The Greeks and paying tax...The shocking scale of tax dodging in Greece was laid bare yesterday in a report showing that professionals are among the worst offenders. The study found that self-employed Greeks evaded a staggering £22.4billion of tax in 2009 – almost half the size of the country’s deficit in 2008 and a third of the shortfall in 2009.The chief offenders were doctors, engineers, private tutors, accountants, people in financial services and lawyers, according to the report by economists at Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. It came as Greek ministers held talks with the troika of inspectors from the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund over its emergency aid.
Sounds like our Tory Government, getting rid of taxes they didn't like paying.

agaz i have to say your English is pretty impressive for a Greek bloke. You speak (or write) better English than about 90% of the English people on this forum.
Thanks for the good words, but my English is rather average. Having an MSc from the University of Manchester might add to my qualifications, but not as much as I hoped. Wasted money

agaz, if you think accountants, bankers and lawyers work endless hours or are avoiding taxes as some sort of protest against politicians you must be mad. They don't pay any tax because they want to keep all of their money.
I think the leftist ideology of the last 30 years that mainly governed Greece turned us into a soviet type democracy of big government business and destroyed any real investments coming and creating wealth. Every major investment is always blocked in courts by leftists and environmentalists with far-left agendas.
So yeah, any leftist loon can blame the financial industry for cheating on taxes and making a situation worse, but in reality most people right now have to avoid taxes to survive. Almost 1 million jobs were lost in the private sector the last few years. It's only getting worse.
We are having a big issue over here with the firing of only 2,000 public servants, the left party in the government coalition is threatening to drop their support if they fire anyone.
And at the same time the same the main leftist opposition party are making promises that whoever is fired from the public sector will be re-hired once they get in power. Pure madness !!!!!!

shall they permit to withdraw money from bf after 5 dec.?

If a Greek resident is discussing how to use betfair on a public forum then they are not very smart. Hopefully the smart ones will have acted months ago as this is not new news, no way was it ever going to be viable for betfair to continue to openly operate in Greece.

Ι have a bank account in USA...Do you know if this will work? Or do I have to pay tax to USA for my winnings...Also I am leaving for Scotland for vacation on Thursday for 1 week...Any idea of what can I do there? Is it easy to open a bank account there?
IRS will definitely tax you if they even let you withdraw gambling winnings, I cant be sure but I think that unless you make your bets in Nevada or Antlantic city New Jersey then the us govt will not be happy
