here: -200 Mugasco v Seppi Why are you betting on a sport that you seem to know little about with money that you can't afford to lose? |
|
By:
Because he is a Mugasco!

Speed knitting, is bob's forte.
Dreadful shame there are no markets on here for him to take advantage of. |
|
By:
In fairness to Bob, Rob, he does know more about tennis than any of the other sports he bets on.
Mind you, he doesn't know much more than the fulltime bettor basics about tennis, so that's not saying a great deal! |
|

what makes you say i know little about tennis Rob? Because you back Azarenka and Goerges on the basis that you find them attractive, backed Bartoli because she said she wanted to win in an interview (amazing a player wanting to win) despite knowing nothing about her opponent and never having seen her play, and backed a Verdasco who has been on the decline for years at heavily odds versus a Seppi who has been showing some reasonable form... Of course, it's easy for me to say this after the event for the Verdasco match, but the points remain on the others. Why are you betting with money that you can't afford to lose? Or can you afford to lose it and it's just been taken from your betting fund so to speak? |

I don't think that it was a tip off, if I recall correctly I said I was happy taking 2.2 on Azarenka when I felt it should have been evens the pair, and they duly went off evens the pair, so I was happy with the bet win or lose. And it was against Kvitova. But well done all the same.
Are you going to answer the other questions or do you ignore questions directed at you? |
|
By:
That's the bit he doesn't get, the prices.
|
|
By:
Well it is true Bob. You know more about tennis players than the average joe in the street, but compared to fulltime punters, your knowledge is very shallow. You know a few big names, and you tend to go for them regardless of who they're playing or what sort of form they're in.
Yes, you 'picked out' Aza - although whether you picked her out for the right reasons, or just got lucky is up for debate - but otherwise you mostly inhabit the world of the mug bet. |

1. gambling is addictive. who said i can't afford to lose? Does it concern you that you have a gambling addiction? You stated that you had run out of funds and so were on the forum to socialise until you had money again. I made a presumption, which could be wrong, that you were gambling beyond your means. Hopefully I am wrong. Am I? |
|
By:
If you're good at betting tennis matches, why do you need to resort to Martingales?
|
|
By:
Lol, bob. A prematch tip-off would indicate very little about a persons ability to make money on here or their overall knowledge of gambling.
|
|
By:
Of course losers will be picked Bob. But if you can't make your bets pay for themselves overall without resorting to Martingales, then you're making bad bets. (Which is exactly what Rob and Cat are saying.)
Look at your last three months. You seemed to have made around £300 from two months. You then lost £1700 the next month. End result? You're down £1400 from three months!! If you're averaging £150 a month, just how many -£1700 months do you need to have before your money runs out? What would it take for you to realise that any type of betting that relies on Martingales is utter drivel? |
|
By:
i know Cat. i learned that after joining the forum last year. hence why people like you can't post bets. traditional betting is for the mugs, right?
Any one-off bet has a large degree of luck. Over ten, twenty, thirty bets, that luck starts to disappear though. Nothing to do with 'traditional betting'. It's to do with having a good long-term strategy. |
|
By:
Hate to harp on about this Bob, but have you considered that maybe betting is just not for you? You seem to have made zero headway with learning what makes a good bet, and appear to have little inclination or ability to come up with any sort of strategy or angle.
Last week Ked and Simon popped up on this thread. I don't know if either of them will have any long-term success, but Simon at least seemed to have something approaching a strategy. And Ked seemed to have instincts (presumably derived from watching lots of football) that he trusted and which had served him well over several months. As far as I could tell, neither of them had been 'given' these strategies or instincts by anyone else. You, though, still seem to be scrabbling around in the dirt and coming up with a handful of pebbles every time. Are you lazy? Do you not just have the right sort of mind? I suspect the truth is a combination of the two. If I was you, I'd just decide that betting wasn't for me, and that I had to move on and try and find something else to fill my time. Because clearly you're only setting yourself up for misery if you continue to make bad bets, and rely on Martingales to make everything okay. |

always gonna be losers picked Bobbin. by all. i didn't say i had a gambling addiction Rob. i said gambling is addictive. can you remind me who i was talking to when i said "i'm here to socialise until payday"... 1. Agreed. 2. Lol, okay then. You said that you placed the £200 on Verdasco because gambling is addictive. Was it an unreasonable inference that you are addicted to gambling? 3. Me. I asked why you were still on the forum despite having no money to bet with and you said to keep abreast of things. |

A mathematical brain that believes that Martingales is the way to go.... Hmmm...
Putting bets in a spreadsheet to tell whether they would have made money without Martingales isn't a sign that you aren't lazy, by the way. It's not like this money doesn't mean a lot to you, after all. You seem very keen on logging all the losses that you rack up - hence, you know exactly how much you've lost at every bookies since Maunsell's Day, for instance. Recording losses isn't, in itself, a very productive way to spend your time. What you should have done, rather than logging all your losing bets last week, was to log the Top Three horses in every single race. Log all of them. Log their prices (win and place). Then record whether each horse won, placed or was unplaced. That's the easy bit. Now, go through every horse on your spreadsheet and record every factor you can come up with. Also, go back to the horse's last race race, and record the distance, class and result there. Search on Google for speed figures, subscribe to one of those services and try and record those. How does the horse compare to other horses in the field? How close together is the field in terms of ability? Then, when you've got columns and columns of factors next to every horse, go through and see which ones won and which ones lost. What factors might have tipped you off as to what made a 'favourite' a false favourite? Then go and do this again the next day. And the next day. And the next day. Gradually you'll start to appreciate what it is that makes one favourite a back and another favourite a lay. That's the sort of work you need to put in if you're going to be successful. Forget this sadistic recounting of your many battle wounds. Start recording the right information instead. Most of the races will be fairly random, but every day you'll see a race here and a race there where there was a clear mispricing. Identify two, three or four of these a week, and bet only on those, and you have a chance of success. |

No, I'm in profit long term. I enjoy days away from it.
Are you planning to ignore any questions that you don't like answering? |

Give up lads you're just going round and round in circles with this clown...

Yep. I know Rop... You'd think a £1400 loss for three months would focus his mind a little though.

Barca, I think he believes some here have an 'Automatic Win' button, and eventually one of them will hand it to him just to be shot of the annoying git! To be fair, there's rather more logic to that then there is to most of Paul's posts!!

erm no more than anyone else on here Rob Are you going to be able to afford to take your girlfriend out for a meal to celebrate the end of her exams? Or is it going to be a Pot Noodle and a wánk for you while she's out with her mates in town? |

Bottom of page 34 Barca. He was just experimenting with trading momentum in the run-up to horse races. He was very keen to stress that he had only been looking at it for a bit, and I wasn't putting forwards Simon as someone who clearly had a winning strategy. I was just trying to point out to Bob an example of an apparent newcomer who appeared to have developed a rather more detailed strategy than anything Bob had come up with in over a year of continual posting on here. (As far as I can see, Bob's strategies go into no more depth than 'lay the favourite in a horse race'. No indication of why a favourite might be a poor price in that particular race. Just lay it because, you know, it's a favourite... ) |

probably the latter at this rate That's a shame. She's probably worked really hard for these exams and is looking forward to some quality time with you afterwards. When does she finish her exams? Is there time to turn things around? |

By:
Bob, I'm quite handy with maths but by no means a genius. When I first discovered martingale I guessed straight away that it couldn't work and within about 20 mins had worked out why. Your continued use of it suggests you have a very unmathematical and unanalytical brain. Unsuitable for profit on here.

That fella who was trading bob did you thank him at all or just harrass him? he responded to your first bombardment and you just went back in for more...
you trade? so how do you decide who to back/lay first? how many times a match will you trade in and out? do you have a normal job? |
