A few people acting on here like Bale is some kind of youngster compared to Messi and Ronaldo.
He is 24 this year, he is only two years younger than Messi. Less of an gap than between Ronaldo and Messi. |

never understand people dismissing strikers as "only" being finishers.
radamel falcao's been scored at the rate of about 0.8 goals per game over nearly five years. what more do you want? it's like having a blinding night with a top quality hooker, then saying "yeah, but she didn't do the housework before she left." |

Of topic but this is allegedly Bale's mum who was spotted in court

im not dismissing falcao at all, he is top player , only with comparison to van persil duch one is better overall where similar at the finishing , shame he was injuried for so much time in his career...
van persie has bit of zidane and bit of van basten in him, doing what is needed to win match |

If your star player is someone who only scores goals then you have to set up the whole team to provide service for them and it becomes quite predictable for the opposition to read. Generally teams with a lethal goalscorer up front who contributes nothing much else other than the goals , are not very successful .Teams who sell these players and don't replace them like for like tend to improve rather than decline .Teams who are very good that don't have one of these 'natural goslscorers' do not actually get better when they buy one. |

If Bale had a right foot he'd be comparable with Ronaldo but not Messi
|

No if they are amongst the best in the world at it they will score plenty still (individually), but when they don't score the ball is lost and a goal at the other end becomes a possibilty. And on the days when they are shut out by defenders then that will usually be a draw or a defeat
Teams who have a player up front that scores more than 50% of their goals will score fewer goals overall. Look at United with Van Nistlerooy, Uniteds best finisher ever i would say . He was there 5 years and they won 1 title and 1 FA Cup (which is probably as poor a 5 years as they've had in the last 20 odd years) Ian Wright was Arsenal's best finisher , but Arsenal as a team struggled to score anywhere near enough goals to be competitive in the Title Race |

It's a bit naughty to say Walcott is better than Bale.

Oh my "Bale up there with Ronaldo and Messi" I suppose all 3 have kind of the same goals to games ratio
|
|
By:
There are example both ways , and Muller is the best one . But the way pundits talk up the necessity of 'a 20 goal a season man' if that was true the example would all be one way, when , if anything, there are more examples of teams improving without the goalscorer or declining when they acquire one .
Hasselbaink had a season with Atletico Madrid and almost finished top scorer in La Liga . They were relegated! |
|
By:
That means nothing other than goalscorers cant make a difference if the rest of the team is not good enough.
If teams have someone that does nothing but score then they need to have others who will create etc. Goalscorers can help teams win if the team is balanced and provides for them. |

using the logic used on here both messi and ronaldo must do something in the world cup to be thought of as a true great.
has messi even scored at a world cup yet. |
|
By:

|
By:
why strange.
most of the comparisions are based on goals and winning things. the world cup is the greatest prize in football and both of the worlds top two players have at this moment in time done very little when playing at the world cup. messi has not even scored at the finals. |
|
By:
Well Messi has scored at the WC, but the debate is about Gareth Bale compared to Messi and Ronaldo which has nothing at all to do with World Cup performances really.

The joke in soccer is that Barcelona without Messi is Spain, but that Messi without Barcelona is lost.

Typical sh1te from Redknapp.
Dead right, and there's only one Ronaldo and one Messi. Neither are plural, and if they were, they wouldn't need an apostrophe. ![]() |

we're not talking about a 1 in 2 man with falcao. we're talking about a 4 in 5 man.

Nah, if you want to start another thread about it I shall oblige but not on this one.

some of the arguments when they want to bring international football into it are a joke.
it's a bit like saying george best was no good because norther ireland were carp. or cruyff was useless because holland never won a world cup. |

By:
I see it like this:
No-one is as good as Messi - he's the best footballer there has ever been. Ronaldo is a special player, certainly the next best in the world. Bale could be third best, but unfortunately playing inside Dempsey |

Unbelievable Jeff
![]() If I was Spurs chairman Daniel Levy I'd be a worried man now because Gareth Bale is playing too well, for both club and country. We already know that Bale is held in high regard by some of Europe's biggest clubs and recent stellar displays have put him firmly back in the shop window. His goal in Wales' 2-1 friendly victory over Austria was his 17th in all competitions this season and came swiftly after those two superb strikes in the Premier League, against Norwich and West Brom. Gareth Bale: can drag his Spurs team-mates into the Champions League, says Jeff Gareth Bale: can drag his Spurs team-mates into the Champions League, says Jeff I just worry, from Spurs' point of view, that an offer might come along in the summer that they can't refuse. I heard Jamie Redknapp say on Super Sunday that Bale is 'absolutely world class', that he's 'as good as Ronaldo'. What Bale's got that Ronaldo hasn't is incredible strength and power. Ronaldo is quick but when Bale gets up a head of steam, there's no stopping him. I don't often disagree with Jamie, but I think it's got to the stage where you can say that Bale is better than Ronaldo because he's simply unplayable. That's not to denigrate Ronaldo, who has got all the tricks and dynamite in his boots - but so has Bale. What Bale's got that Ronaldo hasn't is incredible strength and power; Ronaldo is quick but when Bale gets up a head of steam, there's no stopping him. I'd love to know who the fastest player in the Premier League is if it's not Bale. He's adaptable, too - he can play wide or down the middle. If you want him to do a job defensively, he can do that as well. Wales fans won't thank me for saying it but it's such a shame that we are unlikely to ever see him play in a major tournament. It's the 'George Best syndrome' all over again: Bale is one of the best players in the world and as much as I'd love to see him at a World Cup, despite his best efforts, it's not going to happen. I was in Portugal this week and I saw Ronaldo score against Ecuador and it was a fine goal, but I'm hard pushed to think of another player in Europe (aside from Lionel Messi) who gives you the all-round quality that Bale gives Spurs. He's the reason why Spurs are where they are now - fourth in the Premier League - and he's the one who could drive them on to a Champions League place, which is the minimum Spurs will need to keep him. I think Jeff is having a joke with the betfair forum ![]() |
