How many Rangers fans go to the average away game? Let's say it's 5,000. That would mean that a team with an average 5,000 home gate would lose around 10% of their gate income (that's assuming they play them twice at home - i.e. the other team finishes in the top 6 or gets the break of two home to one away pre-split). Hardly doomsday stuff. If a miscarriage of justice occurs and Rangers are allowed to stay in the SPL, they'll probably be so far behind after a few months of the season they'll be lucky to have a travelling support of 5,000. I'm more worried about Sandy Jardine handing back his SFA hall of fame award. Will Scottish football be able to survive that?

Just seen this on a thread discussing the "7,000" turnout yesterday on a Celtic forum.
Just in from Reuters - Over 40,000 Celtic fans gathered on Glasgow Green today in an impromptu gathering where they were addressed by Mr. Craig Whyte. After a 25 minute standing ovation Mr. Whyte thanked the Celtic faithful and promised he was doing everything in his power to bring matters to a fitting conclusion. He thanked the crowd estimated at over 60,000 for their support and patience - Mr. Whyte said: "It's not been easy for me but I am working night and day to ensure a satisfactory outcome for myself and my bank account." The euphoric gathering - a crowd of over 100,000 -then broke into a spontaneous medley of Irish folk songs. In an amusing aside Mr. Whyte asked the crowd - now more than a million strong - if they had any old football shares (any club wlecome!) worth flogging. Never in Glasgow's long history has Glasgow Green seen anything like it. Mr. Whyte left for Monaco by private helicopter. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Kal 84.....Your reference to Manchester regarding 'English Casuals' was an excuse spouted foth at the time but it was subsequently proven to be absolute nonsense. Graeme Spiers pointed out that all of those Rangers 'fans' charged were indeed residents of Scotland. The argument that it was a minority of Rangers fans could be a most valid one but to say these fans were English casuals is simply a lie.

Skull what about the other 30 teams in the other 3 divisions? How are they able to survive at all with out 'ra Peepul' visiting twice a season?
By:
feck 5000 fans euals £100000 possibly £200000 per year , these SPL clubs run at a loss every 2nd week and its visits from Rangers and celtic that keep them running financially .
shud i think you will find all these clubs are PART TIME |

SORRY SHOULD HAVE SAID SHREWD
By:
So? They don't need Rangers.
5,000 fans? That's a pre season friendly to teams like Aberdeen, Hearts, Dundee Utd, Hibs. |

Why are Celtic and Rangers never shown live on SKY at their home grounds, except when they are playing each other?
Whenever the 2 cheeks are playing away then they are on Sky,reducing the home crowd by at least a few thousand. If Dundee take Rangers place then 4 Dundee derbies with capacity crowds, also big crowds for visit of Aberdeen and St Johnstone. Plus many fans already boycott the visits of the 2 cheeks because of the bile coming out of the away support and fed up seeing their team get humped by them. Both of the cheeks get about 3 times the next highest from the TV money. Take the above and the fact their will be extra European money up for grabs there will not be a loss of income. The league might actually get fairer. |
By:
I think they are only allowed to show a maximum of 4 games from any one ground (Rangers v Dun Utd is on TV during the week).
By:
no you are wrong Shrewd , for instance if dundee unt host a game they need about 6000 supporters to break even , so they could hold 10 friendlies and not make much money unless they get the crowds , so its only when Celtic and Rangers visit they get crowds of 120000 they make money
By:
sorry 12000 crowds
By:
WALOFS skullery. Are you trying to say that if a football team could attract 6,000 paying customers to a daily game they'd only break even?
By:
THEY CAN PROTEST ALL THEY LIKE ITS SIMPLE THEY ARE GOING TO BE LIQUIDATED
MCCOIST ADMITTED AS MUCH IN HIS INTERVIEW TODAY THE 2 BIDS ARE IN CLOUD CUCKOO LAND AND AS FOR PAUL MURRAY AND HIS 'BLUE KNIGHTS' THEY ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN GETTING RANGERS FOR VIRTUALLY FUCCK ALL |
By:
A DAILY game ? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
some football teams would make a profit with 6000 some wouldnt , im struggling to work out your argument Feck |
By:
So how do the other 3 divisions manage it? Your having a giraffe to say they only make money above 6000 fans.
By:
FFS i was giving 6000 as a example of DUNDEE UNT every club has its own profit and loss based on what supporters they expect , can you fecking read stupid
By:
skullery, if you had claimed that a team needs an average of 6,000 a game to break even over a season I wouldn't have argued but you then went on to say that if they managed to organise an additional 10 pre-season friendlies and attracted 6,000 to each of them then they'd only break even on them. Why? Are the players all being paid per game as opposed to seasonal contracts?
By:
Your implication was that even if the attracted 6,000 and played every day the 6,000 would only cover the cost of holding the game.
By:
So their is no evidence that they need Rangers? Rangers gone, expect less fans and alter finances so an extra pre season friendly makes up for it. Bingo!
By:
obviously they are not going to play friendlies every day , but i think you get my point Feck..
seriously Shrewd read what i posted again .. HOUSE |
By:
Ok I have. All the SPL fans do not 'need' 5,000-6,000 extra fans over a 12 month period. They may have to re-estimate their financial expectation slightly but that is about it.
By:
I'M SURE THE OTHER CLUBS WOULD HAPPILY REDUCE SQUAD SIZES AND WAGE BILLS IF THEY WERE ASSURED OF THE DEMISE OF RANGERS AND ALL THEIR HISTORY DYING WITH THEM.
THEY CAN THEN COME BACK AS A NEWCO AND CAN MAYBE RAISE FUNDS BY SELLING NAMING RIGHTS. I'LL GIVE A FIVER FOR 'GLASGOW STRANGERS' |
By:
Thats better shrewd , and thats my point with Rangers gone most SPL CLUBS would have to down grade pay less wages to staff and players and as you say it re-estimate their financial position ,either way with Rangers gone it effects them financially .
And for what its worth if Rangers are liquidated they should be relegated ..simples |
By:
I would agree then Skullery. Clearly it would have an affect on the teams financially even if it is only a negligible amount in the perspective of a whole season but they don't 'need' Rangers like you said.
It will have an affect, varying from the equivalent to Hearts or Hibs of only having 3 derbies as opposed to four due to the split or more for some of the teams who only get the lesser attendances. Their cloth will be cut accordingly and it won't be armageddon. |
By:
obviously they are not going to play friendlies every day , but i think you get my point Feck..
Your point is wrong. |
By:
Canna see how a SPL can be worse off if they dinna get paid for tickets they hand over to der Hun!

And for what its worth if Rangers are liquidated they should be relegated ..simples Eh, I don't think you understand what liquidation means? When, (not if) rangers are liquidated, they cease to be, they don't "get relegated", because they do not exist. A new club, rangers 2012 or govan fc, etc. may be started and may apply to join the 3rd division, and they may be accepted. They may even be allowed to play at ibrox, as long as they pay the owner, Craig Whyte. There is no, and has never been, any chance of a cva, these blue "knights who say naw", and Bill Miller folk know this fine well, they are looking to pick over the carcass of a liquidation. oh and p.s. can someone explain how Paul Murray can lead any newco? He is effectively banned as he has been a director of a club (rangers fc, ia)who, in the last 5 years has suffered an insolvency event, yep the same as Craig Whyte, when is someone going to tell him this? |
