They get through to the last 16 of the CL but don't have enough supporters to keep a thread alive.
Yet their supporter, currently resident in Spain, believes they are a bigger club than United ![]() |
|
By:
Since 1998 the City Academy has produced more professional players than any other Premier League club. hth
Just checked things.... above United in the League...check still in Champions League...check still in League Cup....check still in FA Cup...check |
|

Yet virtually no fans. Not even enough to keep a betfair thread going. League champions but they have to give tickets way to fill their little stadium.
If City want to be a big club they'll need more than money. |

Man City's fanbase grows 523% as rivals Man Utd see worrying 19% drop off

Utd are bigger now but there's no doubt things can change and change quite quickly, particularly overseas where foreign fans with no local ties to a club will move on to another at the drop of a hat.
For instance, Liverpool have always been a draw overseas, particularly in Asia and Australia and have had no trouble getting good crowds but after last season's misery the tour started in front of a half empty stadium in Malaysia. I firmly believe that this plus some empty seats at midweek games was the biggest reason for the owners deciding to change manager. Now, if Woy stays in charge and continues to destroy and flair/big name players save for a 32-33 year old Rooney and keeps on playing his turgid brand of football how many foreign fans are going to be drawn towards Klopp's up and at em style or Pep's death-by-football down the road. Why would a young guy in Thailand continue to watch and support such dross when much more attractive fare is on offer just as easily? |

By:
That article made me laugh. Even a numpty such as yourself must realise that anyone who claims City have gained 10.1 million extra fans in the UK is clearly a mathematical idiot.
|
|
By:
I will pass on your concerns about the number to the Express.
|
|
By:
There are about 65 million people in the UK. So The Express are claiming that around 1 in 7 people in the UK have suddenly become City fans
![]() And you believe it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
In 2005 it was estimated at just under a million. Don't forget most Man United fans (well 19% according to the report) have jumped ship. The report may include United fans that were closet City fans
![]() |
|
By:
who was it that told me FFP would be the death of city??
![]() |
|
By:
If City had a million fans in the UK they wouldn't have to do BOGOF to fill their little ground.
If City had a million fans in 2005 in the UK then by The Express' estimate they have over 11 million now. 1 in 6 of the population ![]() |
|
By:
The BOGOF offers were for European matches, as you are well aware. Unlike United, City do not force their fans to buy European tickets as part of their season ticket. Whilst United fans may ridicule this I know which method I would prefer, especially if my club had just been knocked out of the Champions League and now season tickets holders are required to buy tickets to a match against a team from a country ending in "stan" that the vast majority will not be interested in.
|
|
By:
But 1 in 6 of the UK's population are City fans
![]() |
|
By:
it may be a bit generous in the numbers, I have no idea how they arrived at the figures
![]() |
|
By:
250k at tops. Less than Spurs but more than Everton.
I imagine there are around 50k from the old days before the club bent over for the Arab dollar. They are generally decent people and deserve great credit for supporting the club through thin and thin. |
|
By:
so you reckon one fifth of all City fans in the UK turn up at the Etihad? I reckon your figures might be even more out than those from the Express
![]() |
|
By:
That's about right. I don't think City have too many fans outside of Manchester and the woolyback towns of the northwest where there is sod all else to do on a weekend.
|
|
By:
plenty of birds at Martin Mere
|
|
By:
Come on City fans surely you can discuss City's game at the weekend rather than obsessing on your more famous neighbours
![]() |
|
By:
3 or 4 nil
will that do? ![]() |
|
By:
not the 3 or 4 nil but hey ho, top of the league
![]() |
|
By:
still look well dodgy though

With Kompany increasingly injury prone Pellegrini must be pulling his hair out that two very expensive central defenders in Otamendi and especially Mangala aren't making the grade at the moment. The drop off when Kompany, Silva and Aguero aren't playing must be alarming for the fans.
|
|
By:
Whilst it's noticeable I wouldn't say it's alarming. They're 3 very difficult players to replace and if there were 3 like for like replacements they wouldn't be sitting on a bench at City. I think the squad is probably stronger than it has been. Otamendi has made 10 league starts, Mangala 9, Kompany 8, (Demichelis 4). I think once Kompany, Mangala and Otamendi have played enough matches together they will be more solid. The season started with Kompany and Mangala starting (first 5 matches) and 5 clean sheets. Kompany's other 3 matches were with Otamendi (2 clean sheets) which pairing will become first choice will be a difficult choice.

![]() There are some horrible bstards about. I heard a cat crying outside so I opened the door and saw four blokes in Manchester United shirts playing football with it. I was just about to phone the RSPCA when the cat went 1-0 up. |

cant see Pep going to a club with no history...and a stadium that is empty, an academy that not produced a decent player, best players coming to the end of their careers. a club claiming to self sufficient and kids going to st bedes which has is quickly going downhill (due to them thinking they have made it due to citys policy of aggressive marketing while not interested in education).
The list goes on but they have now cracked China |

The ABU troll themover recently claimed 1 in 6 of the UK's population were Sh!ty fans. So how come they haven't had a single post to their thread all year?
