Totally agree Berto, Stewart Robson being one of the rare exceptions.

Very eloquent Berto. Agree with what you've said totally. Often use the previews (and even reviews) to determine where there may be value once the sheep have been led away by these "experts".

yes the ex-players who make it to a position of regular media employment are all the ones with the least to say but have a chummy way about them. They are high-level bluffers : and the best can pick up £10k a week year in year out from the BBC.

By:
even for telly their pay is ridiculous - if they were singing and dancing their arses of well maybe - but they're just 'some blokes having a chat' - and they get paid like their Tom Cruise

By:
There are dozens of reasons why I no longer attend football matches but the main one is that I am forced to pay for a seat and then forced to stand if I want to see any of the game. Give people a choice for Gods sake, bring back terracing or force people to sit down. It must be safer for people to stand on a terrace than between rows of seats.

when bbc has golf on they often supply a rules expert who can keep the commentators informed of what is happening
last night , on match of the day, 2 highly paid experts told us kompany should not have been sent off, yet they showed replays of him jumping at the ball with both feet off the ground, which, we have previously been told, is a sending off offence so if little johnny is playing 5 a side tonite and he jumps in 2 footed, as long as one foot is behind the other he will be ok ? or perhaps these highly paid experts can start sticking to the rules, instead of making up rules as they go along |

The utter childishness of 95% of participants, spectators commentators and club officials.
The pomposity of their prononcements and their ill-informed rants. The fact that some people still think these imbeciles are role-models. The belief that 'passion' is an excuse for this childishness and worse, will trump tactical nous, athleticism, skill and reasoned debate. ....for starters..... |

Agree with most of the above, especially illiterate ill-informed pundits who only get media jobs because they were "characters" during their playing days (eg, Merson, Savage, Collymore, Redknapp).
Cheating on so many levels make the game virtually unwatchable. Players who think that doing a couple of hours training before pi$$ing off to a nightclub is sufficient to make them a professional sportsman. A million miles away from the 24 hour-a-day athletes who get a fraction of the rewards or recognition in their pursuit of sporting excellence (eg, Tony McCoy, Johnny Wilkinson, Paula Radcliffe, Chris Hoy etc). But the main reason I've only been to one club match in the past seven years (which again reminded me why I stopped going), is the fans. Drunken, foul-mouthed, agressive neanderthals. Not all admittedly, but probably the majority are deeply unpleasant to have to travel with/sit next to. Intimidating, menacing and a sense that they would break into violence at minimum provocation. Fck 'em. |

I hate:
Foreign owners who have no real interest in success on the field (I'm looking at you Stan )Incompetent referees No goal line technology Exorbitant ticket prices (again, looking at my own club, although they are hardly alone) The increased greed of footballers Jamie redknapp |

The lax enforcement of rules that rewards lumpen clods and punishes talent. There's this attitude that strict enforcement kills the game, which is totally backward. Enforce the laws and the players will learn to stop fouling. I'm sick of the phrase, "for me, there was nothing in that" from commentators. I'm fed up with seeing defenders beaten on the edge of the box and then chasing back, reaching out and killing the attackers momentum just enough for the defence to get back. That split second is the difference between being in on goal and the attack petering out. It's a no-brainer, it's illegal to use your arms to disrupt the opponent if you are not level and competing for space on the ball. Punish it, and you will get real football again. Niggly little fouls like that are endemic and they kill the game, yet any ref who applies the law is likely to get death threats.

The introduction of the word "Simulation" by spineless, fawning commentators and pundits to describe diving, or as it is called in all other forms on earth "Cheating"

Players wages is my biggest dislike, absolutely boils my p1ss to see rank average players stealing a living, getting paid 30/40k a week. When I first started going to games in the 80's you could interact with players, they would live in the same street as you, go in the boozers and you could have a bit of crack on with them, these days footballers are so far out of touch with reality it's scary.
I long for the day when the football bubble bursts and SKY TV pull out and it will one day. |

90% of the presenters on Talk****, has there ever been such a collection of imbeciles under one banner ?

By:
Cheating by players and officials who allow it to go on because it has become normal, eg pulling shirts and obstruction with no intention to play the ball.
|
|
By:
Add timewasting by using substitues in the last 5 minutes for no other reason but to interrupt play.
|
|
By:
Free kicks in atacking areas sometimes takes over a minute to take due to wall not retreating 10 yards etc yet referees never seem to add time on for it.

By:
Totally agree with treetop and fife. Both relatively trivial but incredibly annoying.

The loans system. What other team sport would tolerate this nonsense ?
"Run that by me again. He plays for you but he's not your player ?" |
|
By:
Another gripe for me is watching grown men falling all over each other kissing and cuddling and dancing in the corner when one of them scores a goal. Let them celebrate by all means but let the opposition kick off straight away and score against only a couple of defenders and all that would soon stop !

teams like Manchester united throwing large fees at the 'smaller' premier league clubs to force a sale and making the premier league weaker as a result.
berbatov, RVP, Ferdinand, rooney, Valencia, smalling, jones, just to name a few in the current squad. |

i think most of the points have been covered, and i agree with many of them...
i will add, referees not giving interviews to explain their decisions after matches, the managers have to do it, so why not the refs ??? penalty shootouts...if they must use them to decide games, then surely it should be 11 v 11, rather than just picking 5 each, after all, its a team game isnt it, not a 5 a side game... the distribution of money in football from sky etc...why should there be such a discrepancy between the premier to league 2...especially when you think that southend and port vale, to name but 2 teams, nearly went out of business for owing such paltry sums around the 200k mark...yes, not even wayne rooneys weekly wage packet... there are probably many more to add... anyway, rant over ![]() |

How easy it now is for sh!tty teams and players to play at Wembley. There should be only 5 ways to play at wembley. 1. Full International 2. FA Cup Final 3. League Cup Final 4. Charity Shield 5 Non League Cup Final.
None of this nonsense of Semi Finals and Play Offs here. |

Fat blokes wearing football shirts.

Have to say i agree with that. Wembley should be the Holy grail of football again. |

Needing one more goal in a match and because team A are winning they spend the last 5 mins running into the corner when they have ample opportunity to try and score another to make, not only the game safe, but to make my bet a winning one

I hate Managers who can not come out and admit what the rest of the world has seen , a blatant dive for e.g or a bad tackle , I hate commentators like that pair of clowns at the Arsenal game on sunday who even after seeing the defender grab the forward , move his hands down to his middle and rugby tackle him , all in slow motion just so we can see for certain comes out with the classic line ' That's a controversial decision ' why is it? It would have been nice for them to actually explain why it was controversial.
I hate the fact that I can go see Iron Maiden perform for two hours in London with the best seats knowing it's going to be the best concert ever with support band for £50 yet get asked more to go see a random footie game which is just 'another' game on a all year round schedule it seems to be. I hate the fact that footie is now especially in this country will never see the likes of the 70's league tables where you could have teams like derby coming through and winning the league or Villa who get a great squad and win or best of all Nott's Forest. Those days are long gone now , same clubs every year ( Man city I do appreciate ) but it took a billionaire to come in , the days of a brilliant squad developing and challenging is over. I hate the fact that teams nowadays ( Villa you are a disgrace ) would sooner rest there players for a Cup semi final just to play them on a Sat league game because Sky have made the money to stay in the Premiership the be all and end all for 80% of the teams competing. I hate the fact that ( Nasri you are a disgrace ) players can go down ( These are grown men don't forget ) and scream with pain etched onto there faces the like you should never see , the like that men who get limbs blown off in wars would never do , get up 20 secs later as if nothing has happened AND NOBODY BATS AN EYE! Nothing is said , nothing is done , nobody mentions it in interviews , it is never brought up at the interval , the players are never questioned NOTHING! as if it's the most natural thing in the world to do. |

i'm all for players earning millions ,even billions ..... but you have to remember if you don't have that system then you need to reduce their pay and also music moguls, film stars, rock singers, directors, blah blah and at the same time hike up the salaries of toilet attendants ,refuse collectors and road workers .

pumpy , the rules could be changed regarding transfers ...which i think would be beneficial ,it's certainly ridiculous at the moment how billionaires can just buy a club .... a bit like playing monopoly without the dice throwing .#
