They are a complete rip off and should be banned   I reckon most bookmakers live off them now cause hardly anyone bets in shops now all online.
Shop almost empty for the blood sport national

They're awful and the beauty for the bookies is the machines don't have to cheat you out of winning. Roulette's odds are against you to begin with but as mentioned earlier, over an infinite amount of spins. This simply means that over time you will lose approx 3% of your spend but because the machine has an unlimited bank, the streaks will kill any and every player. The machines don't cheat you, they simply allow you to play faster and with more money so you exhaust your cash reserves quicker. Remember - 'The House Always Wins' is why casinos make money. Add compulsive gambling into the equation and its like bringing a potato peeler to a nuclear missile battle.

Just watched that iplayer video about the gamblers. Worrying thing is when he was answering the questions in gamecare I could easily answer yes to them all. Only reason I bet reponisble now is that I set limits on all accounts. If I take those limits off sooner or later I start betting too big. Thankfully I've never played these roulette machines or fruit machines.

Yeah I'm banned from everywhere except Betfair where I have affordable limits. Can be annoying sometimes when you see a good bet but can't get on. I place too many bets in between the good bets though to make it worthwhile. I also hate losing and try to chase every loss.

chin up million1... i did the same i was nipping to the shop for a bottle of milk and doing £200 in them, this went on for a few years, i did thousands, i remember missing my daughters xmas play at school coz i was chasing £500 down, i hit 16 with about £13 on it and got most of it back so i came out and went to the school, they had just finished and she asked me were i was, i felt so sh1t..
that was it i self excluded myself from all the shops in the area, i still fall off the wagon now and again when im out and about i might nip in to put a football bet on and end up getting involved but the convenience thing has gone so im nothing like i used to be.
i guess im like an alcholic who has the odd binge now and again.
i really hated myself but for the first time in years i have a few quid in my pocket and it feels good.
i still have alot of mates who play them and i feel very sorry for them. ExcitedSad

Luckily I got an education on here about these machines from people like you sharing their stories. I now boycott them.

Thanks for sharing, it does teach the younger gamblers that they are a trap.

I think I read bookies make most of their money on these now? There is always 2-3 Asian men in my local Ladbrokes piling £20s in. Shocking.

I think it would be a great thing to do if you have the time. You come across as sensible outside the FOBT's and how much you lost and in how short a time shows how dangerous these machines are.

i got in so much trouble--and did things i cant go into detail on here--but going mental in a betting shop didnt help and i got referred to certain people and it was one of doctors who told me how her own son at college had done serios sh-t--and how rife it was amongst universities etc

I hate the whole culture of the machines. People standing behind you watching how much you've blew on them. Waiting to step in and hopefully win your losses. If I'm gambling I like to relax and have fun whilst doing it not have people I don't know staring at me.

classic---thats why i went berserk in the end---clever dicks saying (how can u afford to ose that much) why dont u go to a proper casino --and diving in your seet when u hav a slash--and shouting out what number its gonna land on as its spinning--and worst of all saying thats my number

I imagine most of us started on the fruit machines in the dim and distant days of our youth. I shudder to think what would have happened if these things had been around in those days. Thats the risk for young punters today. £10 and £20 spins on FOBTs and the inevitable chasing.

These threads are good because they can point out to people the dangers of gambling.

For all you losers out there remember that the Bookmakers will not let you win.Over the years I have been responsible for more price changes than anyone on the net.The Bookmakers would take my bets and cut the price straight away.Since the Accountants took over they simply closed my accounts and those of many others, which has lead them to boast of having so many hundreds of active punters.

If you must have an account and are a loser bet with the Asian bookmakers on football. When you start winning (and you can by betting on Asian handicaps with such a small bookmakers margin) their culture is not to close down winning accounts..

Basically give the finger to all British bookmakers.Tell your friends to tell their friends and twitter and facebook and push this arguement...

There aren't any FOBTs in pubs, only quiz machines and fruit machines. The fruit machines are now £1 play £70 quid jackpot machines.

People standing around waiting for someone to do their dough before diving in and winning are wasting their time because unlike a fruit machine these things dont care in the slightest whether they are up or down.

Been reading this thread and have to say it's very interesting. It's so easy to get hooked to anything these days, and what the hell does gamble responsibly mean?

I love betting on sport (football and tennis mainly) and its always exciting to watch if you've bet. However the one thing that has given me profit is online roulette. I've made over £400 quid since November so not about to give up my day job. Plus some of this has gone on sports betting. Roulette has challenged me to be disciplined but this is something i am able to do. I only try to win 10-20 quid a time, and i have had losses but have always managed to win money back and profit in the next go. Having read this thread I will stay away from the machines in the bookies and to be honest I do all my betting online anyway.

I wish you better luck with any future bets million.

I don't go in betting shops much nowadays but when I do I am becoming increasingly concerned about the people using these machines. In the main they are young men most of whom only seem to be in there to go on the machines. Never see them putting a bet on at the counter. Their demeanour is also significant - very few of them look happy and seem anxious - some look guilty using money they can ill afford.

The speed at which you can lose money is the most alarming issue and only adds to the panic which seems to take over. Someone on here  suggested having a word with them to warn them of the dangers but I feel that would be a waste of time and would seem a bit hypocritical coming from a fellow gambler.

I seriously feel that the government should look towards either decreasing the number of machines or banning them altogether. Many lives and relationships will be destroyed unless something is done.

I would also ban any adverts to do with gambling - sick of seeing paddy mcguiness and that other to$$er ray winstone (your the daddy)- these people would eat $hit for money and have no regard for the morality of promoting gambling.

Rant over!

aliboy3--well done mate if u r disciplined--its somthing i could do when in front but went mental when chasing big time---you wouldnt believe reading my post but i am a really good judge on sport and horses but could flush a couple of months good gambling down the pan in one day--so you can imagine what state i got in on roulette

thanks million. I'll admit though at the casino i don't have the same discipline. It must be something to do with the environment. Plus the fact that the minimum bet is higher at the casino. I recently tried to not bet on the fottie, but i like it too much. It was cancelling out my roulette profits, or giving me free bets on the fottie which ever way you look at it.

I find the whole thing fascinating. A couple of years ago I tried the financial betting on here and lost some big bets, so have learned what works for me and what doesnt. But even if I lose with footie bets I know i would still bet on, so heres hoping for some luck!

it's possible tobermory. I never go for single numbers, always odd or even, or 1-18 and 19-36. i'ts not perfect but it works. i also realised not to place a bet on every spin.
