I'd say it's not a great time to be taking over at United.
Not withstanding all the inevitable shockwaves that Ferguson's departure will bring you have the likes of Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Carrick and Van Persie into their 30's now and in some cases injury prone. Then you've got the likes of Nani, Valencia and Young who haven't convinced for a while plus Rooney possibly being on the way out. They're always going to be in the running for the big trophies without a doubt but I'd say par would be top 3 finishes for now. |

The wingers certainly need to be sorted out - although, on the upside, you could say that they contributed relatively little to Man U's success this season, so any improvement in the form of the wingers would be an asset. Valencia's due a poor season, although there'd be concern if he carried on that poor form into next year. Nani's almost certainly on his way out, but he hasn't consistently produced for some time in any case.
Carrick and VP should be good for several more seasons, and there are some decent defenders coming through to replace the likes of Ferdinand and Vidic - Phil Jones looks good, for example. If it comes to securing Champions League football, there's more than enough quality in the youngsters to finish in the top three/four. Winning the Prem or (particularly) Champs League again will be difficult though. |

This may have already been posted. But this is what David Gill said in a statement :-
"In Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex we got in managers who got involved in all aspects of the club. That degree of loyalty is crucial to the success of Manchester United. He (the next manager) needs the required football experience in terms of domestic and European requirements, so it is a small pool." Can someone explain to me how Moyes fits the bolded part? |

Not sure that worked out too badly for them Texas. In return for pushing everybody else into war and then losing, they got America spending its immense resources rebuilding their country. It was the likes of Britain who got bankrupted by WWII, not Germany!!
I'm not sure Moyes would have such a positive long-term effect on Manu U, but who knows.. |

Quite a few of us thought the announcement would be done and dusted by now, so it's inevitable that the price drifts. However, many sources (Telegraph, TalkSport) are still talking about it as being signed and sealed, so I suspect it will happen. Still hoping this means there's some last-minute haggling with Real Madrid though...

Yeah, but we all know what Stalin said about statistics, Viva. Germany may well employ the same logic if it's in the country's long-term interests. As a method of destroying its big rivals in Europe and making Germany the top dog, the WWII strategy paid off handsomely!!
