If you're good enough, you can make money playing snooker, or golf, or football etc. etc.

You might be a good golfer. You might be single figures handicap--maybe you're scratch, got your pro-card. And even then, you are unlikely to be good enough to get on a tour and make it pay.

There are a lot of dreamers on here. Ask yourself, what puts you in the 2% of people that actually make this pay in the long-run?

Just bet with your head, not over it. You'll probably still lose, but at least it won't cost you more than you can afford. Defeatist? Realistic.

Betfair is an exchange. In order for me to lose, someone has to win.  Some people must make money off it. If it weren't possible to make money by laying bets then where would the bookies be?

thank you krinko many people forget this is an exchange with matches like champions league finlas where 30 million pounds were matched it has to go somewhere

By far the smartest post so far.

It can be done and there are thousands of people around the country who do it however most of them will have some kind of saftey net such as a cleaning job for a few hours a day or something just to make sure if things turn sour they can still pay their bills. I have found i can generally make a profit every day if i try hard enough however if i was to do this as a full time job the risk and stress would be over whelming. If you do decide to do it though good luck but make sure you have a saftey net

those who say u can't make a fortune from betfair just arn't skilled enough, or are trading on the wrong sport, take tennis for example in the last 2-3 months there have been many occasions were favorites have traded at almost 1.05 and gone on to lose, this happens all the time. or the PL title race with man u trading at ridiculously low odds with almost 8 games go! or the crazy swings in the champs league shoot out. theres edges to be found every where all year round. jus caus you can't identify value dnt doesn't mean no1 can

if you have the right formula you can make profit from plain backing, no trading nesseccery

it is certainly possible.

If you were doing it full time i would imagine it would become quite a solitary experience.

Also as you become more successful and end up with winnings of 250k then it will be very difficult due to premium charge  2.

I do agree it becomes easier as your bank becomes bigger.

theres a way around that though..ask your parents or relatives to open an account fund it with your money and use that under their name for winnings?

no chance of that working tegz.

Coachbuster if you are looking to do this long term for your primary source of income then paying 40-60% in commission is something you need to consider the impact of.

i agree they should up their feee on earners of 250k or more but 60k is a ridiculous amoount

if any1 is looking to add a profitable system to there portfolio check out goalprofits.co.uk . i have been trading with this guy for a while now and his selections are absolute gold (usally 3-6 a day), hes results arn't faked as he trades his selections on twitter for all to follow and his CS strategies are genius. his "lay the draw" picks are also solidly in profit and have been for years. there hav been losing days all be it very rarely but the profits are huge when they hit. i applogise for shamelessly plugging this service but it really is that good and ive managed to triple my starting bank jus through the last 7 weeks

mayb if u follow this guy for a couple months, many of u wont be so cynical

and for the record "Lay the draw" has and always will be profitable

p.s lol at coach ^

coachbuster from ur experiance, when having betfair as ur sole source of income, can u avoid thinking about betting when u are not on ur computer? for example during the time away from betting  do u think u can be able to focus on tasks which might need ur full concentration

McChicken ,if you have already made a net profit of 250 you should not be struggling on here with a 40 -60% charge or even trying to beat the charges for that matter Wink

Well i'm not on here to give advice ,but if i had 250k i could easily make that work enough to give you a living .

But you probably want to shop in Waitrose and drive around in a new Audi TT don't you ?

mcchicken, i think 250k is a big money. for instance u can go to middle income countries and easily made it into millions if u invested it wisely. but then again it depends on ur sill set

I don't want to attempt to retire on 250k in my mid-20s coach.....Laugh

I am sure with a canny savings plan and a good coupon book it could be achieved though.

Who knows what the future holds anyway, I am sure opportunities are out there, but not ready to quit betting entirely.......yet. Might not be on betfair as much though, time will tell.
