Nile Ranger was absent from training at Liddington this morning, Swindon Town manager Mark Cooper has revealed. Ranger, who the Advertiser understands has skipped practice sessions on a number of occasions over the course of the last month, was expected to take part at the club's training ground but didn't show up. Cooper said that Ranger had been allowed time off at the weekend following the trip to Macclesfield (when Town were humiliated 0-4 by the non-league side), but the forward has yet to return to the club. When asked at this afternoon's press conference ahead of Saturday's trip to Colchester whether Ranger had trained, Cooper initially answered: "I'll answer that in a minute but the burning question should be, we won a game on Tuesday and we've got a game to prepare for on Saturday so I don't understand. "The fans should be talking about the game on Saturday and should be concentrating more on the players that played on Tuesday and will play on Saturday. "Nile Ranger was given some time off last weekend, he had a few personal issues that he needed to sort out, he was never going to be involved on Tuesday and he was supposed to be in for training today." When asked whether Ranger had turned up this morning, Cooper said: "No." And when questioned about his whereabouts, the Swindon manager said: "I don't know. That's all I'm prepared to say on the matter. He wasn't at training today, he's been given a little bit of time off but he wasn't at training today." Ranger is currently out on bail and due to stand trial in Newcastle next January, accused of rape. |

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25527869 Nile Ranger: Swindon boss Mark Cooper to consider striker's future Swindon boss Mark Cooper says they may look to offload Nile Ranger in January after a string of disciplinary issues. The 22-year-old striker failed to turn up for training on Friday despite featuring for the Robins on Boxing Day. Cooper told BBC Wiltshire: "He is a tremendous centre-forward and there are not many better at this level but sometimes the group is more important."January is coming and somewhere along the line we have to make a decision on what we are going to do."“ Ranger was reprimanded by the League One club in November for failing to attend training and was then given time off to deal with personal issues. Earlier this month Cooper said the former Newcastle United player should show "a bit more respect" to his fellow players. "He played on Boxing Day but we've not seen him," Cooper added. "The rest of the players have been in preparing for Sunday. He's probably had a lie-in." London-based Ranger has scored six goals in 19 appearances for Swindon since joining on an initial one-year deal in August. Cooper hopes the striker is able to fulfil his potential. "I'm more frustrated for Nile," Cooper said. "He is only still a young, young man. He has got a tremendous talent and he is wasting it."It's difficult but he is going to have himself to blame. He has had enough chances." Asked how many more chances Ranger has, Cooper replied: "I don't know. I haven't got a clue." Ranger is due to appear in court in January after being charged with rape, in connection with an alleged incident in Newcastle earlier this year.He denies the charges. |

"Mr Ranger is not in a position of the vast majority of defendants before this court," Mr Roberts said. "They enjoy largely in the public gaze anonymity when they leave the courts. That privilege is not afforded to Mr Ranger by virtue of his celebrity." District judge Simon Cooper replied: "Really? I've not heard of him". ![]() |
