rob the problem is that if they refund you they have to take from other ppls accounts money, which is wrong cause according to the T&Cs they won these money legally.

Im sure they could refund me themselves not from other people  in this case. Its really angered me. I  can obviously take losing a bet, its part and parcel of  the game, but no way am I going to accept what happened, it took me a long time to make that money, and im not going to just 'accept it' and move on.

Stuff like this happens all the time. I use flashscores and the amount of times they make a mistake is frightening and I think they use the same suppliers as Betfair. I've never requested money back from Betfair because of someone else's mistake.

Good on you. See what they say to your email and let us know. I think Betfair should take note of how these things affect customers, because if people like you are driven away from the site by their mistakes then it affects them and us other customers long term.

Seems like a series of errors to me

- Incorrect match time information on Betfair because market person was not aware that the match had been stopped in contrast to other bookies who somehow knew that it had.
- Failure to suspend the market when it should have been suspended.
- Associated odds on the markets after by the two previous factors.
- Failure to re-open the market to enable those caught out by it to attempt to salvage their bets.

Yeah, they don't have the excuse of 'Oh the feeds went down so we're all innocent!!! Have fun not being able to manage your position :)' this time. SORT IT OUT BETFAIR YOU MUGS

Glad to see some support! I have emailed them twice and I wont let this lie. I have been  a member of Betfair for many years and deserve to have this sorted out.

I stated in the email that there were the following faults.

- Failure to suspend the market when it suspended in real life
- Failure to void bets which are technically 'invalid bets' past the moment it was suspended in reality
- Failure to reopen the market so it could be laid off when the game started.

They will certainly lose 4 customers if this isn't sorted and I will make it my duty to encourage more to follow suit on my football forums and betting forums unless I am listened too.

I have no problem accepting betting losses, thats part of the risk you take, but I am not accepting being scammed out of money.

I dont think you were scammed out of it, but I do think that their lack of impetus in the way they managed this market caused the problems.
By:

When: 02 Nov 12 14:42
Yeah I know it was technically not a scam, but thats how it feels. They should refund it as it shows a dreadful lack of  respect for their customers if they dont.

just make sure if youre not happy with your email reply that you phone them and speak to a manager. In my experience, they send standard replies until you push them harder.

I will wait for the second email reply before I phone again, Im a bit loathe to  spend the  money phoning too much but will out of principal, anyone know what their number costs per minute on a standard bt line?

at ItsEssexRob...

the game took place the next day and it ended it 2-2. so if u backed under 3.5 u lost. i also had my money in there..i backed over 1.5 the other day. i m quite sure if there was no suspension i would have lost that day. but thanks for the suspension. however, if the match didnt ever take place again, u would have atleast got your stake back. see betfair terms n conditions.

u can check the scores in www.livescore.com. go to country sweden from the left hand side of the page. then check...date novermber 1. it says 2-2 at full time. so u clearly lost. u shud have greened out man..but bad luck. no1 wud have greened out at 83 mins in under 3.5 goals market with the score being 1-0, though

Yes I am aware of that but the key things are.

- Failure to suspend the market when it suspended in real life
- Failure to void bets which are technically 'invalid bets' past the moment it was suspended in reality
- Failure to reopen the market so it could be laid off when the game started.

Its quite simple. As soon as the match is suspended in reality it should be suspended on Betfair, like it would be if a goal was scored. Can you imagine if a goal was scored and it wasnt suspended then someone bet on number of goals, there would be uproar, this isnt much different.

No terms and conditions  can  alter the fact it was a mistake on their part.

Had I placed a legitimate bet at the legitimate time I would have no case to complain, fact is Betfair screwed up and I am supposed to just accept it? No chance I will fight this on and on.

If the match was not being played, and had been stopped for some reason, and it was a managed in-play market, then Betfair should have known the game was stopped and should have suspended the market. If they didn't and the counter for the match time continued, showing false information, then Betfair must be at fault.

Depends if it was a managed or an unmanaged market. I've seen two markets this week - both unmanaged - where people were still betting half an hour after the match finished.

Some poeple are still under the misaprehension I am contesting a  loss as a normal loss. I am contesting  faults that were made by betfair  and their employees.

Whilst there may be some small print get out clause over the misrepresentation of the time, there can be no excuse for not suspending the market when it was suspended in Sweden, let alone let it carry on for a whole 20 MINUTES past when it was suspended in reality.

as I said I am going to give them time to reply to my new emails, but next step will be a phone call to the manager if they do not give me the answer I want
By:

That's why I said it depends if it was managed or unmanaged. If the former, you have a case. If the latter, less so. Your third key point stands though whatever the case.
By:

Was managed.

This is what I don't get. You see some markets constantly suspended and there's nothing happening of any note. Then you see Champions League matches where the world and his dog can see what's going on but it takes four or five seconds to suspend after a goal. And then there's this match where it takes someone half an hour to realise the game's no longer on.
By:

I dont want  them to direct me in the way of some tiny small print which says that is somehow allowed, because it shouldnt be. Betting  is based on trust, I trust that Betfair will be reasonably reliable and not allow me to effectively be conned into making invalid bets.

essexrob give it up now, you don't have a case mark my words. betfair are covered for all these supposed "errors" you refer to.
By:
ItsEssexRob
When: 02 Nov 12 16:24
They might be covered by some  tiny small print although Im not sure they are covered on the failure to suspend the match bit, but im hoping they do it out of politeness, it reflects badly on them if they allow that to happen. I wont let it lie and will give them a lot of bad publicity, I dont mind losing fairly but I will not take being conned out of  money.

I hope you get the resolution you want but to use words like 'conned' is a bit much. And if you can't see your own errors in this by not checking the match time elsewhere at least (somewhere else) you won't last long either way.

But good luck, you'll need it.
By:

When: 02 Nov 12 17:23
Conned is how I feel.

I was also  checking it on livescore where it hadnt suspended straight away either, but obviously thats not as serious.

I dont imagine many people will have live links to Swedish games on the radio tv or online, I wouldnt know where to find that, they cant expect that of people. They do have some cuty of care its not just a case of, 'heres a tiny peice of t&c which gets us off the hook' therefore youre screwed is it.

I have been doing fine over the years and never had this problem before with betfair but once is too many times.

What does 'must be fishing' mean.
