i do realise that jason. but as i said they've had more trouble with these markets than enough.

there is obviously a reason they haven't put a market up right.

a] they can't be bothered.

b]they've got nobody here who can do it.

c] they know that the sooner they get the market up the more money they make, but past experience has led them to be carefull with these markets so they'll see how the fa are going to play it to cut down on potential disputes.

your choice

Yes, and I'm sure other bookies have also had a problem, but chose to put the market up.

i'm sure they have. but that's their call.

the turnover on some of these markets on here is remarkable.i know some of it is recycled but it can be huge

whereas the bookie chaps tend to shy away from any lumps on these sort of markets, therefore it makes them a lot less vulnerable to big losses if there's a dispute.

there have been cases where bookies were caught by ambiguos wording and they paid out on both results. but bf c'nt do that, cos the figures would be too large.

Byline: Howard Wright Howard Gregory Wright (born December 20 1967, in San Diego, California) is an American professional basketball player. He is a 6'8" (203 cm) 220 lb (100 kg) forward and played collegiately at Stanford University from 1978–82.

PUNTER Simon 'Evel Knievel' Cawkwell is not backing down in his long-running legal battle with Betfair, despite losing the opening round this month.

Cawkwell, a stock market bear trader whose nickname comes from his daring City gambles, has filed papers seeking leave to appeal the decision of a judge at Guildford County Court, who ruled in favour of the betting exchange A betting exchange is a peer-to-peer gambling website acting as a broker between parties for the placement of bets. The concept is similar to that of a stock exchange or a futures exchange, where in this case the commodity being traded is a bet, rather than a stock or futures .

If granted, any appeal court hearing into Cawkwell's claim, which amounts to around pounds 40,000, including interest, would be held next year.

The dispute centres on a series of bets placed on Betfair by Cawkwell in July 2006 that Niall QuinnFor the racing driver, see Niall Quinn (racing driver).

Niall John Quinn (Honorary) MBE (b. October 6, 1966 in Dublin, Ireland) is a former Irish international footballer, and the current chairman of Sunderland AFC.
..... Click the link for more information., who at the time was heading a consortium to buy Sunderland football club, would not take over as manager in succession to Mick McCarthy Michael Joseph "Mick" McCarthy (b. February 7 1959, Barnsley, England) is an English-born Irish former professional footballer, who is currently the manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers. .

Cawkwell stood to lose pounds 6,342 if the market was settled with Quinn getting the job, but would collect pounds 29,983 if it went to another manager.

Quinn was appointed, but Cawkwell claimed only on a temporary basis, which he maintains meant he won. Around six weeks later, and following completion of the takeover, Quinn relinquished the post and was replaced by Roy Keane.

Cawkwell argued that in terms of the next manager market, a person taking on the position in a caretaker capacity was not the new manager, but Betfair disagreed and that view was supported by the judge.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin said: "When handing down his judgement at the county court this month, the judge said in his order that permission to appeal is refused.

"In the event that Mr Cawkwell is granted permission to appeal, Betfair will continue to defend its position."

but i guess i wouldnt say that if id backed quinn for next manager! iv had a similar argument before. i backed thomas muller to be top scorer at the world cup, he finished joint 1st but recieved the golden boot trophy due to playing less games i think it was, so obviously i argued that he was top scorer and they said it came down to who had scored the most goals and not who'd won the trophy, so i said who wins the trophy to which they had to reply the guy who scores the most goals but still wouldnt pay out.

Looks like mexicano was right all along then:

"Given the uncertainty surrounding the terms, duration and nature of any appointment, we have decided to wait until after the FA media conference, which is scheduled for midday (UK time) today, before loading a market. Subject to what emerges from that media conference, we anticipate activating a market shortly after it concludes"

I don't think their reasoning was ever in dispute, biscuit.

But I still think they're being overly cautious.

Bacon, tbf Betfair did state in their rules from the outset that they were betting on Top Scorer and the dead heat rule would apply, wheras FIFA were going to use assists to have a clear winner, so you were never betting on The Golden Boot.

From what i recall Quinn was intended as a permanent manager but it quickly became apparent he was alarmingly out of his depth.

The Manager Market that caused most confusion was the Newcastle one 3 seasons back . Can't rememner why but Betfair decided that they had  made Joe Kinnear permanent manager, when , reading between the lines of the club statement , they clearly just gave him it for a few months til someone better became available.

the chelsea one caused problems...hiddink was trading very very low when we all knew he was only temporary and was going back to russia the market rules clearly stated that temporary didn't count.
