How do England hope to do any good with midfielders like Gerrard.  Pirlo made him look like a two year old kicking a ball for the first time.
And Gerrard is 34.  Pirlo can play at 35 because he is good.  Gerrard is not good.

Gerrard is a media player, like Beckham.
(1) talks a good game
(2) walks around doing nothing
(3) plays for a big club
(4) is very old

It would be an improvement.

Suarez is worth millions but he still has a passion to play for his country allied to world class ability. Our players just have the millions and once they trot back to their mansions in a couple of weeks time they won't be the slightest bit bothered.

ALL England matches should be treated as test matches. Call it a "friendly" and everyone treats it like a friendly. Fans, players, media & clubs.  Clubs withholding players, players citing fictional injuries, mass substitutions etc. take every match seriously and you engender a winning habit that builds momentum. At their peak Spain went something like 30+ games unbeaten. All games had their best players who had to earn their caps. No free rides.

Reason I backed Uruguay @ 4 to win was because I watched England - Italy as a replay in HD on my tablet and...England seemed like a highschool team. One expert called Rooney, then a bunch of jumping youngsters like someone called Sterling, and all it took was Balotelli two easy "lets stand next to goal and push it in" and it was over. English team seemed like it was just stitched together. Uruguay on the other hand, was identical to Confederations cup team of 2013 and very much the same as in 2010 world cup where they got far too.

England seems to hate itself. You seem afraid of being labelled as racist if you have too much pride in yourself. Thats why you like want to loose. Its too patriotic to win.
