I think the Liverpool fans are being disingenuous here. The point being made isn't about Liverpool refusing to sell Suarez. I'd fully expect them to work hard to keep hold of their better players. The point is that the club and indeed Rodgers lied about the clause. From this point onwards their word means nothing. They are proven liars and will be judged as such.

A buy-out clause in a contract typically allows a player to leave a club if a stated minimum transfer value is met - but Liverpool insisted last summer that there was nothing in Suarez's contract obliging them to sell the player.
What we have here is a poster who comes with with a sensationalist thread title to pander to other plastic sh!ts and hopefully make a few chums. Whereas real fans from all clubs would do nothing but applaud what the American owners did in the summer, and stop players and agents trying to dictate and hold clubs to ransom. One of the most negative things the internet has done, is to give the same type of plastic gobsh!tes who are ruining the sport, a voice on forums that has no positive impact whatsoever, on what was once a fantastic sport for common hard working people. Of course they could have done things 'The UTD Way" and been held to ransom (3 times) by an over-rated player that they are desperate to hold on to (even though very few clubs want him) so pay him stupid amounts of money to stay - that's that's the way to do it! There are some very naive and somewhat stupid people on this thread - roll on the next few months to 'out' them some more - please do carry on with the faux indignation as it really is very funny.

Since when did any players contract mean anything ? Rooney signed an extension , then couldnt wait to get out of United , so they chucked more money at him and United tried to have everyone believe that Rooney never wanted to leave Suarez has signed up for the next few years , do you really believe that he would see out that contract if Liverpool dont make the CL ? You must be living in a dream world if you think a contract means something these days. |

management and players. Before we get ahead of ourselves Liverpool have not won anything yet. This Liverpool team, although exciting to watch, are a long way from the truly great teams of the past. Those teams were built on a certain code of standards...ignore these things at your peril. |

In essence the contract merely acts as a safety blanket if a player runs it down he can move for nothing or a fraction of his worth to the club
Having a player under contract helps keep his price in the market at a level you are happy with gives you an advantage when negotiating imo |

To all intents and purposes contracts have been solely for the protection of the player for many years now. They safeguard the player against career-ending injuries or complete loss of form. If they ever want to break the contract they just go right ahead.
John Henry is absolutely spot on in his reading of the situation and Liverpool should be applauded for taking a stand against this odious Uruguayan. |

It's about time clubs stood up against the players they have far too much power now. I would like to hope we would do the same if a player we wanted kept wanted out. We always tend to sell although we do seem to get a good price.

If it was Barca or Real in for him and Suarez had wanted to leave, how much consideration do you think he'd have given to his Liverpool contract? Not much i reckon, he'd have psuhed for a move and been on his way. Fair play to Liverpool and an opportunity missed by the Spanish giants to get a player for 40m who is now going to cost double that.

I don't think Real could finance a Suarez and Bale purchase in the same summer window, but I wouldn't expect the £70 million (if that is now the release clause) to put them off this summer if they decide he is to be this years main target.

Eeternaloptimist - I wouldn't condone Liverpool FC'S deceit in this matter but it hardly matters to the likes of me who are just about managing to pay the household bills. Football lost all credibility a long time ago when it started to pay ridiculous wages to grossly overrated players and even more grossly overrated managers. The story is virtually forgotten now never mind in the mists of time.
I would turn my back on the game completely if it weren't for my tribal instincts which compel me to support my team, but only from my armchair. |
