Anyone backing Moyes at odds on is very brave. It wouldn't surprise me if the Glazers shocked all with who they decide to appoint!

You have to bear in mind though that the Glazers probably know fck all and will be most likely appointing whoever Fergie suggests.

But Utd is a massive global business. Sponsors, banks etc. Can you imagine the announcement to the markets. David Who?

Just cant see it myself.

I dont see how it can be Mourinho he's got a long-term contract and he cant resign and then just walk into another club the next day. United have to agree compensation and there's nothing to suggest there's been any talk between them.

For United to announce that they are making an appointment in next 48 hours (pressure from Shareholders) tells me that it must be someone "easily accessible".

He's the right appointment.......needs long contract, secures position in terms of players. I'll be here when you lot are long gone.

The fact that the new manager will be announced within 48 hours plays in with the idea that it's Moyes. To be making the announcement that soon means that the ink will pretty much have to be down on the contract by now, and that would co-incide with the sudden rush of money for Moyes over the last couple of days.

I'd like Jose to be there, but he'll demand a sizeable pot to invest before signing up. Moyes, on the other hand, would be happy to try and make a little go a long way, and that'll really appeal to the Glazers.

Can anyone give any reasons why Moyes is a good appointment?

n88uk, in fairness to Moyes, he consistently comes fifth with a team that lack the quality of the Man U side. What he could do with a better squad is a huge question.

Of course. You dont say to shareholders "were making an appointment in next 48 hours" and then you havent even started dialogue with candidates owner who may want 20million compensation or more. You wouldnt have announced that unless that was already agreed and then we'd know as the Spanish rags would have it on the front pages.

Its Moyes all the way :)

Basically what you are saying is Moyes is a yes man. Great.

Moyes will be up for the sack within a year. Lay us to win the title. We won't win it under Moyes.

The rumour is "they will have to resign from their job" - is Moyes not out of contract in the summer and if so why does he has to resign?

does look like moyes now, absoloute disastrous appointment if so imo, but thatl just mean chelsea will dominate for years

Interesting rumour Clay. Where did you hear that?   Moyes certainly won't have to resign, you're right.

I suspect the appointment was made before Fergusen retired.

It won't be Mourinho - that is for sure! Lacks all the stability that United as a club/business crave.

Any success in Europe will have to be based on consistent Premiership position (top 4), Moyes basically guarantees that, question is can he "build" a great team? Seems better equipped than anyone else right now.

If it was me - I'd appoint Moyes - unspectacular choice but with the potential to grow into the job. Who else fits the criteria?!!

Rafael Benítez the next manu this will stunt the football world lol

But Moyes is a huge gamble. You are taking a risk on a guy completely unproven at the top level of management. A ridiculous thing for Man Utd to do given they have options of the majority of the worlds managers.

The Glazers just might like the fact Moyes can bring in players reasonably cheaply and prove to be worth more? Discuss

Wallflower, you think Man U wouldn't make the Top 4 under Jose????   He'd get them well drilled and make them hard to beat in key matches. That alone ought to be worth quite a bit.

Moyes could be a good appointment. Then again, he might struggle to command respect, and a bad start to the season (he became famous for those at Everton!) could see the pressure on him becoming immense. For me, Jose would be the safe bet whereas Moyes would be a massive gamble - the team certainly wouldn't be guaranteed a Top 4 finish with Moyes in charge, as it could all go spectacularly wrong.

I'm out - happy enough (I think) nice green on Moyes - could be train to 1.2 / 1.25 by noon, if os, I'll lay a bit in case there is a shock announcement (don't see it but you never know).

Also Ferguson staying on, mentoring Moyes a bit - two Scots.

Ferguson was always going to stay on, that don't mean anything.
By:

When: 08 May 13 11:01
The mentor angle is another tick for Moyes though. Sir Alex can still involve himself in the management to a certain extent, and can wind down gradually.

Moyes is a massive gamble. I personally don't think he has the personality required for the job. Football has changed these days, there are a lot more ego's around. Moyes has never managed any big players, it's pure guesswork whether he can handle it. The problem is, Man Utd have no need to take such a massive risk.

I'm ruling out Mourinho not on managerial ability - but on personality and his craving of the limelight. He's getting increasingly erratic. He is not one for the long haul.

Man Utd remind me of Pittsburgh Steelers in NFL - based on history appoint thinking of ten years or so.

Agree with everyone whos against it being Mourinho, hes not someone around for the longterm and working under the glare of SAF has surely got to be enough to put him off even thinking about it. As for Moyes and egos, most of the united team are usually VERY young and come through the ranks, with the addition that SAF will still be around and the same backroom staff, I just cant see it being a problem.
