During injury time the ref wasted a good 20 secs by delaying a Celtic throw-in from the left because he wanted to speak to a Shakhtar player for holding in the box. If he spots the potential fouling in the box then why not just let the play continue then blow for a penalty? Instead he plays it safe and actually costs Celtic valuable time because those 20 secs never got added on.

You'd expect Celtic to get at least 2 against them at home. The only problem is whether their defence can keep a clean sheet. So dodgy.

as we've seen up in scotland in previous years, it takes a strong ref to book a celtic diver and an even stronger ref to keep turning down the constant penalty appeals. it will all depend on the ref in the return game. |

Lived in Kazakhstan until the start of last month so saw some footy down that way. The league is like the country itself, a bit unknown to outsiders, but fast improving and now has 2 or 3 teams not far off the quality of those from Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary. i.e. they'll never trouble the big guns, but are capable of springing surprises against teams from second ranking countries. Laid Celtic for a tenner tonight and won't be betting against Shakter to qualify. Celtic are probably slight favourites to do it, but Karagandy have some advantages, it's usual for them to do long distance travel for football games and they are in the middle of their season and therefore at their peak of match fitness.
