@ Circus Tavern - Welcome home Phil.

Home of strippers and other seedy ongoings.

Before Burness 9/1? and Burnett 9/1? secured their tour cards there was a bit more interest at the top of the betting market*

Taylor is now Evs from 13/8*
Thornton 13/2
Wolfie 8/1
14/1 bar

Lisa 16/1
Painter 25/1 from 40/1 my each way @ 33/1 (in Taylor's half)

Match betting
Thorn 1/9 v Bob Anderson 2/11

These match odds are similar to when the pdc (wdc) started their tournaments with sky.
Randomers were chucked in to make the numbers up.

Bob was and still is one of my fav players from the 90's.
He is 74 years young and while still capable of throwing a decent dart, over the course of the match not a hope in hell of winning 3 sets against Thornton.

Thornton's seasonal average was in the high 80's which includes modus and pdc events.
He is match practice sharp with the highest seasonal average of all active participants.

Dare I say 9-0 legs whitewash? I hope not.

1st round odds - Best of 5 Sets
Thornton 1/9 v Bob Anderson 11/2
Fitton 4/5 v Howson evs
Manley 8/13 v Deta Hedman 13/10 now representing Jamaica having represented England for decades winning everything bar world champs?
O'shea 11/10 v Painter 8/11

Wallace 11/5 v Walton 4/11
Lim 2/5 v Prins 2/1
Warriner 11/5 v Butler 4/11
Terry Jenkins 2/9 v Scho!ten 10/3

Stand out odds Prins @ 2/1 can't see this lasting too long

Hi DnB. Have you read Paul Nickelsons sporting life write up on the tournament? He writes some absolute rubbish. If you going on finals night let me know and i'll buy you a pint. Loved it when the worlds was played at the Circus Tavern.

Could have sworn that bet 365 went Headman 4/5 Manley 11/10 this morning?

Hi BB,

Yes, I read his write up. It may be guff, at times inflamed, but I don't mind as long as he is true to himself. He sure creates a buzz on social media. No information whatsoever about Taylor. Is he confined to a bunker with no electronic source?

If you enjoy darts books then I suggest looking up Shayne Burgess' book. It has everything. You might be fever gripped with the emotional roller coaster ride of a former professional dart player. A must read for all darts fans. I must dig out my electronic copy.

BB, maybe next time as i'm currently in the tropical sun.

How many players can realistically win this?

Taylor -
What Nichoson forgot to mention in his write is Taylor did more than play Barney and Fallon. One match that springs to mind is when he played Aaron Monk during Modus home live league. Wonder why that is? Oh yeah, I beat Aaron in last 32, UK Open qualifier @ Rileys Victoria London. ; -)

Back to the the script...Aaron was actually red hot when on song during the home league and his match against Taylor if I remember correctly went to the deciding leg with both missing match darts before Taylor won. Taylor never took it too seriously and laughed and chatted throughout. He even sang. Got Aaron at it too as the banter flowed.

Thornton -
See opening post.

Wolfie -
Now aged 65 and as consistent as ever. 2x9 darters last year during Modus league for which he played 100's of legs and is match sharp primed. Surely makes the final?

Lisa Ashton -
Played to high levels on Pdc tour. Could be the dark horse @ 22/1

Painter -
kev is relishing the return to the Tavern. Who could forget the epic World Champs Final against Taylor going sudden death! Though not competitively match sharp he's practice hardened during his marathon sessions with Edgar. My e/w bet before the draw came out.

Of the rest, scratch all the other former world champ legends and those from the bdo.

Since becoming the last ever BDO World Champion winner, Wayne Warren has been woeful. Be it in the Grand Slam or Modus league. Utter dog sh!t in fact. Priced only 14/1. Really???

Burnett & Burness were constantly in and around the 90 average mark during Modus league. It was no surprise to see both win pdc tour cards through Q School. Their omissions have definitely weakened the field in terms of genuine contenders.

Realistically it's all about Taylor and does he still have the game over this format? Social media says it's a foregone conclusion, yet how many of those "told you so" goons have put decent money on him becoming Seniors World Champion?

Sport!ng Bet were the first I saw price up the Outrights with Taylor @ 6/4. I was one of those goons and took the price as I thought he'd start odds on. My other bets were Burnett and Burness both 9/1, and Painter 33/1 e/w.

I backed B&B with the Sportsbook for which I cashed out / money back during q school. Taylor shortened to evens with SB.

My outright bets -

Taylor 6/4
Burnett 9/1 money back
Burness 9/1 money back
Painter 33/1 e/w

First round -
Thornton -2.5 Sets @ evens BF

Who are your tips / Predictions?

Nice write up mate. Congrats on beating Monk. Do you play county?

I forgot all about sporting bet as my account was closed with them long ago and they're no longer on oddschecker. 6/4 Taylor wow!

This tournament will make an interesting spectacle.

Nicholson was comparing Gulliver with Ashton. I don't have any stats but surely Ashtons are superior?

Interesting that someone was keen to back Hedman at Evensish for a couple of grand when the market first went up this morning. Do they know something?

My girl Trina is f@cked.

Unfortunately and no suprise to many the alcohol took over. In her pomp she was unstoppable. A class apart as a teenager, seeing her progress through the ranks, getting a call up for England. Now she will do well to win a leg nevermind a set. She's one of those nervous kittens. Hence why no good in comms. So we got Turner instead. Once your hitting the booze hard to play darts it eventually takes its toll. One of the reasons I stopped playing.

The i player not working....unavailable? Guess i'll search for a stream...great timing!

Thornton -2.5 sets 8/13 from evs.

BB, Taylor was best priced 13/8

I see Detas Brother Al most days in the betting shop. They have a Brother who lives in France who for some reason can't place his own bets, he rings Al up and places about 60 win singles every day (sometimes backs the whole field?), takes the poor bugger nearly an hour to write them all out.

These senior legends are giving me flashbacks. Circus Tavern when rammed an absolute bear pit of a venue. Check out Bristow's world champs semi final walk on on youtube. I went once and never again such was the smokey room. Must have been a smokers convention the day I was there as I left the room during the first match and watched it on their tv. 260 miles round trip.

F@ck! My head this morning! Red wine has ruined me. I had 2 gadgets on the go with live streams of PL & Seniors. Plus phone for in-play averages on flashscore. I'm sure Nicholson and Murphy in comms kept me updated on procedures? I used my maths brain when down to a finish. Of the PL, I missed most of it whilst posting b@llocks on here.

Seniors broadcast is getting slaughtered online. Is this a good or bad thing? It's said there's no such thing as bad publicity. The only way is up baby!

Day 2 may give these clowns in charge a chance to sort the many issues out. Then by day 3 all set for finals day and either running smoothly like a rolls royce or stuttering along like Dell boy's three wheeler.

Day 2
Afternoon Session - 1pm - Best of 5 Sets
Les Wallace v John Walton
Paul Lim v Dave Prins
Alan Warriner v Larry Butler
Terry Jenkins v Roland Scholten

Day 2
Evening Session - 7pm Best of 5 Sets
Wayne Warren v Kevin Painter
Martin Adams v Richie Howson
Phil Taylor v Peter Manley
Trina Gulliver v Robert Thornton

Players of note - Butler is still competitive, including 80's+ average in recent Open event. More than enough to see off Warriner, who is likely the least committed of all players with his busy work schedule.

Wallace is twice the size when world champion. Last seen playing in Modus live league a few times and was pretty ropey the first day. Got better as time went on. Walton still active with mid 70's running average in Yorkshire leagues.

Lim, what is left to say? Lived off the 9 dart finish which won him a small fortune. Exells in the soft tip game in Asia and has represented more Countries than any player. His opponent Prins came through the qualifiers and as predicted, shortened from 2/1, into 13/8.

Jenkins also had a stint in the Modus league where average wise he wasn't very good. Scholten always on Dutch tv during darts wearing his latest sweater brazzened with his sponsors.

Painter having played a match on stage is an advantage, yet still available v Warren @ evens. Warren spent the last few years wallowing about his paltry £23K?? winners world champs cheque, although he knew it was reduced and continued to play the event. Did a little bit in Modus league instead of playing more and staying competitive for match sharpness in run up to the Seniors.

Wolfie the Legend of the assumed amateaur side of darts. Not bad going as he has amassed circa half a million £££. To top that, Bobby George got a massive wedge from sponsor Courage. Howson played some good stuff last night. As a former pdc player I expected more. Will be sharper for it. Wolfie, along with his vast experience is a class above.

Taylor will have practiced behind the scenes like no other to get his hands on that glorious trophy. Likely to continue his domination against Manley and steamroller him again.

Last match of the night sees the golden the girl take on Thornton. Huge credit to Trina stepping onto the oche with all her current issues, though no contest. Straight sets win for Thorn who averaged 94.66 (15.88 darts per leg) in his win over Bob Anderson 80.91. How can Trina come close to that? I envisage her with low 70's average at best. Having now seen the odds i'm on and expect it to pay towards my next journey.

Selections
Butler @ 4/11
Painter @ 1/1
Wolfie @ 2/7
Taylor in straight sets @ 8/11
Thornton in straight sets @ 8/11 only just seen the price. Really???

Bet of day 2
Thornton 3-0 @ 8/11 sportsbook

Good luck everyone, i'm off to find a bucket of ice.

I read a Thornton 3-0 win v Trina was initially chalked up 5/6 then changed to 10/11. The best I saw was 8/11. At match time 8/15. Larry Butler - how impressive was he! I missed the boat again with Butler having opened 4/6 to beat Deller into 4/7. Went for a walk to clear my head along the coastal path and missed the Lim v Prins match.

Of the evening matches, I tuned in late and missed Painter's 9-0 whitewash of Wayne Warren. Howson showed the advantage of having played a match on stage and looked much more at ease and was unfortunate. Wolfie was always chasing the game but saved his skin many times with monster checkouts as his class prevailed in the end.

Manley was another having already played a match yet still only managed another high 70's average against Taylor. Taylor's performance was poor, though a win is a win. Ok. He's not played competitively for some time but as the greatest player of all time according to many, this was sub standard. Surely Painter's time to gain revenge?

John Lowe returns to the Tavern. The eldest of all players aged 76 1/2! Like Bob Anderson, will throw some good darts but winning 3 sets against a player who averaged 90+ would be a marvellous achievement. Yes it's John Lowe. But he's nearing 77 years of age.  A 5/2 shot? No chance!

Deller, done nothing of note for years, other than beat me, not once but twice in open events some 30 years ago. I only remember the first occasion as he was a c@nt. He won't be winning any time soon. Come in number 138 your time is up!

Last 16 results:

(76.39) Walton 3-2 Wallace (74.32)
(90.15) Prins 3-1 Lim (84.95)

(81.29) Taylor 3-1 Manley (74.43)
(92.63) Thornton 3-0 Trina Gulliver (74.19)

Day 3 - Afternoon session 1pm
Last 16 - Best of 5 Sets

John Part v John Walton
Keith Deller v Larry Butler
John Lowe v Dave Prins
Lisa Ashton v Terry Jenkins

Evening session 7pm
Quarter finals - Best of 5 Sets

Part/Walton v Ashton/Jenkins
Lowe/Prins v Thornton
Taylor 2/5 v Kevin Painter 11/5
Adams v Deller/Butler

The Saturday schedule seems a bit brutal for some of these old Legends who win in the afternoon. I imagine John Lowe asleep in his rocking chair being wheeled out to return again a few hours later to play in the evening session. So wrong.  The Seniors schedule seems very favourable to Taylor and Wolfie.

2/5 Taylor? Hey?! Priced on previous reputation only. On current Seniors form Painter has been the better player. Taylor, when asked made out to Helen Chamberlain during his post match interview (after getting his grope in) he didn't know how well Painter was playing. He knew alright. Good tactical swerve. The stats don't lie. Both Averages and especially winning Legs are there in print. At best 5/6 each of 2 is nearer the mark. Painter @ 11/5 365 & h!lls for anyone looking to invest. Who are these odds compilers? Many gifts have been handed out the last 2 days. It's just like the UK Open of old with Speedy employees as qualifiers. Will the Taylor of old re-emerge? He needs to. I can't wait to see the Painter growl. Last word goes to Phil - "Get the kettle on and tune in, it's gonna be a cracker."

Latest Outright prices on Sportsbook

Taylor 8/11
Thornton 9/2
Wolfie 6/1
Painter 10/1

Jenkins / Lisa Ashton 20/1
Prins / Butler 33/1
Deller 40/1
Walton / Part 50/1
John Lowe 150/1

Butler was mighty impressive in his opening match.
As he's in the bottom half of the draw i've added him to my outrights @ 33/1 e/w along with Taylor and Painter from the top half.

Another note..
Butler was the inaugural winner of the PDC World Matchplay back in '94.
Could become the inaugural Seniors World Champ too as he's playing just as well 28 years later.

Just don't mention the Matchplay win to Priestley. "He cheated." "I was meditating in my room."

Feck! 9:45am here already! Time to get my flippers on and head to the beach.

Hello DnB, and thank you for that generous introduction. I was pleased to see you back on here.

I watched the play last night, and have to say I found it a profoundly unimpressive sight, and take no pleasure in saying that.

Everyone who wasn't a competitor was obviously trying a bit too hard to promote it, trying to generate an excitement which it just didn't merit. The most embarrassing thing of all was the stage introductions. Dreadful.

John Gwynne would have been a far better choice as MC, demonstrating his famed and fabulous vocal gymnastics where he can vary his voice from Kray Twins Reminiscing East End Hardman to 1965 Marianne Faithful to Gentle Priest In The Confession Box all the way through to Uber-Sqwawking Owl Disturbed by Visiting Ferret, and all in the space of ONE sentence.

Nobody does in better. Remember, this is the man who could do a running commentary of two grannies buying a HAAAAAAAND OF BANAAAAAAAANAS from a ragamuffin in the market, and make it sound like the Run For The Roses, the most exciting two minutes in  sport.

I'd like to see Phil batter them all senseless, but I think he might struggle against my old schoolchum King Muttley tonight. ANYONE bar Rolfie Adams to win it please. Fingers crossed someone at the Wolf Sanctuary will accidentally put them in a van and unleash them inside the venue. That would liven things up nicely.

Will that do?

Kind regards etc
