy with Boro, league positions 12-11-11-7-14, knows the North East, international manager, coach with treble winning 99 side

Paul Clement(Real Madrid assistant manager) was sounded out weeks ago by the board to take over in the summer, unlikely he will take over at this stage of the season though.

Advocaat here at Betfair is trading far too low. Guessing they'll be quite a few who don't bother reading the rules. 9 games left in the season and he will unlikely see the 10th next season. Unless the wording of the official statement from SAFC somehow excludes temporary/caretaker/interim/"until the end of the season" there is little hope for backers.
Apparently a journo talked to him tonight and he confirmed he will take the job for the rest of the season and then very likely retire. |
|
By:
Harangi is spot on, appointment is only going to be till end of season.......9 games left.
Ellis Short wants a longer term manager in place and Advocaat is too old for that role. |

Can't believe how low he traded last night, can never underestimate the level of stupidity out there. Of course I guess I was stupid to lay at 1.50 when it later fell to comical levels.
Even now unsure why there's an appetite to back sub 3's, not sure if this more dumb money or legitimate belief he will be in charge next season. All the reports suggest he is not the club's long term candidate and a handful of other names are given as targets. Sure I suppose there's a chance if he does well sentiment shifts in his favor and the club may change their mind. But as of this moment we don't even know if Advocaat wants a longer stay, it could be a total non-runner. |
|
By:
He might not stay if Poyet has left one of his famous leaving presents in the dressing room

By:
As I said yesterday our number one target is Paul Clement...............the Sunderland Echo are now reporting this today..........maybe they read this thread.
![]() ![]() As Horangi said, the stupidity of people never fails to amaze you, there is zero chance whatsoever of Advocaat been here next season, whether we stay up or not. |
|
By:
he's 67, he can't be long term. He will recommend his Dutch pal Jol.

Sun reported just over a month ago a sounding out of Clement for next season, as you say local paper now suggesting he's at the top of the list. Makes sense given the head coach role they want and his probable connection to the current DOF. Got some money in the 20's on the man and will probably try to add more at what appears to be a decent price.
Allardyce name also popping up and at first thought dismissed it but I suppose he's a steady hand and will be free in the summer. He'll probably want it although he doesn't really fit the head coach role. McClaren is touted as the number one target by the lone voice of the Guardian but get the feeling from following the Newcastle manager market he is almost nailed on to move there, if anywhere. |
|
By:
Clement and Congerton our DOF are mates, they worked at Chelsea together and if we stop up I expect him to be appointed.
People next to remember we are not looking for a "manager", we are looking for a "head coach". Forget about the likes of Allardyce, he simply won't be appointed as long as Congerton is there. |

poyets comments about wanting a return to the days of quinn and phillips
give a clue as to what was going on its all well and good having a dof and a head coach, but you still need a manager of sorts some of these owners in the north east are clueless |

Looks like the Chairman is looking for Championship football, by appointing a bloke thats 67 years old and hasn't a clue about Premier League football

I'm sure he has watched a few premier league games and knows what to expect.

tenpins as always an insightful post...
May as well appoint my dad as he watches a few games on TV but he has the advantage of wearing a red and white striped shirt.. Does not support Sunderland as well..(supports a team formed far earlier with an honours board that is so large that they would have to take the windows out at the "Stadium Of Light" to fit it in)... WHERE DO THEY GET THEM FROM.... |
|
By:
In all of this joviality may I ask as a football person...
Who the feck is Lee Congleton and with his track record why is he still in employment.. Just a thought.... |

By:
Those North Eastern teams deserve all that they get..
The fans should go down on one knee every lunchtime when they get up and thank the Lord that some mug has pumped millions into each club. Instead what do they do - they bite the hand that feeds them.. Do they sign on every Month and boo the Civil Servant that hands over a cheque.. Probably.... ![]() ![]() |

Gibson ain't perfect. But he certainly ain't clueless either. Though your second post sort of backs that up anyway.
As for Robson (got them promoted to Premier League) and Southgate (accepts he should have given him longer). |

is a lay of advocaat at 2,50 free money , or a booby trap ????
to me it looks like free money |
