btw...have you noticed tighter margins on here of late ? i can't see much value kicking around other than taking very high risks - i'm laying low ,other than the Bookies it's less than  £500 profit in the last 7 weeks lol -i'll bide my time i think for now ,have the closure of foreign markets been detrimental do you think ?

I do a bit of low volume high margin stuff, and that is getting more and more competitive.
I've expanded into botting as well, working with others.

In the long term I think the only chance people betting manually have on here is to be good match readers /analysts and/or to develop a feel of how the markets behave that is difficult to put into an algorithm.

When I joined Betfair I had never even set foot in a bookie. It was fairly straight forward to discover ways to make (small) amounts of money. These days it would be much more difficult for someone starting out, but still doable. What really surprised me was that no-one had yet created bots to do what I was doing, as it was purely quantitative and didn't require me even watching the games. Now people are starting to bot this stuff, but the process is slow (as I've noticed trying to get bots out there myself).

My own manual betting has evolved to the point where it would be extremely difficult to replace myself with a bot. Maybe one day, and I can get on with something else. I'm sure I'd miss it though!

Hi all the regulars just back from 3 weeks tennis in tenerife. No betfair in spain although you can get around it with a proxy server.  last 2 days £62.  Un lucky with that loss investor.

henok, this strategy is now completely botted. Even though the margins were still high, it wasn't worth spending time betting manually on this anymore. For 2012 the manual figures for this strategy are much lower:

951 bets from 1st Jan 2012 to 9 December 2012. After that I 'retired' from trading this strategy manually.
I reckon the margins will continue to drop.

My manual betting turnover was 47x higher in 2012 than 2009, the high margin stuff is unsustainable.
