Wouldn't make my top 30 of all all time
1) it was a hit and hope type of goal.
2) It was a friendly
3) Hart was 20 yards from goal (open net)
4) First choice defence not present.

His goal against Italy was a back to goal, goal, could have gone anywhere, not intentional, basically another hit and hope, just much closer. Not to mention it was a group match in a group in which Italy failed to progress with the mighty Denmark and Bulgaria in alongside them, that's how good they were then.
He was actually close to becoming an Arsenal player way back in 2000, came to the training ground, posed with the shirt, but rejected the move after Wenger asked him to join in training - as part of a trial, he turned it down and went to Ajax. Thankfully, he would got in Henry and Bergkamps' way - real quality. |

not the case,a footballer rarely has to look at the goal,it is instinctive a natural abilty nothing to do with hit and hope

He was adle to know almost exactly where the defence were. This is something instinctive that a lot of very good players have.Players have a natural feel for this

If he tried that 100 times - how many times do you think he'd score it - I would hazard a guess at ONE. He's a fraud who wouldn't get into anyone's first choice 11 in the last 12 years, his record in Italy is good because it's a pedestrian league, he couldn't cut it at Barca where they shipped him out after a year and now he hides in the doldrums of French football. |

Yes that is the point,maybe he could do it again and maybe not.But the fact remains that very few players could do this and of those few an even smaller percentage would successfully do it

The best 'big man' in the game, and his generation, by a distance. Clubs pay a lot of money for quality big men. Hell, some clubs pay massive money for a sh1t 'big man' up front. He wins the league everywhere he goes. If you sign him...you win the league. It's almost a given. |

The goal itself is beyond reproach...to call it a hit and hope is nothing but fishery
I can't think of another elite player who could have pulled that off or even had the ego to attempt it (that's not to say there isnt). Wow. But as Mes says, with ability like that we should be talking about an all time great. Instead he's like an global le tiss. Scores a cracker every now and then and feeds his cult followers. |

As an arsenal fan, I'm disappointed in your eye for a player if you think he's in the top 20 of the last 12 years - not only that, I or shall I say we, could both name a few Arsenal players of years gone by above and beyond anything Ibra's so called talent has produced. And we're just one club. Worst case senario there was one of those...'what a goal that would have been moments'. What I liked best about it is once hart's **** up you can see his mind working, he has a perfect picture of the situation and every single detail...the elevation required..the defenders the lot. Wonder goal. |

He's a bit like Cantona was, bit of an image, struts around, looking a bit moody, pops up with the odd wonder strike, lucky or not, and then he has googly eyed onlookers pretending to know about football - salivating over his every move. The thing is mesmerised, there have been loads of great volleys and overhead kicks over the years, Crouch as you say, Scholes got one at Villa, Shearer for Newcastle, Rooney etc etc, but because this goal was so unique, never been seen before, it has a rightful claim to be one of the best goals.
