"Plenty if other players in the Premier league that were average in SPL - Hoolahan, Ruddy, Speroni etc"
If they're your best examples then you're quite clearly struggling! Hoolahan was barely in the SPL for 6 months, Ruddy did well in his one season there and Speroni played there about 10 years ago! |

I didn't say English football was brilliant,
but I know enough to be able to make an honest comparison as to where the likes of hibs and thistle would be competitive. And that would be the conference. |

where they not young players in Scotland, so playing around better players in England and naturally maturing they are likely to improve?

Please google inverness caleys summer signings.
They where over the moon to pick up conference and conference north players. Caley are 2nd in the SPFL. I rest my case your honour. |

I actually think thistle would do OK in the conference if they got a decent target man

Connor Sammon was a decent player and some thought he would be better than David Goodwillie .
Sone Aluko was a class act ...Juventus never gave him a contract and he payed his own transfer fee to come to Ibrox was a top talent ...even at Aberdeen he showed touches of real class ,burke ,sammon ,goodwillie were all very good players when they left Scotland . |

They were decent players I dont know about 'very good'.
Do you agree these are a better standard of player than coming out of the conferece. Jeepers I just looked at Hull City and that takes the biscuit for decent SPL players. |

what players have come from the conference and done well in Scotland ?
Blackpool were a EPL side ,still on parashoot munee ,60+m for getting into the EPL and 30M when they left (over 3 years?) Scotland can not compete with the championship player values and wages anymore due to the obscene amounts of TV munee ... all they can do is put more munee into grassroots level but the truth is there are too many options for youngsters now and there is simply not enough kids competing for the places ....so the level will keep dropping for the foreseeable future. Charlie Adam ...was an average player in Scotland and turned into a decent player for Blackpool in the championship and EPL . great left foot .....could not tackle a bag o chips ....has made an absolute fortune ![]() |

I think you're missing my point completely JamDav, i wasn't saying that the entire SPL is on a par with the conference. I was saying that some of the poorest players in it are conference standard.
When complete nobodies in the lower leagues in England like McKay, Higdon and McGinn can go to the SPL and score week in week out then that shows you the level up there. So if players from leagues one and two in England can flourish there then it stands to reason that the lowest level players would be conference standard. And for every player who's come down south and done well there are more that have gone the other way. Stokes did nothing in England, Hooper came from Scunthorpe, Commons was an average championship player with Derby. Matthews came from Cardiff. Richie Foran played for Southend and Darlington, John Sutton played for Wycombe, these are all regular SPL players. You say Aberdeen are championship standard yet their regulars include Scott Vernon who played for Southend and Colchester, Greg Wylde who couldn't get a game at Bolton, Michael Hector who was at Cheltenham last year and Calvin Zola who signed from Burton Albion! Yeah they're really good!! |

Dean Brill - signed from Luton David Raven - Tranmere Gary Warren - Newport County James Vincent - Kidderminster Ross Draper - Macclesfield Richie Foran - Darlington Billy McKay - Northampton This lot are 2nd in the SPL! |
