interesting read. perhaps gone a bit too far "the other way", and is not giving 'arry the credit due for the improvement in tottenham as a football club since he arrived.
but i gotta say i tend to agree with a lot of it. |
By:
Indeed, a very good read. A refreshing change to find a journalist who isn't crawling up Rednapp's arse.
By:
At worst we'll be performing as well(badly) but saving money (nap)
Hiddink far and away the standout candidate short term and perhaps long but must be an englander. Mugs the lot of yous |
By:
Mexicano. I agree mate
By:
Yes Mex, too far exaggerated the other way.
Redknapp does not get the Kim Il Sung like worship from the media this guy claims, and his appointment would be a lot more popular than anyone else that is likely to consider the job. |
By:
trying to remember who was the last england coach to leave the post without a severely damaged image. probably ron greenwood(caretaker i think. some might say terry venables. alf ramsey a cert.
By:
"Redknapp does not get the Kim Il Sung like worship from the media this guy claims"
Oh, rest assured he gets exactly that. |
By:
Good read. It's an ongoing circle with England and the FA are a lot to blame for this...after all we now have a chartered accountant running English football whose main priorities were reducing dissent and increasing respect in English football...obviously not to the extent of respecting the manager, appointed by the said organisation, to deal with football matters on the pitch. Capello was/is a good manager and a loss I expect we will come to regret, unless of course they do the sensible thing and appoint the best man for the job and not one based on his nationality..alas I fear not.
By:
The press are so keen on Redknapp it must mean that they have loads of dirt on him.
By:
Capello was a poor manager and if you look at the England fixtures when he was manager then his success rate should have been higher.£24 million of your English pounds gone South.
By:
Good piece. Redknapp should, and will, get he job but as this article points out the players will be the same.
Redknapps candidacy is massively enhanced by the total and shameful lack of alternatives. No one dare contemplate who to appoint if Redknapp doesnt want it. Hodgson? Pearce? Alladyce? |
By:
Won one FA Cup ; questions his own ability to write , use a computer , send emails , use text messaging , use faxes ; ideal credentials for an England manager I would have thought. And speaks Cockney/Mockney - result eh? the boy will have done good before the fat lady sings.
By:
Obviously Hiddink is a vastly superior candidate, but he probably won't get it because he isn't english. Shame that the FA won't pick the best, but then they are racist.
By:
leaving aside what you might think of redknapp can you imagine the press's reaction if anyone else gets the job in preference to their chosen one ?
honeymoon period ? they're tear the poor sod limb from limb from day one |
By:
So by appointing an English manager to be manager of the England football team the FA would be racist !! No wonder the country is in such a state and the garbage from around the world washes up on its shores. Is that a racist comment or should anyone be allowed to live there ?
By:
I really hope Redknapp doesn't take it. Doing such a good job at Spurs would be a shame to see him go the way of McClaren etc.
By:
me too mover. Just can't see him not taking it if offered though
By:
Yes homefortea, by picking someone who isn't the best manager for the job but simply because they were english, that would make them racist.
Are you thick? |
By:
not really sure what point the bloke writing the article is trying to make.
an englishman should be the manager of england and redknapp is by the best qualified candidate. everyone knows the reason we don't do very well if cos we don't have very good players. how many times have watched you even 2nd and 3rd rate international sides outpass england let alone the very best ? every chance redknapp will make little difference. why do think everyone thinks he'd be made to take it ? |
By:
* mad to take it
By:
There are reasons other than 'best man for the job' why you might want to pick an english manager.
Familiarity with the football culture, abilty to speak the language etc So it is not inherently racist to have that view |

What ? You think that by appointing Gus Hiddink as manager, a rip roaring success in Turkey is the right appointment. He is better than Harry at one thing though - He was found GUILTY of tax fraud in 2007.There are some countries in the world that would not let him get a visa after that conviction. The Rascist card is overplayed and in this countries case has dragged it into the gutter..Feck off you Liberal...
By:
Am I right in thinking there's an element of the Spurs support who are not totally enamoured with 'Arry and wouldn't be disappointed to see him leave?
The job is a poison challice, and though I have nothing against Spurs (Except all those 4-0 Cup defeats ) it's perfect for Redknapp. You can take the boy out of the East End..... |
By:
If Harry gets it will not be any different. The players are simple not good enough. The press know this but the hounding of the English manager is a national sport. Harry is perceived as the savior. If he takes it won't be long till the press are hounding him out. Just have a sneaky feeling Harry won't take it. If he doesn't then i can see the FA swiftly change their view on wanting an English man. Because the rest of the crop are limited.

Anyone would think this 'journalist' doesn't know that the main idea behind building them up is to knock em down.

If you cant see hiddink is by far a superior candidate for both his mainly good and rare bad experiences across several different nations you sir, cannot be helped. |

kev, when he was appointed many of us had reservations (me included) but we were desperate at the time and mid season we'd didn't have many other options.
he's done a tremendous job. don't think people realise how much we are up against it. he broke up the sky 4 which seemed almost impossible at the time and the 5 clubs we're now competing with all have vastly superior budgets. as for him leaving been on the cards ever since capello said he was going in the summer in a way it's better it's come to a head now. at least now we can plan for next season. would have been much worse if the fa had stuck to their original plan and came calling for arry in july leaving us in a right mess with the season not far away. |
By:
There is no problem with Hiddink's ability to speak or understand english, not with his adaptability to the culture, he has managed it perfectly well in every other job he has had.
The fact that people use the term "liberal" in a derogatory way just shows how thick they are. The same as the term "socialist" is about the worst insult you can give to someone in America. Yes, I am a liberal, and proud of it. |
By:
agree with anfeild - think it is no more than 50/50 that he will take the job if he's offered it. Family could well persuade him to stay where he is given Spurs loyalty, his health issues and a court case that has probably taken a lot out of him.
By:
Rosie47 you dog.A Liberal in this country is the worst insult I can imagine. And for the record I have never said that Harry is the best candidate to be England Manager. As for Hiddink I am in awe of his learning to speak fluent Turkish in his short and vastly unsuccessful stint as the manager of the national team, as I am of his abilities when in charge of Russia....
By:
the worrying thing to come out of todays press conference was the inference from bernstein that it was the "confidence" element that was missing from the team more than any other factor....if he really believes this then it shows that the man at the top is pretty much clueless as to our real failings.

had the chance to get mart o'neill years ago and blew it

I'll just have to accept that you are a thicko, homefortea. Every comment you have made on this thread have proved it beyond any doubt.

I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD GO FOR A COCKNEY, I THINK THE NEXT ENGLAND MANAGER SHOULD BE ENGLISH.

Nothing funnier than a thicko calling someone else thick!!HTH |

In common use of the word, Ouspenski, it is frequently used to describe discrimination based on race, religion, or nationality. I suggest you do a little more research. HTH.

So Rosie how is the flat in Tower Hamlets at this time of the year ?
