Theo Lampard Downing, shouldn't be anywhere near an England shirt. We need technically gifted visionary players in the centre of the park. Wayne Jack and Tom for me. If you've not got Wayne I can see the reasons for wanting Steve to replace and then swap Tom with Scott to sure things up a bit more physically.

Yeh, Robbo retired. Shame - I think he's still very good.

I'd forgotten about Cleverly as well... great shout.

Get the kids in and let them enjoy it - the media need to get off their backs as well.

The Euro's is no place for experimenting with Rooney in CM

Im surprised people have yet to notice just how good Justin Walker is. Wilshere has barely played this season so ignoring him as impossible to gauge form and fitness.
Hart
Walker Ferdinand Jones Cole
Lennon Milner Parker Johnson
Rooney Sturridge

Dropped there plenty of times for United and done brilliantly. Just the man to smash Xavi and Iniesta about as well. But I would have him behind Danny in a 4-4-2 system versus lesser teams for sure.

I've noticed Walker, but I think Mancini has had longer with Richards, and that shows in their performances.

If Downing goes, it wil be a joke. He has been nothing short of abysmal all season.

Put it this way - playing someone in a position they hardly ever play, and are hardly likely to play in the forseeable future, is not sensible.

Do what Arry' does; pick good players and play them in their best positions.

Who is Justin Walker? I've never even heard of him, never mind noticed him.

Richards is a superior player to Wlaker at RB imo. Baffling how he's not featured in recent squads.

You raise very fair points Jason. Problem is my system for the big teams would have to change to have Wayne in up top as need Danny up top. Can I drop Wayne for Spain and put in Parker instead, it's definitely possible. Media wouldn't like it mind you!

I agree RF. Close call between the much maligned Glen Johnson and Micah Richards for me. Kyle Walker is definitely going the right way though and could be an England RB in the future.

Welbeck isnt good enough yet imo.

Hart

Richards Smalling Jones Cole

Cleverley

Rooney/Parker Wilshere

Johnson Chamberlain

Wellbeck

Slot to 4-4-2 vs lesser teams moving Rooney behind Danny.

The Richards thing just shows how Managers either 'fancy' a player or they don't.

I went to see a game early in Capello's reign (I think!) and Richards played right back - the crowd loved him when he bombed forward, but he was pretty shocking defensively.

I wasn't surprised when Capello never picked him again.

I think he's changed now, and Mancini has nutured him into an excellent defender - but I also think Capello still has the feelings that he just hasn't got the technique.

Danny coming on leaps and bounds and time and time again we've needed pace up top and lacked it. It's not an ideal situation for us, but England just aren't blessed with anyone outstanding. Wayne is too good and out of position up top on his own and nowhere near as fast as Danny. I think he's a better bet than Jermaine, Darren etc.

A bite? Sir Alex thinks Danny up top is a good thing, but perhaps you know better than him or I. Jealous of Sir Alex and the fact I make **** loads on here perhaps? If so stop posting on my threads as your juvenile behaviour is pathetic and frankly annoying.

I agree with RF that Richards is better than Walker right now (so that's 2 Spurs fans saying that). Not much between Walker and Johnson imo, I think Johnson is better technically and Walker is a better athlete. Richards is like the best of both.
By:

Yes, a bite.

I don't think Ferguson would pick Welbeck as a lone striker for any crucial game unless he had to, so I also don't expect the National Manager to do so...

I like Wellbeck -- I'd take him but he wouldn't be a starter for me.
By:

When: 08 Feb 12 12:36
Every Premiership game is crucial and Sir Alex has deemed it suitable to play Wellbeck up top on his own and drop Wayne into midfield several times. I sense you're on the wind up so fair enough, I got you yesterday, you got me today. Let's talk England though yeah.

talking of johnson (glen)
kelly is better than he defensively and also is a much better crosser.

you only want attacking fullbacks if your centre backs are mobile enough and good enough defensively ....which is where the argument for walker and johnson necomes a serious issue for me.

kelly is much better ballanced between defence and attack.
he wont OVER commit unless there will be an end product.

johnson and walker are more attack minded which is good as an option but not for costant starting imo

the attack is in transition imo.

walcott is garbage and we have some young players coming through which ultimatley will cost us of any chance which was slim anyway.

you see the main pronlem we have in this country is our approach to the game.

we can only play the English way which is constantly falling behind the approach the continentals use.
art of that is donw to composure and technical ability on the ball.

motivation wont counter ballance that.
only tactics will.

I would quite like to see us setup like the Germans did at the last world cup and have two holding midfielders so our full backs can get forward, we have potentially two great full backs going forward.

GK Hart

RB Walker
LB A.Cole
CB P.Jones
CB G Cahill
CM S.Parker
CM J.Wilshire
Free role W.Rooney
RWF Sturridge
CF Zamora
LWF Oxo Chamberlin

Subs - Terry, Stockdale, Defoe, Walcott, Barry, Richards, A Young, A Carroll, S Gerrard, Ruddy, Smalling, Wellbeck.

Why would you pick Terry?

No one can claim that with him, or anyone else from our ageing squad, in our team we have looked like potential winners, so what benefit will we gain?

Get him out and start planning for 2012, whether you think Terry is any good or not (I think he's not a great deal better than the Lescotts, Cahills and Dawsons of this world, but that's another debate).
By:
G1_Jockey_4

the attacking fullback scenario is more dependant on two mobile centre backs.

we found this out the other season.

wilshere isnt a holding player anyways and tracking back would be a problem as parker would get over worked if the ball got moved about like the foreigners tend to do better than us.

very hard that, im a chelsea fan and i wouldnt go near Sturridge hes such a selfish player and doesnt know how to pass, in my opinion he's gotta take some of the blame for Torres' failure to score.
Basically i found it easier to find players i didnt want in the team rather than those out of it. We are severly lacking in quality in most area's iv ended up picking the players i thought were the least bad! rather than anyone i actually wanted to put in the team. There is not one world class english defender in the world at the moment in my opinion. shocking as it is. terry, ferdinand and ashley all on the decline, midfield is the same with gerrard and lamps, and theres not a lot coming behind. strikers we lack i was tempted to go Bent but really hes never even played Cl regularly. i give up this is the best i can do

Jason - RMB asked us to select our best team for 2012 not for 2014 and beyond.

Despite the bloke being a complete c*nt, i still believe Terry is one of our 2 best centre backs.
By:

When: 08 Feb 12 14:06
Yes, and 2012 is related to 2014.

Do you think we'll win the tournament with that team?
By:
G1_Jockey_4
When: 08 Feb 12 14:06
i agree re terry

problem is who do you pair with him???

lescot cant hold a line
cahill is grossly overated and also to similar in his approach to terry....ie.he is more of a meeting the ball centre back rather than a reader.
jagielka is more ballanced but is he really good enough.

smalling is ok but probbably a bit too inexperienced at this level
same with jones
dawson too similar to terry

i suppose you could pair terry and smalling but god forbid if smalling did something wrong lol

i think over the last few years this nations stock in centre backs has fallen from grace.

the better ones are getting on now
the younger ones are not proven at this level and need time.

it spells bad news.
