He'd gone when Ferguson sold him to be honest. He was playing his football 10 yards deeper than he'd ever done before. The final straw was the cup match with Arsenal.
It makes his time at the top shorter than Lampard but I thought by "better" we meant in terms of quality. |

only 5 months tho??? then what
|

A really nice gesture.
However, and a genuine question...does this salary include image rights which are often a separate thing to avoid income tax. Does it also include the many, many sponsorship deals which he is sure to accrue in Gay Pareee? BTW, isn't his son signing youth terms with a London club round about now? Eurostar will be taking a hammering I assume. |

The post by Edward at 20.58 is the gayest post i've ever read, if you ARE a bloke talking like some dizzy Essex bird from a reality tv program you don't deserve to have any opinion on football, even the diluted "manish" version we have today. Go and watch some netball.

y did he have to tell us he was giving money to charity? attention seeking fu ck
|
|
By:
they asked him about it the club wanted to make suyre the press knew etc etc
fricken hell its a press conference and you discuss contratcs and stuff do you want him to keep it secret and do his damdest to not tell any one whats the fckin issue with him telling us about his charity work |

A lot of jealousy towards Beckham, such a cynical nation. Fantastic footballer, great ambassador and fantastic gesture. Hopefully other rich celebrities will follow suit.
|
|
By:
Rich celebrity. If he were to die tomorrow that would be a pretty apt engraving on his tombstone.
|
|
By:
all credit to him
|
|
By:
If you think the worse of him just doing it for publicity (even thought he gets enough),
the Children s Charity must be delighted since they are getting much needed funds and it raises the charity's profile, which will lead to more donations. It's good to know that not all footballers are scumbags. |
|
By:
how do we know other rich celebs haven't done similar? maybe they don't want it to be public knowledge? he should have been a bit more humble about it and let people find out about it another way, spilling the beans within a few minutes just stinks of publicity stunt

Surely giving this money away offsets any tax he would pay on other earnings?
Not the greatest player that's played the game, but has the best PR/marketing in world football. |
|
By:
By giving his wages to charity it means he qualifies for tax breaks on his other earnings.
ie its the most profitable (for him) way of being paid, plus it means he looks like a saint AND as an added bonus the bankrupt French state earn nothing from the millions he is being paid. What a guy! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
whatever he does will be wrong
nice guy underneath |
|

Anyone saying anything negative about this is probably a clown. Beckham loves publicity, who cares. The boy is a legend and the deed benefits charity whatever way you wish to twist it.
My only issue with Becks is his choice of wife. Could have done significantly better...even in the spice girls. |

"By giving his wages to charity it means he qualifies for tax breaks on his other earnings.
ie its the most profitable (for him) way of being paid" Complete and utter rubbish of course unless there's some sort of tax offset multiplier involved, which of would never exist. |

The man in one stroke has likely given more to charity than ever betfair forumite will in their life, combined, x 100, and gets crap for it.
The betfair football forum: if bitterness and anger was a fuel, you could run a power station on it :) |

What a guy! What is the source for this gibberish? I strongly doubt someone as media savvy and image conscious as Beckham would be silly enough to use this as a way to get paid more effectively...it would get out very sharply and his image would suffer for it. In case you had not noticed he values the whole saint David thing. I'm sure he's got plans about what he wants to do after football after his involvement in the Olympics...whilst you're thinking one step ahead he's probably thinking three. |
|
By:
it's all relative, he's giving away a small percentage of his earnings for the next 5 months that will amount to less than 1% of his lifetime income. A nice gesture but he was extremely quick to tell everybody about it

So what?

Just Checking you have always been all too ready to get on your knees in front of Beckham, and you clearly have no idea about tax whatsoever. As an eminent professor of French tax law I can assure you that Beckham has conned you.
As for you R0y, you're on a Beckham fred with your lubed-up ass cheeks parted quicker than Ken gets on a fred about Kevin Pullein |

We'll see my friend...proof will be in the pudding as they say.

"Just Checking you have always been all too ready to get on your knees in front of Beckham"?
Really? That comes as a big surprise to me, given I'm not actually a fan of Beckham (but I don't hate him either), a Man U fan, an LA Galaxy fan, or even a PSG fan. C'est pas vrai. Still, assert complete b0ll0x away, the truth doesn't seem to get in the way of things! |

This guy was on a few hundred a week till a few weeks back and prob hasnt even earned the money needed yet giving it away!! http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/296053/Raheem-Sterling-pays-for-village-kids-to-go-to-school/

Dr Cypionate, you can't bring up examples like that! this is Becks we're talking about, he's a god and a saint
|
|
By:
People who bring up other charitable acts to try and knock another have serious issues.
Enough time wasted with the plebs, enjoy you bitterness. |
|
By:
it's all about putting things in perspective, Beck's gave up a tiny fraction of his income and is quick to tell everybody about it. Sterling gave away a much bigger percentage of his income, didn't publicise it at the time but it's come out in the papers. I blame that witch he's married to for all this publicity malarkey

did someone say lampard better than becks???....they didnt say that did they??..pmsl. obviously a silly chelsea fan clinging on. clown

Giving around £5m to childrens charities and people still having a dig at him. Is it bitterness or jealousy or both?

What a guy! Has he given up some of his image rights to PSG? No, the share given to the club only involves contracts signed after the player has put pen to paper on a longer term contract. In practice, Beckham will continue to receive all of the advertising earnings on his contracts with H and M, Adidas and Samsung but will give to PSG half of any contract he may sign after the five month contract is up, French clubs negotiate 50% of players image rights for a higher salary to the player. In France, Yohan Gourcuff negotiated such a contract when he joined Lyon, which was disastrous for the club, who paid him an enormous salary (480,000 euros a month) in the expectation of advertising returns which never materialised. Are there any tax implications for his plan to donate all his salary to charity? "He'll certainly pay a bit less tax but it (the donation) is above all a good PR stunt," said Hocquemiller. "He's arriving in a country in a financial crisis and this is how he is trying to silence his detractors." "Whatever happens and taking into account his additional revenue sources in his overall earnings he,Beckham, certainly won't be playing for free at PSG." |
