All the reports seem to say United happy to pay £37M , Chelsea happy to take that....

But the player apparently has not shown any indication he is happy with this at all

Holding out for PSG Confused

Think he'd love to come to us. Not convinced at all that we are willing to pay £37m for him. Seems madness for him given he is out of favour and could easily go for nigh on half that if the player stamped his feet in.

I think the question is why the **** does he want to go there anyway??!!

Prob because that's the only place Maureen will sell him too!!
Which is still a bit thick on his part! I am sure there is room for him at Barca, Atl Madrid

Mata needs a move in January if not his place in the spain world cup squad is in severe doubt. He could end up at Utd though it does seem an odd fit. Moyes refuses to give Kagawa a proper chance despite Rooney and RVP being absent and Mata is a very similar player to Kagawa (if maybe a bit better). Moyes also turned down the chance of signing another similar player in Ozil at the start of the season.
I'd expect a move at the end of the month and if Utd are the only ones who match the asking price it will be there but it could easily be elsewhere if someone else comes in for him
By:

OZIL chose to go elsewhere.
Still Mata joining them would be a short term benefit for World Cup place...cup tied on Europe I think so fresher legs for the league.

I think half the problem is him motivating the players mentally and tactically.

Only reason they are this high up in the league is because if Rooney and some lucky wins in Xmas/NY period.

Utd were offered Ozil but turned it down. Ozil may have still chosen Arsenal but he did not have the choice. Still think Utd is not a good option for Mata but just depends on whether other clubs match the asking price as it is a better option for him than staying at Chelsea.

Ozil did turn down utd as did bale and at least 3 others in last window .
Now Rooney is going Madrid or Chelsea rvp refusing to play unless he goes.
It seems people just don't want to go there mata probably doesn't have much choice but wanted back to Spain

Surely not, after all Moyes did tell us this:

"The amount of big players wanting to join United is incredible. Maybe players want to go for the money to other clubs but, if you ask them where they really want to be, they want to wear the badge of Manchester United"

Course they do David!!

Funny what players and their agents say when trying to get the biggest pay deal. Sad that the so called biggest club in the world either can't match the other contracts, or can't attract the very best.

Should stick his held down, work hard, get a few goals in the reserve games and win his place back.

If Maureen does let him go then it's guaranteed that Oscar/hazard will get probably from diving very shortly after that!!
Then his place would have been regained.

He has already won the Europa League?

Although he turned Utd down for the managers job ,it is amazing how much control Mourinho has over Moyes and Utd ,he is now selling them Chelsea rejects for 40 million and he knows about the internal thinking at Utd.  Mata is a great player on the ball ,but he is all left peg and has to play in the 10 role,he gives you next to nothing when you dont have the ball.

I dont think Mourinho will be the loser if this transfer goes through ,somehow.

Fair point Hunter but you could argue that a quality number 10 shouldn't have to do anything when his side don't have the ball. He's there to create things and win games, not track back to the edge of his own area. Mata proved in the last couple of seasons what a great player he is and United would be getting a great player.

The only problem is if RVP and Rooney go, who the hell is he going to create chances for? Welbeck? Laugh

This is a difficult one to evaluate for many reasons. Firstly Mourinho is a mug. Secondly Juan Mata was Chelsea's best player for his first  2 seasons and yet suddenly we are supposed to believe he doesnt do enough? I watched him at Valencia long enough and his style of play is just probably a bit too exciting for Mourinho to handle nowadays in his quest for the 1-0. £40 mill? You're have a laugh...almost as much of a laugh as Arsenal paying £40 mill for Ozil...maybe £40 mill is the new £25 mill? Where would he play at United? Out wide....that's not his favourite position or a change to a 4-3-3 with Rooney/RVP down the middle.

What is funnier Mourinho turning down Utd?

or Fergie and Charlton making Moyes the "chosen one" with the requesite European mangerial experience?

If it makes it less painless ,I will go along with the latter.

I would imagine it would give Jose great pleasure to turn down United but.... Jose will be hoping Moyes fails at United and he finally get the call.

Jose will not want to upset the Glaziers. Let's face it there is only PSG of the big clubs he hasn't already upset.

I Don't get all this anti  James Milner comment, he has played many hours for 2 managers that are certainly considered a couple of levels above English managers?

He has survived 3 seasons and is well thought of by team mates and how Villa would love him back.

Blubbing his eyes out 2 months after he'd agreed to go back to Chelsea you mean?

Not too sure how many more times I have to post it on here but the only way he'd have gone to the Mancs was if our job wasn't available.

I can assure you that came from a better source than reading something on the internet Wink

Moyes was getting the job long before Mourinho agreed to go to Chelsea. There was money for Moyes on here and rumours he was getting a long time before it was official.

José Mourinho is said to have broken down in tears at the news that David Moyes had been given the Manchester United job. The allegation is contained in a book by the respected Spanish journalist Diego Torres, who writes for El País.

In the book, Prepare to Lose: the Mourinho Era, Torres says the appointment "provoked an earthquake" and that Mourinho felt let down by Sir Alex Ferguson, who had recommended Moyes to the United board.

"Mourinho ... thought that Ferguson was, besides his ally, also his friend and godfather. He was convinced that they were tied by a relationship of genuine trust. He thought that his fabulous collection of titles constituted an 'endorsement' unreachable to any other contenders. When he knew that Ferguson had chosen Moyes, the Everton coach, he was struck by a terrible disbelief. Moyes hadn't won absolutely anything!"

Torres said that Mourinho was on the phone constantly to his sports agency Gestifute. "Mourinho wouldn't stop calling them. His 'interlocutors' had heard him sob loudly and they were spreading the word. The most feared man in the company was crushed."

I wonder if Man Utd can afford him.  All these reports that they were in the running for Ozil and Fabregas etc.  When push came to shove they didn't actually make the big signing.  The reality is that there are huge financial problems at Man Utd.  Maybe not on a Glasgow Rangers scale, but enough to cause a long period of pain.

Chelsea and Liverpool fans simply have no conception of how big a club United really are.

Having managed Real Madrid Jose knows any job other than United is a huge step down.

I agree Ian , can they afford to chuck 42 million for Mata and then NOT make the Champions League at the end of the season ? Would cost them close to £100 million all together for a failed season ? Loss of sponsorship , CL money , wages etc , it would all mount up.

Jose Mourinho has ridiculed claims he ‘sobbed loudly’ when David Moyes was handed the Manchester United post, instead insisting he always had his heart set on a Chelsea return.

In his book Prepare to Lose: the Mourinho Era, respected El Pais journalist Diego Torres said Mourinho had felt betrayed when he was overlooked in the English champions’ search for a new manager.

But ahead of Sunday’s visit of Manchester United, the Portuguese manager has refuted the suggestions and insists he wanted the Blues’ job from the outset.

"I think the person who wrote that book shouldn't write books. He should write books for kids using his imagination," Mourinho said.

"I am where I want to be. I want to go nowhere else. I have the job I want to have, I don't have another job.

"When I left Porto I wanted to come to England because at that time there was no Chelsea, I had no emotional connections with any club.

"When I left Chelsea I wanted only Italy or Spain, not another English club.

"After Real Madrid I wanted England and if possible, Chelsea. It's the only time I've said this country and this specific club.

"If not Chelsea then I'd have been in England at another club, but when the door at my club opened for me, I had the job I wanted to have."

Ferguson announced his retirement on May 8 last year with Moyes' appointment confirmed the following day, while Mourinho was named Chelsea manager for the second time on June 3.

"I knew a couple of weeks before the announcement because my friend (Ferguson) was very nice to me and trusted me completely," Mourinho said.

Maybe thats Jose/Romans plan. Sell them Mata to strenghten United against Arsenal and City and if they fail to make the CL it would financially cripple them for the next few years :)
