I thought Chelsea dominated last season (milk cup apart, obv)

well, season tickets have gone on general sale for the 1st time ever so that's a good indication that they might struggle to fill the ground sometimes next season.
Do you not think the recession has something to do with that? Hilarious how with a couple of wins against pub teams Liverpool fans think it's their season again ![]() |

my point being u need to win a trophy of some sort to "dress it up" as a successful season,i think winning a trophy would be quite an achievement in many a club, but ye see, because we've won everthing numerous times it's seen as a failure,i get ye.
god it's hard been the biggest club in the world |

Acknowledging I had a point, and no insult in one post, that must have been hard.
But yes, that was my point exactly, due to previous seasons, last season must be regarded as a failure, something fans are very reluctant to accept. |

Do you not think the recession has something to do with that? More to do with the massive price rises in tickets. While your owners are doing their level best to drive away your hardcore support [the type who stood on the Stretford End as teenagers and are now thinking of how to afford to take along their kids] your nearest neighbours are putting themselves in a position to be more attractive. The full house signs could well only be posted for about 4-5 games a season soon and they may even have to resort to pathetic stunts like trying to hawk half-season tickets on local radio at Christmas time. It's a vicious circle though. What top player will want to play in a hushed stadium with swathes of empty seats and the only noise the clicking of camera buttons every time someone takes a corner. When the top players leave and the performance inevitably drop, ticket prices will have to go even higher to make up the shortfall in tv and prize money. |

I thought it was an excellent post actually but then again I'm neutrally un-blinkered.

so what happens when abramovich and these filthy rich arabs get bored of playing with there toys??i look forward to the day,the novelty of owning a football club will only last so long before they get bored

Nobody stays on top forever and yet outside Liverpool, United have the greatest sense of entitlement of the lot. Unfortunately for them the core of the team are getting old as is the manager, they can't afford to buy success any more and they don't have a golden generation coming through. Hard times are a coming and what they have won in the past are an irrelevance.
By:
eeternaloptimist,do u attend the united accademy every weekend?i highly doubt that, therefore your opinion of us not having a "golden generation"coming through is irrelevant, however,i see them playing every weekend and can assure u we have some great talent coming through, hth

2 points, maybe a tad off topic.
Leo - saying 'I'll leave you to it', and then carrying on, means that you will be mocked. Not a dig, just advice. Saying that United's season last year was 'terrible' and using it in the same sentence as a description of Liverpool's season is just laughable. |
By:
Palmer, I said I'll leave him to it as he was being insulting, since he has become more receptive to other opinions differing from his own and ceased using excessive smileys to make a point.
By:
come on leo, man u and liverpools season are not to be compared last season when you think about it without bias
By:
last season was not a bad one for united, if it was not for chelsea, leeds, bayern they would have completed a quadrupple
By:
my point was to highlight utd fan's reluctance to accept that had a bad season, not to compare theirs with Liverpool although i do accept I did that.
By:
and but for, everton, birmingham, blackburn, stoke, fulham, sunderland, bolton, wolves, wigan and west ham, liverpool would have been relegated
By:
Leo
Both points accepted... cheers. It wasn't a great season, but bad might be stretching it. We were a point from Chelsea in the league and if Rafael had been a little more mature, almost certainly through to face Lyon in the CL semi. If and buts, but not a 'bad' season for me. |
By:
ok i'll withdraw bad and say under-achievement.
By:
Seems fair!
By:
leoonahigh,so who will be under- achieving this coming season if they dont win a trophy?
By:
I think Utd over achieved last season myself, especially considering the injuries they had.
By:
realistically there are 4 trophies up for grabs depending on league positions from last season, I would imagine chelsea, arsenal united spurs city liverpoool everton villa, will think they ave a chance of lifting at least one, not too lift one but finish in the top 4 would be an achievement for most of that list imo
By:
kauto, imo id say utd chelsea and i'd prob say man city
By:
Sorry, just popped in to say
jonny evans, fabio, rafael, smalling ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If Utd were to play those lot at the back they would be relegated. |
By:
so spurs not winning anything would be a suitable season, and liverpool not winning anything would also be a suitable season given there also in the europa league??
shrood mug, jonny evens is a top defender, rafael is a good full back but has to learn how to defend, and fabio is very good, smalling still has it all to prove, ill give u that one,i dont think he's much good to be honest, cant really see why we bothered taking him |
By:
spurs and liverpool qualifying for cl and not winninga trophy would be a good season winning a trophy and doing the former would be a very good season imo
By:
suppose your rite rp,just shows ye how football has changed these days when its more important to qualify for the cl than to win a trophy
By:
liverpool will not take europa league serious when it comes down to it this year
By:
why wont they wwcd?if united were in the europa league id want them to win it,nice trophy, and besides the final is at the aviva stadium this season
![]() ![]() |
By:
4th place rules. If they have a run of tough games fighting for champions league place in latter part of season europa league will go out the window. This is true innit
By:
Agree with WWCD Liverpool have got to concentrate on a good league finish
By:
kautostars
My point was that they did have a golden generation of first teamers who came through the ranks. The current youth team players may be wonderful but that doesn't mean that they will make it at first team level and whether they do or not it is unlikely to help United for the next couple of seasons. |
By:
The Premiership is a lot tougher league now than when Neville etc came through the ranks.
Bigger & faster. Very difficult to blood youth at the top top level now imho. |
By:
well the kids are bigger and faster, youths got to be blooded sometime,if theyre good enough...
By:
They only lost the leagye by a point, Chelsea for me are the team more likely to regress with their age profile. I think United will win the league this year with Arsenal and City to follow them home. I expect big things from the likes of Valencia, Nani and Hernandez this year and Berbatov too should do better.
By:
we have an ancient midfield
By:
Some interesting points, I think at this point of the year you could make a case for both sides of the coin, it seems there are potential strengths which could be exposed as weakness once the season starts for both teams. I expect a very interesting first few weeks to the season.
