Why Love the Green? The Glazers love penny-pinchers. They're not really interested in winning things and making Man U a world force - Fergie's success has been a welcome bonus to them, but it hasn't come from the Glazers putting huge amounts of money behind the club. At this point, the prospect of taking on somebody who won't want to spend big, and who can guide a decent squad to a Top3/4 finish every year, will appeal to the Glazers. They can gradually (very gradually) pay off the debt, and in the meantime, they can carry on paying themselves significant personal cheques every year. With the amount of new money coming into English football over the next season or two, a safe choice like Moyes will allow them to stay afloat without causing them too many headaches.

If this was just today you could argue it was people following the money for Moyes. But there were large sums backing him 2-3 days ago, that's not just people taking a gamble, they must've known something as it wasn't even public knowledge then that Fergie was going.

I completely agree with biscuit. I've had a bet on this £100 lay on Jose at 5.3 just purely following the money. 10k wanting to back moyes at 1.4 is not mug money imo

The Everton boss has agreed to move to Old Trafford and will join the club at the end of the season. Moyes' future has been in doubt for several months, after his refusal to sign a new deal on Merseyside and, following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, the Red Devils have acted quickly to land the former Preston chief. The Scot has been at Goodison Park for 11 years but has only an FA Cup runners-up medal, from 2009, to his name and has no experience in the Champions League proper. Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho had been stongly linked to the post but it appears the board at Old Trafford have decided the 50-year-old former Celtic defender is the right man to lead the club forward. |

Obviously not. Although if it isn't, it seems very strange that Moyes is poncing around on the road to Chelsea rather than in a room thrashing out the final deal. Until the ink's on the contract, there's always room for somebody else to crash the party - as in United's signing of Roy Keane!
