Who saw that coming? Superb from Anderson.
Pressured Lewis throughout and thoroughly deserved to win.

Well done Ando and his backers but here's the dreaded question:
Will he let Taylor tickle his belly and roll over? Hope not.

Shocking & spiritless performance from Lewis...his inconsistency is bewildering - you just never know IF he's gonna turn up & play, even after the break you'd never bet against it!

Ando was correct when he said it wasnt a great performance.
Many legs were over 15 darts, and he'd get hurt if it continues.

What a terrific matchplay Grin

In all fairness, Lewis never got into rhythm we expect to see, plus the constant Ando pressure. If only he nailed the 120 checkout!

World Matchplay Semi Final - Best of 33 Legs*

Michael Van Gerwen v Simon Whitlock

The Whitlock Positive:
Shown tremendous determination and hit pressure doubles.

Whitlock's all round play and stats are holding up alongside the 3 other semi finalists.
A good start is most imperative and I see no reason why playing against mvg will be any different.

The Whitlock Negative: Bad starts in last two matches - MVG would jump all over it.

In the last two matches Whitlock has trailed 4-0. Although he soon got back into the matches against Barneveld and Wade, doing it against MVG could be too much to claw back as the green machine is a relentless leg on leg power scorer with plenty of 120+ checkouts in the bag. Not forgetting mental frailties.

The Van Gerwen Positive: Relentless leg on leg high scorer - Improving round by round.

MVG's constant leg on leg pressure will test Whitlock to the max. Chisnall pushed him close in the 1/4's but mvg stepped on the gas with a killer burst of legs to hose home.

The Van Gerwen negative: Over confident at times? Still to fire 100%

------------

Conclusion:
A fascinating match up with plenty of 180's and high checkouts on the cards.
It comes down to which Whitlock turns up? If it's the current one we're in for a treat, otherwise a runaway mvg win is most likely. Either way I see mvg's relentless pressure being the difference to wear down Whitlock.

Van Gerwen to win by 4 or 5 legs.

Selection:
Bollocks to not mentioning the averages markets on the forum
Whitlock's 3 dart average - OVER 95.5 @ 11/13 bwin All aboard!!!!!

========================================================

Gary Anderson v Phil Taylor

The Anderson Positive - High scoring and superb double stats.

Ando has been impressive in his 3 matches thus far with constant high scoring and superb double stats. In those matches he's had one major factor in his favour - All of his opponents were fast players - Jamie Caven, Stephen Bunting, and Adrian Lewis. If Anderson knuckles down and plays his own game, and ignores Taylor's slow play tactics he has a great chance of winning.

The Anderson Negative - Phil Taylor and the pace of the game.

This will be a real acid test for Ando as Taylor will pull every trick in the book to win.
He will dictate the pace of the game and do everything to get in Anderson's head who has a tendency to smile a lot when playing Taylor, and more often than not rolls over to get his belly tickled by the master dartsman.

The Taylor Positive - Won the last six Matchplays and constant 100+ averages.

When it looks like Taylor is playing under par his average will still hover around the 100 mark.
He knows how to win the big matches and his all round game has been good, but not great.
Could do a job on Anderson with his mind games alone.

The Taylor Negative - Age? Inconsistent at times and the power scoring of Anderson.

Taylor will be put under pressure from the off and this is where he is most vulnerable.
He's looked average in the first session of his matches and Ando could jump all over it.
I'm far from convinced Taylor has turned the corner and is back to his brilliant best.

Conclusion:
The key to the match is Anderson getting off to a flyer and keeping the pressure up and forcing Taylor to make mistakes. Once Taylor gets on top he will bully Anderson and control the pace of match. and most likely pull away. However, if Anderson franks his tourney form he could well nick it. A fascinating match up. Tough one to call. Hoping both play to their best and take it all the way.

Selection:
Anderson v Taylor Match 180's. (Sly's 4/7 is long gone).
ANDERSON to get the MOST 180's @ 8/15 boyles  3pts

===================================

*Must win by 2 clear legs. If still level after 38 legs (19-19), then the 39th leg becomes a "Sudden Death" Leg.
The player who threw first in the first leg throws first in the decider.

I've had two main bets (as posted) plus a host of smaller ones.
Will also be betting in play and hoping to cream a bit more from the bookies.

MVG to beat Whitlock (my outright bet bias) and Whitlock to cover his 3 dart average.
Ando to tear into Taylor and hammer the lipstick.

Good luck Everyone - Here's to a wild saturday night of drinking and watching the arrers!!!

Looking forward to tonight as well. I'm cooking some mackerel on the bbq that I caught earlier so I'll need to keep popping back in. My only bet is on MVG albeit he's a bit short. Might try and get some bets in play but it might be difficult as the missus wants me to spend some time with her this evening. Will wangle something though as I'm going to miss the final as we're going to see Tom Jones.............so I'm toldSadSadSadSad
