I don't know where this xenophobic thing comes from, with regards those who think the England manager should be English. For me, the manager should be English because the players have to be. We can't pinch Messi or Ronaldo, so we should pick the best Englishman for the job of coach too.

My favourite Pullein story is from a few years back.He was in the pub (OK wine bar) and was recognised by a punter and asked did he think that England would win later on that night.His reply was that he couldn't advance an opinion as he "had left his notes on the goal minutes back at the office". No I did not make that up and believe it or not he still works for the Racing Post !! Liberals.....

If i were you, I'd just check reputable sources such as the Oxford English Dictionary. Youre original statement was that to give redknapp the job on the basis he was English, would be racist. Now, without going offf on a tangent, or cutting and pasting, could you please explain how on earth this can be racist? I'll give you a clue, your answer might start "actually, i was wrong, its not racist, english isnt a race so it obviously cant be racist, it would actually be xanephobic". |

I thought I'd already explained, a common use of the term can be used to describe the interpretation I mentioned.
I then went on to show how "xenophobic" also has other common meanings in addition to one which relates to nationality. (Here is a clue, there are other sources than the OED). This was despite your insistence that it was not the case. It may have been going off track slightly, but as you brought up the phrase you were certain I should have used, I thought it reasonable to demonstrate that words which are commonly used in one respect can be used in other ways also. hth |

He has a proven track record in the english game. Fair enough, he hasnt won a boat load of trophies but he's been a success most jobs he's had. He's a great man manager. This is absolutely huge for the England manager. Keeping the bunch of clowns we have as players in check is not easy and past managers have been unable to do it. Wally with the brolly and sven too pally with them and fabio too strict, grounding them like 12 year old schoolboys. He understands the players, what makes them tick and is known to get the absolute best out of his players. Im guessing you dont think he is the man for the job. Who would you say was a realsitic alternative? |

The question those saying Redknapp's CV isn't good enough need to answer this question.
Why did we fail so badly at the last World Cup if it was as easy as appointing a coach with the best CV? (for example someone who'd won nine league titles with four different clubs in two different countries like Capello). You should appoint the manager who you think will get you the best results in the future, not the one who has had the best record in the past. |

I don't really agree with Redknapp being England manager
I was enjoying the sweeping out of the 10yr England regulars who have failed miserably, yet are still reveered (Terry, Cole x2, Gerrard, Ferdinand, Lampard, etc.) under Capello However in all fairness, Redknapp has earned his right to have a crack at the England job, with his work with Tottenham over the past 2 years. |

I can only speak as a neutral, although I am slowly going off the Greed League as they continually distance themselves from the football pyramid. Saying that, Spurs have taken over the mantle from Arsenal (imo) as the team to watch from a neutral point of view. That's why I didn't undersand any rumbling's about Harry's brand of football, although I guess it's just a minority. Mind you, he is an odious character. |
